Most people don’t peel the curtain back to share the messy progress, we only see the sexy, shiny outcome and frankly, I’m over it. It’s not real life.

Hi! I’m Adrienne Smith, the queen and the host of Messy Progress. I am a wellness coach, world record holder, mother, entrepreneur, business owner, wife, friend, sister, Messy Progress podcast host, trip sitter and a whole lot of other labels on any given day depending on who you are asking, but most of all, I’m human. Every Thursday I’ll shine a light on what lives behind the highlight reel and dive into how making a mess leads to success.

I constantly find myself asking questions like, “Is this really what life is suppose to look like?” “Is this it?” “Is there more?” I live for reigniting your passion and supporting you in getting unstuck. If you crave inspiration and need a swift kick in the pants - I’ve got you. We’re going to go from indecisive to determined, from confined to full on liberated through shockingly relatable conversations, eye-opening interviews and stories.

You will get tips and tools necessary to take the next right steps towards living into your unwavering confidence in the boardroom, the bedroom and in all of your relationships - especially the one with yourself.

It’s time to get messy, uncage ourselves and set ourselves free. Welcome to messy progress.

In this episode we get some sage advice from entrepreneur, life-long open water swimmer and coach, Gerry Rodrigues. Gerry grew up in the country of Trinidad where work ethic trumped sunbathing on the beach. That ethos landed him at the start line of open water swim races at the young age of 12, where he completed in a 3-mile open water swim (fast as hell), and swam 10,000 meters in two hours that year. And later topped it off by graduating with a Business Degree from Pepperdine. Gerry is a legend in the sport of swimming and triathlon, not only in Southern California where he birthed the famous Tower 26 open water swim and triathlon training program, but also globally with customers in 31 countries, and a 100+ episode podcast surpassing two million downloads. He co-founded WOWSA (World Open Water Swimming Association), has both owned and published several swimming magazines, is the author of the book “Triathlon Swimming” and has received the well-deserved honor of: U.S. Masters Swimming coach-of-the-year. Gerry and his wife, Elizabeth, own the Santa Barbara Triathlon & Beach festival. Grandpa Gerry, as my daughter calls him, is also a dad to two amazing young adults, is a mentor to many athletes and coaches, including my husband and has become a close friend of our family. In this episode you will learn the magic of:

Determining your value in the marketplace
Establishing your worth as a business owner
Facing your fears in open water
Creating a relationship with your staff
Avoiding turnover and attrition in any business
Setting up group workouts so everyone wins
Creating a community through consistency

Website: https://www.tower26.com
Podcast: https://www.tower26.com/podcasts/
Book: Triathlon Swimming

--

Links & resources:

Follow along for more information about me and the podcast on Instagram: @theadriennesmith

Check out the Yoga Studio: Power of Your Om

Learn more about my coaching programs and offerings: Aligned Living Now

This Podcast is brought to you by Upstarter Podcast Network

Being on a team is a powerful experience that creates a connection that transcends our understanding. In this episode with my rowing teammate, Brooke Downes, we share about our experience on a team together, our biggest fears, how we learned to work together, how we listened to each other in big and small ways and how that listening created trust so that when and if our life was going to be on the line at some point, we had each other’s backs.

About Brooke Downes: Brooke a 26 year old New Jersey native who goes wherever rowing takes her, whether that’s across the country or across an ocean. She’s an Olympic hopeful, and coastal rower, who is fueled by Dunkin iced coffee and Taylor Swift. Brooke is a full time athlete but when she’s not training she’s working with clients all over the country to develop key leadership skills with Latitude35. Brooke’s curious and adventurous lifestyle has taken her to great heights and her goal is to continue to lead a life fueled by what makes her energized and happy even if it’s unconventional. You can find Brooke on Instagram @_brookedownes

<itunes:summary>Being in the work of personal development takes practice. That moment it starts is a call for us to wake up everywhere in our life. It doesn’t just happen like that. And if it does, it’s usually short lived. It’s a process and a practice of peeling back the layers of ourselves. We begin to expose our blindspots - it can happen publicly or privately. But when you say yes to personal development, it will be revealed. The work doesn’t end there. We keep living and facing the world while also having a level of awareness that allows us to separate how we used to live from how we want to live. Patty Ivey shares her heartfelt wisdom in our conversation. Patty’s openness and relatability is a breath of fresh air and her love for personal development is felt through the sound waves of this conversation. Patty Ivey is the founder of DownDog Yoga in Washington D.C. Above all things, Patty is honest and a woman of integrity. She is a generous listener, empath, leader and a stand for everyone that wants to personally develop. I’m grateful and honored to call her my friend. She has an incredible Leadership program beginning March 6th for yoga teachers. She shares about it in our conversation and you can find out more by following her on instagram at @sweetensweaty </itunes:summary>

In today’s episode, I’m talking with Lieutenant Colonel Ed Arntson of the United States Army. His career in the army began 19 years ago and has included 7 deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea and the U.S. Border all while being married to his wife of 17 years and raising two kids who are now 11 and 9. I wanted to have this conversation with Ed because our lives are so different and I wanted to know more about what it’s like to be in his shoes of service. What I got hit with during this conversation was not only the incredible path that he is on, my appreciation for his service to our country but how shared history connects us on a level beyond explanation and understanding. We don’t know anything about the day to day woes that we both have but curiosity opens the door to connection and compassion. I hope this conversation brings joy to your heart, can tap into the relatability that we all share even if we are in different jobs. And lastly, that you take a moment to pause and appreciate those in your life who have left an imprint on you being the person you are today.
