ABOUT JENA

Jena Castro-Casbon, MS CCC-SLP is a private practice consultant, mentor, author, speaker and founder of the Independent Clinician, an online education company that specializes in helping SLPs and OTs start, grow, and scale successful private practices. 

Team Independent Clinician is on a mission to help at least a thousand SLPs and OTs start private practices each year because more practices means more services for the children and adults who need them. 

She is the creator of the Start Your Private Practice, Grow Your Private Practice, and Scale Your Private Practice programs, which offer step-by-step information and processes and ongoing support from a team of mentors. When Jena was first getting started, there were no online education programs specifically for SLP and OTs going into private practice, so she created the programs she wished she had.

ABOUT CHELSEA: 

Chelsea House is a universal designer, digital creator, and Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC). She is also a Black, neurodivergent, queer, Disabled femme who lives with largely non-apparent, chronic disabilities. Despite living with disabilities since birth, Chelsea didn’t begin identifying as Disabled until college, and only began identifying as Disabled with Pride in the past 3 years. After 5+ years redesigning service experiences for federal and state government agencies and Fortune 500 companies, Chelsea is repurposing her skills and Disability experiences to create environments that are inclusive of Black Disabled Femmes like her. In 2022, Chelsea founded her business, Ability Design House, an access-centered consulting and creative services agency working with Black and Brown communities to reimagine inclusive marketing and community experiences. The same year, Chelsea also launched the Black Disabled Femme Community - a connection space uplifting joy, ease and advancement of Black Femmes who are D/disabled or living with disabilities and chronic health conditions.

ABOUT AKILAH

Akilah English is a deaf and hard of hearing specialist for the District of Columbia Public Schools in Washington, D.C. With more than 15 years of experience, she has taught at elementary and middle schools in the District, Maryland, and Massachusetts. She earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Gallaudet University and master's degree in Deaf Education from McDaniel College.Akilah is an active member of the National Black Deaf Advocates and a board member for Maryland School for the Deaf. She has a passion for education that is centered in social justice. Akilah has presented workshops and training on social justice to Deaf educators at both state and national level. She is a committed change advocate, which is reflected in her work with numerous boards and organizations focusing on education and Black Deaf communities. Akilah is currently attending the University of Maryland-College Park where she is pursuing a PhD inTeaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership with a specialty in Minority and Urban Education.

ABOUT GERMAINE

Germaine Graham is the founder and CEO of Deafinitely Communicating, a private speech language pathology practice established with a mission to educate families of Deaf and Hard of Hearing children about the importance of early language acquisition while simultaneously providing skilled therapy services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing children/youth. Germaine is passionate about building the language and communication skills of Deaf children from home to community as early as possible, using American Sign Language.
