Welcome to the Mayerzine!

This week I included another story which featured war with Russia in the form of a post-WW3 story with an interesting twist ending. While I didn't mean it to be timely or a commentary, one cannot escape the larger picture. Everything we do is in the context of current events, and I'd be a hypocrite to say otherwise, considering how I try to contextualize the stories I give you and point out the social mores of the time that would be inappropriate (to say the least) today.

I've personally made friends and had dealings and acquaintances with Russian peoples, so I've been exposed to the larger Russian culture. My heart breaks for what's happening. The Mayerzine stands with the people of Ukraine, but there's realistically nothing we can do to put words into actions (and if you have suggestions beyond donating to causes, I'm all ears). My heart also breaks for the people of Russia because I know that this is also taking a heavy toll on that country and its everyday Russian.

I try to keep the Mayerzine apolitical, and I didn't mean for this week's stories to coincide so, but when you choose a story like Bear Trap to anchor the month, it kind of dictates what else you program, even if subconsciously.

That said, we still have hundreds of stories to go through and catalogue, so if anyone wants to help out, feel free to sound off in the Patreon or email Mayerzine@chrismayervoiceover.com.

Episode Contents:

2:03 - The Answer, by H. Beam Piper

28:28 - Bear Trap, by Alan E. Nourse, part 3

All fiction is in the public domain. This podcast is copyright 2021-2022 by Christopher James Mayer. All music is licensed royalty-free from storyblocks.com.

If you enjoyed this episode, please consider supporting us by joining our Patreon at http://www.patreon.com/Mayerzine

Thanks for listening, and I'll catch you next week!
