Well, festival season is in full swing and next up is Cheech’s Deecefest at Bluebird Campground in La Crosse, WI! That’s right, Deecefest is a family friendly music festival put together by Cheech, otherwise known as Gregg Hall, annnd it happens next weekend! Always a big supporter of local music, the festival is including a Thursday night lineup of all local artists! And there’s so much local talent that the rest of the weekend has plenty of beloved local stars as well. So, grab a lawn chair and your favorite beverage coozie and claim a spot at this year’s Deecefest, next week from Thursday July 24th through Saturday July 26th. Buuuuut, in anticipation of next week’s fest, we have a special treat for ya. Tonight, we will be playing through some live performances from a bunch of the acts playing this years Deecefest, recorded at various locations in the area over the past 15 years! So, if ya want a lil taste of Deecefest before next weekend, you’re in luck! RADDERDAZE Ten Year RADIVERSARY Compilation Retrospective

Long long ago, in a bar not too far away, and idea was born. An idea to include Elvis impersonators, kid bands, and live VHS directed dance workouts alongside local up and coming bands and scene staples. An idea that may not have been the best idea, but it was an idea, nonetheless. It was an idea that used two-colored flyers with sharpied band sketches. Legend has it that nothing was out of the question. And that idea that was born 10 years ago this very year, was Radderdaze. For 10 long years Radderdaze has provided our fair scene with more bands for less clams. So we here at KQAL rose to the occasion and searched high and low through the archives, mostly high though, to find some of these bands that have played Radderdaze throughout its first long 10 years. So tonight on The Live Feed, we bring you a compilation retrospective episode of The Live Feed, bringing you some of the best and second best bands that you’ve ever seen sketched out in sharpie on a Radderdaze flyer. Feeding Leroy, outta Duluth, MN, has been a staple at Boats and Bluegrass longer than some folks can remember, and with good reason! One reason might be that some folks can’t remember too well, but that’s not the good reason I was talking about. The good reason they keep comin back to Boats is that they do a darned good job playin’ darned good string band music of their own making.

What we’re about to hear is something of a special Boats & Bluegrass performance… yea, yea, I know, they’re all special, but this one is a just a little more special… ya see there were some technical difficulties that day because of the weather, on account of a little storm rollin’ through. And well, some things got switched around, stages and time slots may have been swapped a bit and well, long story short, Feeding Leroy here ended up playing an intimate acoustic set in the crowd under a big tent with no amplification. So yea, it was pretty darned special. And just goes to show ya that Feeding Leroy really is the real deal. Well, I feel like I’m ramblin’ again so as they say, less talkin’ and more rockin’! Johnson Street Underground Holiday Concert 2023

Tonight on The Live Feed, we have a special holiday episode featuring Winona’s own Johnson Street Underground. Johnson Street Underground is an a capella group that covers a wide variety of musical genres from Dolly Parton to the Beatles to Adele. Tonight they turn their talents more towards themes of wintery nights, holiday cheer and Christmas. The group is comprised of Matt Schultz as the dramatic tenor, Seth Flatten as the lyric tenor, Charlie Opatz as the baritone and John Chernega as the b-b-b-b-b-basss. This holiday concert by the Johnson Street Underground was performed at the Winona Arts Center on Saturday, Dec. 16th, 2023. The guys brought out some new tricks that night, including new tunes, percussion, guitar and even some audience participation sing-a-long songs! Echo of the Bluebird is a songwriter series inspired by the Bluebird Café in Nashville and brought to life by Mid West Music Fest. In each episode of the series, three songwriters join each other on stage to share their songs and the stories behind them. This episode took place at the Burke Music House in Winona and features Jake Ilika, Lena Elizabeth and Mike Munson. Tonight on The Live Feed we talk about a new series of local shows called Echo of the Bluebird. Echo of the Bluebird is a “writers round” series inspired by Nashville and brought to life by Mid West Music Fest. The shows consist of three songwriters taking turns playing their songs and telling stories about the songs, the craft of songwriting and life in general. The first show of the series kicked off November 15th with Lee Henke, Palmer T. Lee and Jaybone Bell. Tonight we visit with MWMF Managing Director Abby Lee and Creative Director Parker Forsell to talk about the series, the inspiration for it and who we might see next at Echo of the Bluebird Shows.
