All of the individual commands that make up the Law of Moses are attached by these two great commandments.

Without hesitation, Jesus answered:  “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment… on that, all of the Law and the Prophets hang."

These are the names of the sons of Israel who went to Egypt with Jacob, each with his family: Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah; Issachar, Zebulun and Benjamin; Dan and Naphtali; Gad and Asher. The descendants of Jacob numbered seventy in all; Joseph was already in Egypt.

Now Joseph and all his brothers and all that generation died, but the Israelites were fruitful and multiplied greatly and became exceedingly numerous, so that the land was filled with them.

Then a new king, who did not know about Joseph, came to power in Egypt. "Look," he said to his people, "the Israelites have become much too numerous for us. Come, we must deal shrewdly with them or they will become even more numerous and, if war breaks out, will join our enemies, fight against us and leave the country."

So they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labor, and they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh. But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites and worked them ruthlessly. They made their lives bitter with hard labor in brick and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their hard labor the Egyptians used them ruthlessly.

Right now we are in one of the storms of life, but Jesus offers us a way to get through.

I pray we are on the cusp of at least a new normal, but as we look forward I think we all realize things are going to look differently for awhile and maybe that’s a good thing!

We don’t have a definite answer about when or how to reopen, but as Christians we have the perfect Word of God to guide us through this moment. It’s up to us though to use it.

We like to measure our time in minutes and hours, right now the government is measuring in weeks and months, and yet God measures time by millennia. Sometimes He tells us to slow down, sometimes He tells us to speed up, and other times He just wants us to stay on the same exact pace. That can be frustrating to us, because no matter how long we have lived, we just don’t have the perspective of God.

Jesus came for the broken, sick, hurting, and lonely. It's only when we realize that we are broken, that we can come to God to be rebuilt.

Today on Rooted Daily we talk about how mothers time and time again rise to the challenge of a crisis in the Bible. They don't always have all the answers, but through God they are able to get through anything.

You sent in over a hundred different questions about how Christians should respond to the coronavirus pandemic. Today we look for answers to 6:

We've had many interesting questions come in over the past week and today we are looking for Bible answers to four of them:

1. Are we sinning if we stop worshiping or worshiping together under the threat of government force?

2. Are we sinning if we break the law to worship together?  

3. Does the perception of all of this matter? 

4. Does time matter?

While the government continues to enforce stay-at-home orders even on churches, arresting people trying to worship together, should we obey the government and health authorities? Biblically speaking, are they allowed to dictate how we worship? 

Everything that we thought was holding us together is either gone or in jeopardy in this pandemic, but we were never truly in control. Maybe we had a paycheck and good health, but without God we were dead. Today we share some good news though: God provides.

We can see a lot of good coming out of this dark moment, but make no mistake, we are missing something when we are separated. How should we cope with this separation from our Christian family?

The Bible tells us how we can follow Jesus, no matter the circumstance. The genius of God handed down a way of living that can be applied to a Roman soldier living two thousand years ago to the stay-at-home, remote worker with a busy schedule of Zoom calls. 

We're out of the studio today in one of the reserved prayer spots at the local hospital to talk about how we can serve healthcare workers during this crisis.

This is a confusing, frustrating, and anxious time for everyone, but it can be on a whole other level for kids. For parents at home (and grandparents, uncles, aunts, friends, teachers, and all Christians helping them from a distance) it’s so important that we share biblical wisdom and peace with the kids around us.

Risks are, by definition, all about stepping into the unknown. When Peter walked on choppy waters towards Jesus that was a literal stepping out, but there’s something different about the risk Peter took and the ones we sometimes have to consider: Peter knew God was asking him to take that risk.
