Heather Shtuka’s life took an unexpected turn when her son, Ryan, disappeared from Sun Peaks Resort six years ago. Heather Shtuka and her husband Scott have traveled to the resort community from their Alberta home several times since their son, Ryan Shtuka, went missing after leaving a house party at 2 a.m. on Feb. 17, 2018. From her initial role as a parent to the relentless pursuit of finding Ryan, Heather transformed into a search and rescue coordinator and missing-person advocate, chronicling her emotional journey in a well-received book, ‘Missing from me.'

RCMP have continued to investigate Ryan’s disappearance. Continually searching for answers, Heather, along with her husband Scott, return to Sun Peaks annually to mark the anniversary, fostering a resilient spirit within the community while navigating the challenges of loss and uncertainty.

Alana struggled as a youth, facing homelessness and battling addictions while living in a small community in Alberta. Alana enrolled in the Social Work diploma program at NorQuest College and graduated in 2023. Jason Gregor is a sports-talk radio host on TSN 1260 in Edmonton, weekdays from 2:00 - 6:00 pm. Phil Alain is a renowned painter and artist based in Edmonton. Phil embarked on his artistic journey at the young age of 13 in St. Albert, and later pursued his passion at the University of Alberta in the esteemed B.F. Program. He also honed his skills at the Fine Arts Program at Grande Prairie Regional College. He is the visionary behind ‘Amy’s House,’ a comforting home away from home for cancer patients who have to travel long distances of over 100 kilometers to seek medical treatments. Melanie Hibbard is the Executive Director of DRIFCan, Diabetes Research Institute Foundation Canada. The Edmonton non-profit organization is dedicated to advancing TD1 research at the University of Alberta in hopes of finding a cure for type 1 diabetes. Amanda Rummery is a runner, who has been a key part of Para Athletics in Edmonton since 2017. Amanda's left arm was paralyzed in an ATV accident in 2015, resulting in an eventual amputation of the arm in 2018. She now competes with her 'nub.' Amanda had a great year in 2022, achieving personal bests in the 400 metre event at the World Championships.

Dean Kurpjuweit is the current President of the Union Gospel Mission. Dean previously served as the Executive Director of the Mustard Seed in Edmonton and Chief Regional Officer for Red Deer, Medicine Hat and Kamloops. Dean felt his calling to UGM based on his lifelong commitment to Christ, social justice and serving alongside marginalized communities.Dean is firmly aligned with UGM's vision of transorming communities, one life at a time. Dean is a University of Alberta alumni, having graduated with a Bacholor of Education. He comes from a broadcasting family, where his father Bruce Hogle was a long-time anchor with CFRN Television. His professional career includes decades in media, where he ran the CTV Edmonton newsroom, worked at the Alberta Research Council (now Alberta Innovates) and spent time with the Edmonton Oilers as Vice-President Communications Broadcast. 

Prior to joining the RiverHawks, Steve spent six years in Saskatchewan as President of the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League.
