As more people accept the practice of physician-assisted death, Christians must decide whether to embrace or oppose it. Is it ethical for physicians to assist patients in hastening their own death? Should Christians who are facing death accept the offer of an assisted death?

In How Should We then Die?, physician Ewan Goligher draws from general revelation and Scripture to persuade and equip Christians to oppose physician-assisted death. Euthanasia presumes what it is like to be dead. But for Christians, death is not the end. Christ Jesus has destroyed death and brought life and immortality through the gospel.

Dr. Yuille serves as Professor of Church History and Spiritual Formation in the School of Theology. Prior to his service at Southwestern, Dr. Yuille was the Vice President of Academics and Academic Dean of College at Heritage Baptist College and Seminary in Cambridge, Ontario. Additionally, he was Associate Professor of Biblical Spirituality at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Yuille has also served in a variety of church ministry roles, most recently as the pastor of Grace Community Church (SBC) in Glen Rose, TX.

Dr. Yuille is the author and editor of numerous books and book chapters on the Puritan theologians William Perkins, George Swinnock, and John Flavel. He has published journal articles in Themelios, Puritan Reformed Journal, and the Journal of Spiritual Formation and Soul Care. He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors.

He is married Alison and they have two daughters Laura and Emma.

Dr. Solomon is the Executive Director of the Biblical Counseling Coalition. His passion for biblical counseling was sparked in 1999 during his first biblical counseling course at The Master’s College (now University), where he went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies. Curtis has developed and applied his passion for biblical counseling in church, parachurch, and academic contexts. He holds several advanced degrees from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, including a Master of Divinity, Master of Theology, and Doctor of Philosophy. Curtis is an Air Force veteran and former employee of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. His military background inspired his doctoral research on Post Traumatic Stress. Curtis is certified with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC) and serves as Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator of Biblical Counseling at Boyce College. He is the author of Redeem Your Marriage: Hope for Husbands Who Have Hurt through Pornography and I Have PTSD: Reorienting After Trauma. He and his wife, Jenny, were married in 2003 and have two delightful sons.

Here are some examples of what we can do for others based on what I’d like someone to do for me (get specific)
1 Knowing Jesus as I do, would I want someone to tell me about Jesus if I didn’t know him already? Yes! But how? Personally, caringly, earnestly, gently, and knowingly. Though the unbeliever may not “want” to hear about Jesus. 2 If I were in a place and didn’t know anyone (new or otherwise), what would I want someone to do for me? Commit to meeting one new person per month
3 Ask someone for coffee or dinner who you think may be too busy to accept
4 Give or volunteer to serve in our mercy min or a community service of mercy
5 Start a life group and invite those who don’t have one
6 Ask someone to read the Bible with you, Visit someone who is shut in or sick
7 Pray with people in the moment while they are with you
8 Make a new friend with someone NOT in your regular social circle
9 When you hear of tragedy in someone’s life, join them and weep with them
10 When you see someone getting angry with someone, intervene
11 Rather than minimizing an offense, have an awkward conversation to confess your sin
12 Offer regular meals, regular prayers, regular texts, emails and phone calls, even hand written notes and cards or just stopping by to visit someone you’ve met
13 See a need and meet it. If it’s obvious, do something, love covers a multitude of sin

Yet despite the colossal failures of the seed of Abraham, Yahweh’s faithfulness to raise up one born of a woman to crush the head of the serpent is invincible, and this is the best of God that we ache for when the complete disaster of partial obedience exposes us to the worst of people.
