Saed is also one of the people who walks visitors through Aida, a camp overshadowed by the Apartheid Wall and Israeli military watchtowers.

We visited Aida with Saed. While he was showing us the camp, the Israeli army fired tear gas and children scattered through its streets. Afterwards, we shared maqluba in his family home, cooked by his mother.

Fundado em 1968, o Aida Youth Centre trabalha com as crianças e jovens do campo através da arte, cinema, fotografia, música e programas de verão, ao mesmo tempo que defende os direitos dos refugiados palestinianos. Saed é também uma das pessoas que acompanha visitantes pelo Aida, um campo ensombrado pelo Muro do Apartheid e pelas torres de vigilância militar israelitas.

Margarida David Cardoso | The Aid Industry: How NGOs and Governments Sustain the Occupation
In the sixth episode of YALLA, we speak with Margarida David Cardoso, a journalist from Fumaça, responsible for the report "Aid Industry in Palestine" which focuses on what Palestinian civil society looked like before the Oslo Agreements, what the process of "NGOzation" means in Palestine, who is international aid really serving, and whether it could be perpetuating the occupation, instead of fighting it.

This investigation included more than 40 interviews, 45 hours of recording and four trips to Lebanon and Palestine between 2022 and 2024. In the sixth episode of YALLA, we speak with Margarida David Cardoso, a journalist from Fumaça, responsible for the report "Aid Industry in Palestine" which focuses on what Palestinian civil society looked like before the Oslo Agreements, what the process of "NGOzation" means in Palestine, who is international aid really serving, and whether it could be perpetuating the occupation, instead of fighting it.

This investigation included more than 40 interviews, 45 hours of recording and four trips to Lebanon and Palestine between 2022 and 2024. Raul Manarte | Collective Trauma and the Psychological Destruction of Gaza
In the fourth episode of YALLA, we talk with Raul Manarte, a psychologist, musician, and photographer with two decades of experience in Portugal’s National Health Service and in humanitarian contexts. Since 2016, he has worked on missions with Doctors Without Borders and the Boat Refugee Foundation, closely witnessing the psychological impact of war in Palestine.

Drawing from his work in Gaza, Raul speaks about mental health in a besieged territory, collective trauma, and the systematic destruction of basic living conditions. Balancing clinical insight and human testimony, he reflects on hunger as a weapon of war, the limits of resilience, and the role of art as resistance and care.

In this conversation, we move between psychology, politics, and solidarity — asking what it means to care amidst genocide, and how to keep seeing humanity where everything tries to erase it.

Raul Manarte | Collective Trauma and the Psychological Destruction of Gaza
In the fourth episode of YALLA, we talk with Raul Manarte, a psychologist, musician, and photographer with two decades of experience in Portugal’s National Health Service and in humanitarian contexts. Since 2016, he has worked on missions with Doctors Without Borders and the Boat Refugee Foundation, closely witnessing the psychological impact of war in Palestine.

Drawing from his work in Gaza, Raul speaks about mental health in a besieged territory, collective trauma, and the systematic destruction of basic living conditions. Balancing clinical insight and human testimony, he reflects on hunger as a weapon of war, the limits of resilience, and the role of art as resistance and care.

In this conversation, we move between psychology, politics, and solidarity — asking what it means to care amidst genocide, and how to keep seeing humanity where everything tries to erase it.

It begins with the Lisbon Building - a structure named after a distant city, built by her father-in-law after a visit to Lisbon, and later destroyed by Israeli soldiers who filmed themselves laughing as they blew it up and posted the video online - and unfolds through the genocide broadcast live from October 2023 onwards.

Amani lost her mother, father, sister, and brother. She carries the memory of everything Israel tried to erase: the house, the trees, the streets, the names. The words her father left her serve as a compass: “Your son must know the truth before everything becomes false.”

In this conversation, we talk about life under blockade and exile, about intimate and collective grief, about how occupation turns every daily gesture into an act of resistance - and about the courage to keep giving when everything has been taken away. Because as long as someone tells the story, the truth still breathes.

In the second episode of YALLA, we talk with Jonathan Benebgui, an anti-Zionist Jew and one of the founding voices of the collective Jews for Peace and Justice in Portugal and understand how Israel became an anti-semetic project.

His story begins in Madrid, in a home where “being Jewish” was taught as synonymous with “being Israeli.” His encounter with Palestine in 2019 shattered that dogma: in the place where he had been told he would be hated, he was met with hospitality, questions, and open arms. The asymmetry between what he experienced and what he had been told created a political rupture and a new way of inhabiting his Jewish identity.

In this conversation, we talk about Zionism and its internal fractures, hospitality as resistance, the mobilization of Jews in the diaspora against the genocide, and how separating Judaism from the State of Israel is an act of freedom, for both Palestinians and Jews.

Jonatan Benebgui | Anti-Zionist Jews Against Apartheid

In the second episode of YALLA, we talk with Jonathan Benebgui, an anti-Zionist Jew and one of the founding voices of the collective Jews for Peace and Justice in Portugal and understand how Israel became an anti-semetic project.

His story begins in Madrid, in a home where “being Jewish” was taught as synonymous with “being Israeli.” His encounter with Palestine in 2019 shattered that dogma: in the place where he had been told he would be hated, he was met with hospitality, questions, and open arms. The asymmetry between what he experienced and what he had been told created a political rupture and a new way of inhabiting his Jewish identity.

In this conversation, we talk about Zionism and its internal fractures, hospitality as resistance, the mobilization of Jews in the diaspora against the genocide, and how separating Judaism from the State of Israel is an act of freedom, for both Palestinians and Jews.

An author, researcher, translator, and independent curator, Shahd has dedicated herself to reflecting, writing, and challenging dominant narratives about Palestine and exile.

Her writing intersects memory, identity, and the struggle for freedom, and her activism addresses anti-Zionist feminism, art as a tool of resistance, and the impact of colonialism on the Palestinian experience.

In this conversation, we discuss the land of her grandparents, erased from the map, "neutrality" as a tool of occupation, feminism as resistance and rupture, and poetry as an archive of a people who refuses to disappear.
