Reflection is a powerful tool for self- and professional growth, resilience, and client care. As Dietitians, we navigate many different relationships, evolving practice evidence, and the complexity that can come with supporting others.. But how often do we pause to truly take the time to reflect on our practice from multiple perspectives, allowing us to get new levels of insight and awareness that can take our practice to the next level and radically improve client care. Supercharging self-reflection means moving beyond surface-level “How did that session go?” into deeper exploration of what shaped our reactions, decisions, and approach.

Through intentional reflection, we can enhance self-awareness, clinical decision making, and professional confidence. It allows us to identify patterns, recognise what’s working (and what’s not), and challenge assumptions that might limit our practice. By making reflection a habit, we build the mental agility and emotional resilience needed to sustain ourselves in this work.

This process isn’t about perfection or judgment—it’s about curiosity, learning, and growth. It’s about catching self-doubt before it spirals, exploring why certain clients feel particularly challenging, and noticing how our values influence our decision-making. With an extra dose of skills (and courage!), reflection can shift from a passive afterthought to an active, career-long superpower.
