Every job follows the same nine steps.

First comes a risk assessment. Then the area around the house is protected, and the access is set up. Depending on the roof, that can mean a cherry picker, an access tower or scaffolding. The team holds IPAF and PASMA training, which covers that kind of equipment.

Next, the downpipes are blocked, so loose moss can't wash down into the drains. The moss is then scraped off by hand, working from the ridge down to the gutters. That includes old roofs with delicate clay tiles; they have worked on roofs dating back to the eighteen hundreds.

Once the roof is clear, the loose debris is blown off, the gutters are cleared, and everything at ground level is tidied away.

The last step is the biocide. The Roof Moss Cleaners calls it a biocide treatment, sometimes known as a softwash. It goes on after the clean, and it carries the three-year moss-free guarantee.

A typical house takes one day. The biggest houses they have worked on have taken six or seven days.

If the gutters need it, they can be cleaned at the same time. They're emptied by industrial vacuum and checked with a camera, with a thirty-day guarantee against blockages. Fascias and soffits can be cleaned on the same visit.

In a later episode, Gareth and Anthony's customers describe the results in their own words.

The name dates back to 2013, when the business's original founder started it. Gareth and Anthony worked for the founder, and for over a decade they cleaned roofs every day of the working week, mostly across Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

That work covered every kind of roof. They have cleaned more than five thousand, from modern homes to roofs dating back to the eighteen hundreds. One long-running job was a boarding school in Berkshire, where they cleaned the roofs and gutters over several years, working from a cherry picker and an access tower, with no ladders on site, including on its historic clay roofs.

In 2026 they set up their own limited company, G and A Property Services, to carry on The Roof Moss Cleaners. In their own words, they were pleased to have started the new company, and to build on the brand they had worked hard to build over many years.

The way the work is shared hasn't changed much. The original founder still takes the first enquiries. Gareth and Anthony do the jobs, and they deal with each customer directly for the aftercare.

Each of them now has thirteen years in the trade.

The business is run by Gareth Webb and Anthony Holt, the two directors of G and A Property Services Limited, the company they set up in 2026 to carry on The Roof Moss Cleaners name. Each of them has thirteen years in the trade.

Before that, both men worked for the business's original founder for more than ten years, cleaning roofs every day of the working week. Between them they have now cleaned more than five thousand roofs, including roofs dating back to the eighteen hundreds and the rooftops of a boarding school in Berkshire.

The main work is roof moss removal. The moss is scraped off by hand, and the roof is then given a biocide treatment, sometimes called a softwash, which comes with a three-year moss-free guarantee. They also steam clean roofs, take on commercial roofs, and carry out minor roof repairs. When they clean a roof, they can clear the gutters and clean the fascias and soffits at the same time. Gutters are emptied by industrial vacuum and checked with a camera, with a thirty-day guarantee against blockages.

A typical house takes one day. The largest houses they have cleaned took six or seven.

Most of their work is in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, and they travel further across the South when a job calls for it.

Gareth and Anthony carry out the jobs themselves, and they look after customers directly once the work is finished.

In the next episodes, you'll hear how they took on the business, and how a roof is cleaned, step by step.
