Dade Phelan is avoiding all media appearances, and issue one op-ed in the local newspaper. Other than Andrew Murr, Jeff Leach and Jared Patterson, the rest of his cardinals are staying silent on the matter. Dustin Burrows, Dennos Bonnen and Crag Goldman are all keeping their heads down after threatening members to vote for impeachment, or suffer the wrath of House leadership.

Not only did they do that, but the entire trial revealed just how much of a sham this impeachment was. As a result, Dan Patrick came out and gave one of the most consequential speeches in Texas history.

I also want to remind you of the fact that God is good. This is something I’ve heard a lot this weekend, but it wasn’t in the context that I necessarily agree with. So I spent a little time discussing that today.

Andrew Murr, Jared Patterson and Dade Phelan are asking their fellow Republicans to double down in support of this impeachment. They are asking the members to “cut themselves up”, a term I explain to our listeners today.

Back in may, Andrew Murr, Ann Johnson and the leadership in the Texas House promised that Ken Paxton was a felon. That he was a criminal. They promised that even though they didn’t produce any evidence, or cross examine any witnesses, that the facts and the law would be determined by the Senate, with the evidence produced at the trial.

Well, we are not more than halfway through the trial, and the Texas House has not produced evidence.

Also, the Defend Texas Liberty PAC has released its monthly statewide GOP voter poll and there are some remarkable findings this month. Donald Trump has experienced a post debate bump, and voters are almost unanimous in their opposition of Jacey Jetton’s bill to give taxpayer money to mental health facilities that use transgedner ideology in their treatment with children.

If you’re wondering just how frustrated I am with the liberal alliance between Republicans and Democrats in the Texas House of Representatives, then you’ll have to listen to the song I wrote.

Maybe the fact that I wrote a song is evidence of how bad it has gotten.

Watching Republicans like Briscoe Cain act like they are conservative and file bills just so Dade Phelan can kill them is beyond disappointing. Then he goes around and tells the grassroots that a vote to impeach Ken Paxton is not a vote to convict but a vote to send it to trial, just to turn around and join the prosecution team.

Did conservatives get some good things out of this session? Absolutely. We fought like heck to get them. But dozens of conservative bills were killed at the hands of Republican leaders who give Democrats the power to kill many conservative policies.

We took a couple of things across the finish line, a number of conservative policies were killed, and a very dangerous and corrupt precedent was set with the impeachment of Ken Paxton.

Welcome to the Luke Macias Show sine die is upon us, meaning the end of the legislative session. So much has still been left undone and a special session is guaranteed to occur, we did get a couple of key victories across the finish line at the very end and then Dade Phelan decided to set a very dangerous precedent with the impeachment of Ken Paxton. And we’re going to talk about that, as well as policy victories and things that are left undone that are likely to be debated in a special session. All that today. Let’s get to the show.

So let’s start on a positive note. I talked to you about Senate Bill 17. A couple of weeks ago, this is the DEI bill that passed the Senate very strong ban on dei hiring practices policies. At our university level, it also gets rid of the DEI offices. These are hundreds of full time employees whose job it is to literally spread more Marxism throughout our universities. So Senator Brandon Creighton passed a very strong bill, one of the strongest in the nation out of the Texas Senate and went to the house got completely gutted in committee and then came to the floor and then on the floor, the house conservatives put back in language that strengthened it to the point of where it looked more like what the Senate had passed against the will of House leadership. But then leadership tacked on a little gift to the Democrats at the end. Not a surprise for those of us who are used to watching House leadership operate. But what did it do? It basically said that employees, all these di employees, the worst of the worst on our college campuses, of which by the way, they have a lot of bad employees, but the worst of the worst need to be offered a job to continue to work at our colleges. Well, the Senate went to conference after a whole lot of conservatives came out Scott yener, who’s a leading voice who we’ve interviewed on this program before came out. Chris Ruffo came out who’s probably the leading dei voice and said the Texas House put unforgivable language in this bill. I can’t remember the exact words he used. But he basically said this is unacceptable. It cannot stand the Senate has to fight to change this. And they went to conference and they were able to significantly watered down the compromised Democrat gift of an amendment that House leadership gave. So yet again, the Senate comes to kind of our rescue, giving us a last minute victory. Also, the conference committees that met agreed upon language on Senate Bill 12, which is a ban on the sexual performances in the midst of shelter. This is also yet another big victory for Republicans that they can bank as a victory that happened because conservative grassroots Texans stood up and said, You are not allowed to kill these key conservative policies and the Texas House was forced to take action, even though they dragged their feet for four months. We got it across the finish line, huge victory. There are a number of other key victories. hB 900 was a victory that we got out again, the Texas Senate took the one of the few things that the House passed first, and actually got it across. I don’t even know if they passed it first. Angela Paxson did pass a bill over even before that, but they took up Jared Patterson’s legislation and moved it through the process and got it across the finish line. So there were a couple of very key victories here in the final moments of the session. And then what what surprised a whole lot of people including almost the entire legislature, it didn’t surprise House leadership, meaning Dade feeling maybe 678 other state representatives, but other than them. The rest of the state of Texas did not intend for the legislature to debate the impeachment of Attorney General Ken Paxton. This set a very dangerous precedent. It is very concerning. I’m not actually going to talk about it a ton, because we’re actually going to close out today’s show with Representative John Smithies speech. Now many representatives spoke out against this representative Travis Clardy, who’s actually one of the more liberal Republicans in the legislature, Representative Harold Dutton, who’s actually the second most senior Democrat voted present not voting, and got up and clearly articulated a lot of concerns with this entire process. Representatives Brian Harrison, Matt Schaefer, Steve Toth, Tony Tinder hold all got up and shared massive concerns with this process. Nate Schatz line asked a number of questions. So we could fill up this entire program with all that was said and much was said that was very beneficial for Texans to be aware of. If you want to go to my Twitter, you can To watch or listen to all the speeches that were given, I’ve posted I think all almost all of them. Mike Schofield is a representative from Houston, who got up and gave a very eloquent articulation of why this impeachment was a problem. But I’ll explain at the end, why I selected representative Smithies speech for something that you should hear. I went up to the Capitol during this impeachment proceeding on Saturday. And I will tell you, I had basically set this expectation with my wife and my kids, I’ve been gone three to four to five days a week for the last almost a month and a half, it feels like in this last part of session for two months, and I had told them, hey, the good news is that last week of session, once we’re kind of towards the end of the week, I get to come home and that weekend, it’ll be slow. And we’ll get to spend time together, and it’s going to be a great, great deal. But that was not the case. So I had to go up to the capitol and be there. Honestly, it was historic. We have only ever impeached a state official in Texas, a statewide official once since 1875. Like that is crazy. Remarkable. Astonishing. And again, I think representative smithy will do an even better job than I would be able to to explain the massive concerns and why 23 Republicans courageously stood up and said, We’re not going along with this charade. We’re not going along with this sham of an impeachment. We are not going to, as representative Harrison said the impeachment process should be unimpeachable itself. And this was not that. I will let representative smithy enlighten y’all even further on that. But it what it is worth saying that this has, I think, caused more energy to be infused into conservative Texans than I have seen maybe since the Tea Party wave in 2010. I’ve never seen this many conservative activist saying I am done with the Texas legislature’s gains. They killed a ban on critical race theory. They messed around with property tax relief, they killed legislation that would help D transitioners. actually sue these people that have massively abused their bodies. They killed legislation that would ban China from being able to purchase Texas Land, they killed a ban on COVID vaccine mandates. So you can still in Texas get fired for not getting fouled cheese concoction, that he basically said every single one of you need to comply and get in line and then he use these businesses as enforcement mechanisms to say you get this shot or you can’t feed your family. The Texas Senate said you shouldn’t be able to do that the Texas House sat on that legislation. Representative click played games with that legislation. Representative burrows played games of that legislation. It was a coordinated effort. And we remember I’ve done episodes on this where Stephanie click Dustin burrows and Dadeville and they teamed up last time to kill the ban on gender modification. And this year, they teamed up to kill the venom COVID vaccine mandat...

Nicki and I honestly agree on almost everything outside of school choice, and I wanted to give a platform to her opinion and allow Texans to hear both sides express their views.

The state is currently projected to have a $27 billion surplus.

Several months ago, Morgan Meyer dropped a hint in his Ways and Means Committee insinuating that the Texas House may be considering as little as $4 billion in relief. Dan Patrick followed with a stronger position, but it was still a plan that amounted to a little over $7 billion.

Well, Gov. Abbott said last week that all $27 billion belongs to the taxpayers and at least half of it will be given back this session. While some see the obvious negative of Abbott planning on keeping half of the extra money, it is worth noting that the $13.5 billion is more than has been considered by GOP leaders. Dan Patrick quickly followed this by saying he thought the relief package would amount to even more than $13.5 billion when it’s all said and done.

Dan Patrick has become the top target of a big RINO; Judge Whitely’s power is dwindling, and he’s targeting Dan Patrick for a particular reason.

These voters could have a massive impact on the next election.

This week, the Defend Texas Liberty PAC released a new poll of these voters. The data from the poll shows these voters are VERY conservative and plan on voting Republican by a 20 percent margin.

We just had a drag queen show with children present in Roanoke, Texas. This is a city with a Republican sheriff, district attorney, congressman, state senator, and state representative.

Lastly, it was very encouraging to see Pastor Ed Newton speak boldly on gender and sexuality from the pulpit. If you know of any bold pastors in Texas, I would love to meet them. We need to start building up a coalition of pastors willing to stand in the gap, and seeing the pastor of the largest church in San Antonio speak up is very encouraging.

This is something they know a little about, since they are professional indoctrinators. We need to get China out of Texas, and today’s conversation will bring some major issues to light so Texans can get to work.

Today we are joined by Ken Cuccinelli who lays out exactly why we need a border invasion officially declared and illegals then returned to Mexico. We can do this as a state because the founders specified when such actions could be taken and empowered states to repel invasions when the federal government was not doing so.

This is something conservatives have been calling for over the last year. We have talked about it numerous times on this podcast and over the last several months you’ve seen the rhetoric ratcheting up with Dan Patrick and Ken Paxton both saying Texas is being invaded in public media appearances.

But the actions being taken by Texas are still glorified catch and release prorgrams, and Abbott has mentioned specific concerns over calling an “invasion”. Ken, through his work with Center for Renewing America, has recently published a paper directly refuting Abbott’s concerns.

The House GOP Caucus’ long-standing rule to “privately criticize and publicly praise” is being set aside in this rare occasion, as they move to censure Steve Toth, Jeff Cason, and Ben Leman. These men are all deemed guilty by the ruling elite for opposing their colleagues’ re-election campaigns.

It’s important to remember that Dustin Burrows targeted not one but 10 of his fellow colleagues last cycle and was NEVER punished for his actions (probably because they aligned with the desires of the ruling elite).

Why is this happening, and why does it matter to Texans?

This week, we discuss those very questions.

John Cornyn’s poll numbers are tanking. He’s now the least popular statewide politician in Texas due to his betrayal of GOP principles.

Lastly, I break down changes the Texas Freedom Caucus needs to consider to reduce how often the Austin establishment uses FC members to shield themselves from grassroots Texans.

It’s important to recognize that conservatives still work with the Freedom Caucus to advance GOP policies, and we recently worked alongside Mayes Middleton to get more conservatives elected to the Texas House against the preferred candidates of Dade Phelan and Greg Abbott.

There are some very concrete examples of the Austin establishment weaponizing Freedom Caucus members against conservatives, and the confusion caused by these instances makes unity harder to achieve as we head into 2023. Today’s podcast covers numerous reforms that would be good to consider.

While this week’s message is coming to you a day after independence day, it was recorded on the 4th and the message is still clear. We should be very grateful for the sacrifices made by our founders. We should also be grateful that most of the politicians that are serving today were not among the founders. God only knows where we would be then. We should also realize that the sacrifices made by not only the founders but many generations before us required more risk that we are put in today. None of us are actually putting our “lives, fortunes and sacred honors” on the line. None of us are on a literal battlefield giving our lives to defend freedom. We are among those privileged to fight tyranny in a land that affords us the freedoms to do so largely unhindered when compared to most of human civilization.

While our state has many pitfalls, and the cultural rot that we are tolerating would cause any founder to roll over in their grave, we should recognize that each of us could sacrifice more for freedom that we do, and I hope that over the next year, we will.

What happened in Uvalde is truly heartbreaking. The details that have come out following this travesty are even more angering and work as a reminder to just how often government will fail to protect you and your family.

While politicians like Greg Abbott and Dade Phelan try to distance themselves from gun owners, public servants like Ted Cruz and Donald Trump attended the NRA convention in Texas and spoke bold words that will anger those on the left, the ones currently working with John Cornyn to try to pass gun control legislation.

Many of us in Texas are tired of watching our politicians betray our values and principles. If you’re a law abiding gun owner in Texas, you should be concerned that Joe Biden is looking to John Cornyn to help deliver him a gun control policy victory.

Sydnie Henry just published a piece about how Joe Straus is joining the fight to try and drag these liberal Republicans across the finish line. It’s important to remember that this is largely a fight to build a coalition of RINOs big enough to thwart Dan Patrick’s more conservative agenda in 2023.

Here is the most important thing to remember about today: It’s the most important election of your lifetime, until the next one comes along.

The part about elections that I kind of hate is the fact that we are fighting a battle that never ends. House District 73 is one of the best examples of this, and I break down the last 16 years of history in that community to give you a picture of just how neverending this conflict is.

Today’s message is that your decision to engage in this battle must be founded on a realistic understanding that the conflicts you engage in will be guaranteed to last for the entirety of your engagement. The question is, how long will you last?

The march of the sexual revolutionaries continues this week, as a school in Birdville ISD named a mentally challenged young man as prom queen. This young man thinks he’s a woman and came to prom dressed as a woman. This is what happens when public schools force leftist sexual ideology onto our children.

While these battles are raging, Cat Parks, the vice chair of the Texas GOP, is upset that an LGBT group is not being allowed to advance their agenda at the GOP state convention. She has even vowed to not enter the convention hall since there will not be a pro-LGBT group represented.

We have witnessed politicians like Cody Harris and Greg Abbott shift to the right when it comes to their rhetoric against teacher unions. I’ve been spending quite a bit of time studying the theologies and doctrines around the state. As a Christian whose professional life and vocational calling are significantly invested in politics, it’s been a worthwhile endeavor to further understand what God has created and what purpose the state serves.

Today’s discussion is longer than most, and I invited three distinguished guests to join me.

Bryan Wolfmueller is a bit of an internet celebrity for us Lutherans. He’s a well-respected pastor in Austin who also has a YouTube channel and several publishing outlets on theology and the church.

Joel Webbon is a pastor in Georgetown, Texas, and the president of Right Response Ministries. He has a YouTube channel and a podcast where he discusses the church and theology applied to Christians’ lives today.

Bill Peacock is someone many of you are familiar with. He’s a senior policy advisor, host of the Liberty Cafe podcast here at Texas Scorecard, and an economics and government teacher. He’s also an active member at Redeemer Presbyterian in Austin, Texas.

All of you have watched Ron Desantis go from championing a strong parental rights bill that simply said teachers can’t discuss things of a sexual nature with K-3 children, to fighting nearly every pillar of society who attacked him as a bigot, to getting threatened by one of the largest employers in his state, to going on the offensive and removing special government protections for Disney.

This evolution revealed, yet again, just why Desantis has become the expected frontrunner of any 2024 presidential election without Donald Trump.

DeSantis’ approach has riled some Republicans who aren’t used to our leaders fighting for us.

Following this corporate conflict, Exxon Mobile, a major Texas corporation, announced that they will not let the official gay pride flag fly at their corporate buildings. This angered the left, but it should show the right just how much an aggressive approach against leftist corporations could shift the landscape of corporate behavior.

Take note, Texans. These changes are really important for our state.

If you’re like me, you don’t follow Houston politics. But it’s worth knowing that Harris County is larger than most states east of the Mississippi; the fact that the Democrat county judge in Harris County is embroiled in a scandal could have some serious statewide implications.

I’m very grateful for Holly Hansen, one of the most respected journalists in the Houston area; she does a great job breaking down the details of what’s going on.

A lot continues to happen in Texas politics. We start off this week talking about Greg Abbott’s new border policies, one having positive effects and the other an insulting gimmick.

The portion that is having a positive effect was actually a plank in the Don Huffines campaign that Dade Phelan criticized at the time.

But that’s not the only thing Phelan is criticizing. He’s also leaping to the defense of the groomers at Disney while making fun of Dan Patrick, who is standing in the gap for Texas children and parents.

As Phelan drifts further left each month, it’s becoming more common for him to take these kinds of ludicrous positions.

Luckily, some in the Texas House are standing strong for GOP priorities—one of those being State Rep. Bryan Slaton. We wrap up this week’s episode with a conversation Texas Scorecard had with Bryan about an issue he has championed in the Legislature: the banning of Democrat chairmen.

Greg Abbott rolled out a slew of runoff endorsements and chose the more liberal candidate in every race.

His endorsements point to one singular focus and that is setting up a Texas House that is opposed to Dan Patrick’s conservative agenda for 2023.

Today we discuss why this is happening and the implications to an Abbott victory or defeat in the upcoming runoff elections.

Facts are facts. Senate Bill 1646 was a strong bill that would have called transitioning a minor “child abuse.” The Texas Senate passed the bill. Dan Patrick, Charles Perry, Bob Hall, and Bryan Hughes acted quickly and resolutely to defend Texas children. State Rep. Stephanie Klick then killed the bill and forced Ken Paxton to try to protect these kids without the legislative backing for his actions.

At county and Senate conventions, State Rep. Dustin Burrows decided to go to war with Republican delegates over their focus on conservative policies instead of politician praise. Matt Rinaldi continued to be a defender of grassroots delegates by articulating why Republicans are asking for conservative victories.

Lastly, State Rep. Cody Harris made a strong statement aligning with parents against the Marxist indoctrination happening in public schools. This is incredibly encouraging, since Cody represents a faction in the Republican Caucus who votes right of center on most issues but is closely aligned with teacher unions. People like Cody will be vital to building the coalition needed to wrest power away from teacher unions in the Texas House. These types of statements by Rep. Harris are commendable and show that the rightward shift of the Texas GOP is continuing.

Most politicians’ rhetoric and results don’t often match up, and Greg Abbott is no exception. Nate was gracious enough to come and walk through this in-depth article with us.

I’m truly grateful for the true journalists who are out there. They are becoming harder to find on both sides of the political aisle. If you haven’t followed Nate’s work, I would encourage you to do so.

U.S. Rep. Chip Roy gave Texans an important reminder this week in his speech to Congress about the failures of both parties to fight for the priorities of Americans. So many of us are tired of being last in politicians’ list of priorities while our enemies are put in the front of the line. Today, we give you his speech as a reminder of the time in which we live.

Over the last several weeks I’ve encountered more and more Texans who fit this profile and I wanted to take the time today to address the concerns this has created and necessity of this matter.

I wanted to share some of my biggest takeaways from the conversations I’ve had with every-day Texans. I’m incredibly hopeful after the productive conversations and the hunger I have heard from citizens who want more information.

Brooks Landgraf is caught up in a big scandal right now. His reaction has taught us a lot, and he’s been elevated even though many of his colleagues have known about these allegations for a long time.

The Legislature rewards bad behavior and elevates people who are known bad actors. They try to relegate anyone seeking virtuosity while promoting those with known vices.

This is one of the largest problems in Texas, and it’s what we cover in today’s podcast.

Voter fraud is bad, but this formula is very good. In today’s podcast, we go through a step-by-step process to impact the races you care about in a massive way.

Some of the steps are listed below:

– Research and make your list. (Endorse down the ballot, Court of Criminal Appeals, Supreme Court, etc.)

– Vote EARLY!

– Post on all of your social accounts that you voted and researched the candidates. Offer to provide a list (you will get requests).

– Text your list to patriots you know, and encourage them to vote.

– Send a letter to 100 voters in your neighborhood.

– Walk your neighborhood with your list.

The LIBRE Initiative and Americans for Prosperity have been called out and have doubled down in their support of amnesty. Now, Texas Republicans know which GOP politicians are willingly accepting the support of, and aligning themselves with, liberal forces in the GOP primary.

Kambree is a native Texan, a true patriot, and a big voice in grassroots circles. A couple of years ago, she left California and came home to Texas. John goes into incredible detail regarding the history of the Texas border and the state actions currently being taken. John brings light to the fact that it might actually be better for some illegals to be apprehended by state officials rather than Biden’s federal border patrol agents.

Today’s podcast discusses this issue. The Center for Renewing America, an American First national entity led by Russ Vought and Wade Miller, jumped into this fight by calling on Greg Abbott to take action on behalf of thousands of citizens whose job is being threatened.

Brian Harrison has continued to be a clarion voice on this issue and this week was no exception.

Also in the news was the fact that Don Huffines seemingly got Greg Abbott to stop mandating critical race theory training for state employees at the Department of Family Protective Services. This is very good news for conservative Texans.

This cycle’s GOP ballot propositions continue to push the GOP even further toward an offensive strategy that elected Republicans often avoid. This week, we overview the strength of some of these propositions.

We want you to know what is on the ballot so you can have an informed opinion and share with your fellow Texans. 

The ballot language is below:

1.) In light of the federal government’s refusal to defend the southern border, Texas should immediately deploy the National Guard, Texas Military Forces, and necessary state law enforcement to seal the border, enforce immigration laws, and deport illegal aliens.

2.) Texas should eliminate all property taxes within ten (10) years without implementing a state income tax.

3.) Texans should not lose their jobs, nor should students be penalized, for declining a COVID-19 vaccine.

4.) Texas schools should teach students basic knowledge and American exceptionalism and reject Critical Race Theory and other curricula that promote Marxist doctrine and encourage division based on creed, race, or economic status.

5.) Texas should enact a State Constitutional Amendment to defend the sanctity of innocent human life, created in the image of God, from fertilization until natural death.

6.) The Republican-controlled Texas Legislature should end the practice of awarding committee chairmanships to Democrats.

7.) Texas should protect the integrity of our elections by verifying that registered voters are American citizens, restoring felony penalties and enacting civil penalties for vote fraud, and fighting any federal takeover of state elections.

8.) Texas should ban chemical castration, puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and genital mutilation surgery on all minor children for sex transition purposes.

9.) Texas parents and guardians should have the right to select schools, whether public or private, for their children, and the funding should follow the student.

10.) Texans affirm that our freedoms come from God and that the government should have no control over the conscience of individuals.

Good news is that the GENECIS clinic, also known as the group of child abusers who are sexually transitioning Texas children, have been closed down by Children’s Hospital and UT Southwestern.

Bad news is that they are doing so to hide the sexual transitioning of kids, not end it.

They said so in their statement, and today we break down their smoke screen for you.

This news broke over the weekend and has rightfully ticked off a lot of Texans.

Today we talk about the problems this reveals and the frustration with the fact that Greg Abbott and his state agents are enforcing this racist regime.

Josh Blackman is one of the most respected conservative legal minds in the nation, and he lives here in Texas. Josh was gracious enough to come on the show and expound upon his recent op-ed in Newsweek.

Though they don’t make the headline, Jared Patterson, Shelby Slawson, and Jeff Leach will make cameo appearances in this saga, and Matt Krause will leap in front of an oncoming bus.

This is a topic we have covered since the beginning of our podcast, but just a few weeks ago, we exposed how Stephanie Klick was specifically involved in the killing of this legislation.

This episode picks up in the fourth quarter of the session, where several players all worked together to kill this bill.

Dustin Burrows and Dade Phelan were definitely the tip of the spear when it came to killing this life-saving policy.

When Burrows’ role was first called out, it was Chris Ekstrom and Sid Miller who teamed up, and Krause who came to Burrows’ rescue. Regardless of how much cover Burrows got, his ultimate role of slow-walking the bill was masterfully executed with an assist from Shelby Slawson and Jared Patterson, two members of the House Calendars Committee who worked together very closely this session.

Finally, Greg Abbott’s early silence—and obfuscation followed by a nefariously crafted letter on gender transitioning—helped ensure that children are still transitioned in Texas.

Mark Davis’ interview, which we play a segment of in this episode, is crucial in understanding just how hard Abbott worked to ensure this issue was not addressed.

Abbott placed a bill to ban vaccine mandates on the agenda in the last week of the special session so that the bill would die, but it would still look like he supported the legislation. This is very similar to the action taken by Stephanie Klick on a ban on gender modification.

Greg Abbott also recently appointed John Scott as our new secretary of state. We talk about why this is significant and why it took so long to appoint a replacement after the Texas Senate failed to confirm Abbott’s last two appointees.

A couple of months ago Don Huffines called them out, they covered all of it up and hoped it would go away. Now we know how all of this happened because of some excellent reporting done by the Houston Chronicle.

Today, we pull the curtain back and explain how Chairman Stephanie Klick killed legislation that would have ended the barbaric practice of genital mutilation and chemical castration of Texas children.

This episode is incredibly important for all Texans to hear and share.

First, we have Donald Trump calling on Greg Abbott to audit the 2020 elections in Texas, a move that has been requested by election integrity experts across the nation. Abbott has not only refused to do so, but he I s also playing games with his office of the Secretary of state. His actions were called out on Fox News last Sunday, and we discuss the implications ofAbbott dragging his feet on this issue.

Secondarily, we come to the fact that the Legislature decided that part of their election integrity plan should include reducing the criminal penalty for illegally voting. After the bill was praised by Greg Abbott and signed into law, Dan Patrick and others realized that Dade Phelan, the Democrats in the Texas House, and Dade’s GOP loyalists merely made it a misdemeanor to vote illegally. Previously, illegal voting had been a felony.

The Texas Public Policy Foundation seemed to imply that this was an error, but Dade Phelan’s subsequent actions seem to have confirmed that it was intentional.

Now, we have Dan Patrick prioritizing legislation to correct this problem, Dade Phelan publicly opposing efforts to do so, and Abbott doing nothing other than quietly adding it to the special session agenda.

Texas Republican Party Chairman Matt Rinaldi has called for this priority to be on every special session moving forward until the Texas House is forced to deal with it.

This issue won’t go away, and we feel like every Texan should be aware of its implications. I hope you enjoy today’s episode.

Today, I have a conversation with Pedro Gonzales, an associate editor at Chronicles Magazine and a fellow at the Claremont Institute. Pedro is someone I have looked up to for several years. The theme of today’s podcast developed a month ago when Texas Values, the largest family policy organization in Texas, proudly announced that Gov. Greg Abbott would keynote their annual policy orientation.

The organization received more than a little criticism from grassroots activists for placing a politician on a pedestal who closed churches on Easter Sunday due to his fear of a pandemic. This is the same politician who ignored the sexual transitioning of children for years until faced with legitimate primary challengers. Even then, his fabricated policy only addressed a small part of the problem.

Gov. Greg Abbott and Speaker of the Texas House Dade Phelan are standing in the way of a bill to ban puberty blockers and sex change surgeries.  Phelan, through his coordination with State Reps. Dustin Burrows and Stephanie Klick to kill the bill in the regular session, and Abbott, by refusing to support the bill in a special session.

So today I ask, if the largest family policy group in Texas will praise a Governor when he refuses to support a family policy that 95% of Republicans support, why would that Governor ever address the issue?

This special session we see Abbott again caving to the NCAA by carving them out of the sports ban he’s supporting. This is the Kristi Noem white flag to universities, while Ron Desantis said “to h*#$ with their events”.

I asked Texas Values’ Jonathan Saenz to come on the show to discuss this disagreement in a respectful manner. For a month we worked to make this happen, but Jonathan Saenz simply refused to come on the show.

For all of our listeners and viewers you don’t wonder about my position on this issue, but it’s a massive debate going on around the nation and around the world. Texas is part of that discussion and today I sit down with Austin Attorney and Democrat donor Adam Loewy to debate the issue of whether abortion should remain legal in Texas.

I’m very grateful to Adam Loewy for being willing to have this conversation. It’s honestly hard to find establishment Republicans that are willing to discuss our differences and it’s also not easy to find Democrats willing to come on a conservative show and defend their positions either.

Republican Chairman Greg Bonnen made it crystal clear that the Texas legislature has no intention of securing our southern border and even said that his plan to spend $1.8 billion in taxpayer money was to build some border barriers to “shift the flow of people into more specific areas to identify more of them”.

So let me explain Republican leadership’s plan to fail at our southern border. They believe that the problem this year is not that nearly 1 million people came across our southern border, but that they were too spread out in their entry. This absurd plan is to still allow all illegals currently crossing to continue to enter into our nation but make sure we can at least document who they are before allowing them to enter through an open southern border.

Another thing we continue to witness this week is that even though GOP factions are more united than ever behind getting rid of Democrat chairs who fled our state, Chairman Jim Murphy, Dustin Burrows, Will Metcalf and Dade Phelan are working with Drew Darby to undermine GOP priorities and keep Democrats in their powerful chairmanships.

Why?

Because the Texas House is full if weak, corrupt Republicans who are more concerned with their own power than the political and policy priorities of their voters.

We also spend a little time talking about property taxes. While some legislators like Paul Bettencourt continue to work on actual property tax relief, others are settling for political wins that will have little to no impact on the vast majority of their constituents.

I take some time to step back and look at just how far we have let our state drift and why the issue of sexually transitioning our children is the most important issue facing our state.

Last week, Governor Abbott—after being pressured by lawmakers, political opponents, and grassroots conservatives—took more action regarding the open Texas border. This action is a reversal of his stance the week prior, as expressed on Fox News.

This recent action is a big win for Texas, yet it still adopts so many rules that the left has tried to force on our state, and our governor is playing along. Let’s break this down.

Why is Abbott referring to illegals as “migrants”? Why is he using the words of the Biden-Harris administration? The war of words matters.

Why are we only stopping illegals who “might spread COVID” instead of stopping all illegals from entering our state and breaking our laws? The games being played are following rules that the left has created to undermine our state, nation, and culture—and letting them set the rules is a very bad idea.

Matt Shaheen couldn’t come up with any response this time, Jeff Leach admitted that he thought signing a piece of paper was hard, and Will Metcalf acted as though the deceitful practices of the leadership team didn’t exist and that Democrats all of the sudden started being untrustworthy.

All of this made for a remarkable start to our week, and that’s what we talk about today on our podcast.

We also talk about the general worldview of empowering Democrats, which was revealed in January of the 87th Legislative Session when Jeff Leach attacked Bryan Slaton for opposing Democrat chairmanships.

Fast forward to this week, when Chris Turner, who was handed a powerful chairmanship by Dade Phelan, called the GOP speaker a dummy for removing Joe Moody from his speaker pro tempore position. There is a big political battle shaping up in Tarrant County where Tim O’Hare and Betsy Price are both running to be the next County Judge. Dade Phelan was placed in a position where more than 10 members were willing to challenge his ruling, which would have destroyed his speakership. He stood down and allowed them to have their way as a result.

Phelan also worked to defend critical race theory and gender modification programs in the state budget. Today, we’ll overview those actions in detail.

The Texas budget is not providing Texans with any meaningful property tax relief, so homeowners need to buckle up for the next several years.

Earlier this year, conservatives were outraged by Congress closing a prayer with “Awomen,” rather than “Amen.” This is offensive, but Talarico’s prayer was just as bad—if not worse.

The Texas House is not a body that is led by a strong moral ethic; this much we know is true, and it’s important that we recognize that. It changes the way you address the Legislature and what you expect from them.

State Rep. Cole Hefner, a member who is very close to Dade Phelan, decided it was time for him to prioritize the GOP agenda. The Republican Party of Texas has 9 priorities, and most legislators have kept from supporting them. Hefner recently announced that he was authoring, or co-authoring, 8 agenda items. What was strange was that, instead of co-authoring 1 or all 3 of the currently filed constitutional carry proposals, Hefner copied and pasted State Rep. Kyle Biedermann’s bill into his own bill. Similarly, instead of co-authoring Bryan Slaton’s monument protection bill, he copied and pasted and filed the same bill with his name on it. Hefner also copied State Rep. Steve Toth’s legislation regarding banning sex-change surgeries on minor children.

It’s times like this that reveal a truth that we all know. For house leadership, personality trumps policy. Honestly, I don’t know if we will actually protect monuments this year, but more important to many politicians is who gets the credit.

Hopefully, the Texas House gets past this personality contest and starts to focus on actually delivering conservative results. Texas needs it, and we’re done with the excuses we keep hearing every session.

The sad thing is that not only does Gov. Abbott believe he single-handedly is the one who gets to decide if Texas is open, he believes that he single-handedly gets to decide which businesses are open and which facial coverings must be worn by all Texans.

Today we take a walk down memory lane. When the pandemic first hit, Abbott, claimed that a statewide mask mandate was not in alignment with the views that Texas had on freedom and liberty. Then as the political pressure mounted, he calculated that his legacy would be better off if he instituted a statewide mask mandate similar to that of New York and California.

Abbott assumed that less emotional governors like Florida’s Ron DeSantis would be proved wrong and his unwillingness to have a statewide mask mandate would prove ill-informed and lead to more death. He was wrong. And it took him eight months of mandates to decide he was wrong.

Now, State Rep. Dustin Burrows is working desperately against the Texas Senate and the Texas Republican Party to pass legislation that endorses Abbott’s dictatorial handling of the pandemic.

The good news for Texans is that State Sen. Brian Birdwell, along with many Texas senators, is pushing legislation to end Abbott’s overreach. Right now, the only Republican senators who haven’t signed on to support Birdwell’s legislation are:

• Bryan Hughes
• Jane Nelson
• Kel Seliger
• Larry Taylor

This legislation gives the Governor, during a pandemic, dictatorial authority over Texas citizens and businesses. It also threatens businesses who don’t obey every one of Governor Abbott’s executive orders, with legal liability due to their disobedience. It’s an attempt to create more loyal subjects, not freer citizens.

The worldview of this bill is one that runs antithetical to our founding fathers, the state constitution, and the Republican Party Priorities which clearly state executive power needs to be curtailed.

Dustin Burrows is declaring open warfare with Allen West, any State Representative who has criticized Abbott, and any business who disobeyed Abbott’s shutdown orders. This bill is a direct contradiction to the position of Senator Charles Perry, who is also a constituent of Dustin Burrows.

It’s truly remarkable just how much this bill is a pure endorsement of the big government dictatorial actions of Greg Abbott. Not only that, but Dade Phelan has prioritized the passage of this bill by giving it such a low bill number.

Instead of handling these issues separately like the Texas Senate, House leadership has decided to use D.C. tactics of putting everything in one omnibus bill, which means there are some little nuggets of good things to cover up their destruction of the Texas constitution.

Hopefully, this is not a trend that continues out of Dade Phelan. We shall see.

Here is what some of you might not know. Bob Hall has been talking about protecting our power grid ever since he got elected to the Senate 6 years ago. There is no person better informed on the threats to the grid. Senator Hall has also been asking his fellow legislators to protect the grid for his entire tenure.

None of the grid-related legislation that Senator Hall has pushed has become law and the question remains; will the legislature take a leadership role or reactive role in fixing the issue.
