Potcast S2 E12 - Diamonds & Hash: Cannabis Concentrates with The Bubbleman & Diamonds by Douglas

On this episode of The Potcast with Ross Rebagliati, we’re talking to some folks who have made a name for themselves by separating the cannabinoids and terpenes from the cannabis plant and turning them into highly concentrated forms for consumption, specifically bubble hash, rosin and diamonds.

The legendary “Bubbleman” Marcus Richardson, creator of Bubble Bags and Hash Church, regales us with potent tales of his longtime love affair with bubble hash. And, we’ll talk to Ryan Douglas, the guy credited with introducing the Canadian recreational cannabis market to solventless diamonds with his brand, Diamonds by Douglas.

Grab your dab rig and turn up the volume… we’re about to concentrate hard on cannabis concentrates.

About Marcus “Bubbleman” Richardson - Founder of Bubble Bags & Hash Church

X & IG: @bcbubbleman

youtube.com/bcbubbleman

bubblebag.com

bubblemanbrandusa.com

Meet Marcus "Bubbleman" Richardson, a pioneering entrepreneur and hemp activist since 1993. From securing the first legal hemp field in Manitoba in 1995 to advancing medical cannabis extraction methods, Marcus has left an indelible mark. His journey includes affiliations with the British Columbia Compassion Club Society, Founder at Embark Health Inc, Partner at Whistler Technologies specializing in large scale equipment for bubble hash production, and the establishment of FreshHeadies, Ltd., known for the world's first eight-bag water extraction kits. As well as consulting within the field he lends a hand on equipment acquisition and build outs, Marcus' expertise further reaches to cannabis macro photography, featured in National Geographic and other renowned magazines. As an educational speaker and advocate, he has shared insights at conferences worldwide. Marcus continues to explore the medicinal value of cannabis and, in 2014, initiated research in Jamaica to study the effects of different strains on human ailments. In 2017, he embarked on a global venture, branding his full melt hash and establishing processing facilities in three countries, showcasing his innovative dry sift and wet wash methods. Marcus also runs his bubbleman brand throughout Canada and the US in over 7 states.

About Ryan Douglas - Founder of Rosin Unity & Diamonds by Douglas

@Diamonds_by_Douglas

Ryan Douglas started his journey making rosin in 2016 using a hair straightener. He is one of the creators and founders of Rosin Unity, software developed for rosin production, which launched in 2018 at the Okanagon Cannabis Cup just before legalization in Canada. Ryan worked with Kam at Camp River to be the first to bring solventless diamonds to the legal rec market in Canada.

About Ross Rebagliati

Ross Rebagliati is a Canadian snowboarder who won a gold medal in the men’s giant slalom event at the 1998 Winter Olympics. A positive cannabis test led the International Olympic Committee to strip him of his medal, but the decision was overruled in appeals court two days later because cannabis was not on the list of banned substances. For that reason, Ross’ medal is the only Olympic medal to have ever been returned.

Since then, Ross has become an outspoken cannabis advocate and entrepreneur.
Cannabis & Sex: A Love Story as Old as Time

Why is a love story that began thousands of years ago still struggling to come out from under the covers? That’s the question we’re asking in this episode of The Potcast with Ross Rebagliati, where we’re exploring the passionate relationship between cannabis and sex.

We’ll take you on a journey from tantric rituals in 7th century India, to the secret writings of Carl Sagan, to important research today that’s making a strong case for the connection between cannabis and sexual enjoyment.

Dr. Suzanne Mulvehill from the Women’s Cannabis Project joins us to talk about her research and how she’s made it her mission to get cannabis approved as a medical treatment in the US for women with orgasm difficulty. And Ross sits down with Shahbaaz Kara-Virani to chat about cannabis, performance enhancement, and CBD topicals for the bedroom from Canadian cannabis wellness brand, Proofly.

About Dr. Suzanne Mulvehill https://womenscp.org/

Suzanne Mulvehill, PhD., is a Clinical Sexologist, Orgasmologist, and the Executive Director of the Female Orgasm Research Institute, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to conducting research to identify proven pathways to female orgasm, to bring awareness to the mental and physical impact of female orgasm disorder (FOD), and to reduce the persistently high percentage of women suffering from FOD. Dr. Mulvehill leads the Women’s Cannabis Project, a public policy initiative to get FOD added as a condition of treatment for medical cannabis in US states and countries worldwide. In 2024, the states of Connecticut and Illinois become the first US states to approve medical cannabis as a treatment for FOD.

Dr. Mulvehill’s most significant research to date, revealed that cannabis use before partnered sex improves orgasm frequency, ease, and satisfaction for women who report orgasm difficulty. Her research is supported by 50 years of cannabis and sex research and has been published in Sexual Medicine, and the Journal of Sexual Medicine.

About Shahbaaz Kara-Virani – Proofly https://www.proofly.ca/

Shahbaaz is renowned for his unparalleled skill in nurturing growth and spearheading innovative go-to-market strategies, having made a profound impact in the cannabis and technology sectors. He is responsible for successfully transforming Kind Magazine’s business model from magazine-centric to events-driven, and is celebrated for his exceptional talent in identifying market opportunities and executing successful product launches.

Among many other pursuits, Shahbaaz is an evangelist for Canadian cannabis wellness brand, Proofly, makers of a line of intimate products for performance enhancement in the bedroom, including warming CBD massage oil and water-based CBD lubricant.

About Ross

Ross Rebagliati is a Canadian snowboarder who won a gold medal in the men’s giant slalom event at the 1998 Winter Olympics.
Ross’ Story: Turning Olympic fame into green gold

Show Notes:

In this episode of The Potcast with Ross Rebagliati, we’re putting our host in the hot seat to address the question on everyone’s mind: was Ross able to turn all that fame and attention from his 1998 Winter Olympics controversy into piles of green gold after legalization?

We’ll find out how Ross went from smoking joints with the Rolling Stones and appearing on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, to struggling with cannabis-related stigma, to becoming the bootstrapping cannabis entrepreneur he is today. It turns out there may be a few similarities between competing in extreme sports and playing this game called cannabis.

Plus, we’ll hear from some of his collaborators about how teamwork helps everyone get ahead in the high-pressure cannabis industry. We’ll chat with Red, Master Grower from Papa Joe’s Organics – a micro cultivation operation growing organic weed in Sooke, BC, (including Organic Mango Gold for Ross’ Gold), and Fabrizio Rossi from Trygg Collective, where Ross is leading a high-tech pre-roll production team.

About Papa Joe’s Organics https://papajoescannabis.com/

Papa Joe’s Organics cares about the quality of the weed you smoke and their impact on the environment.
Trust the Budtender: the unsung hero of the cannabis industry

Show Notes:

This episode of The Potcast with Ross Rebagliati is dedicated to the folks on the front lines of recreational cannabis retail: Budtenders.

What is a Budtender? Advertising and promotion restrictions in the Cannabis Act make it difficult for cannabis brands to connect with consumers outside of age gated environments, meaning many consumers walk into a store with very little knowledge about the products on the shelves. This lack of experience could lead to choosing the wrong product and having a bad experience. That’s where the Budtender comes in. By tapping into their deep product knowledge, Budtenders help consumers sift through the saturated world of cannabis retail to find the products that meet their needs.

In this episode, Ross sits down with passionate Budtender Cameron Csaszar of London, Ontario, and Jaime Lipowitz, founder of High Buds Club, a private club for Budtenders focused on cannabis product education, career development, and camaraderie. Listen in to find out more about the essential role Budtenders play and how they build the knowledge they need to give you a solid recommendation.

About High Buds Club https://www.highbudsclub.com

Founded in 2020, High Buds Club was created to give Budtenders and cannabis retailers a safe place to share honest opinions, sharpen their skills on the floor, and connect over their love for the culture.

HBC members receive access to the HBC Feed – a private social network where they can chat openly and honestly about anything cannabis related. No risk of being flagged or deleted here!

Members also have access to exclusive product sampling opportunities, deep product education, selling tips, and certification programs that can help blast their cannabis career into the stratosphere.

About Ross

Ross Rebagliati is a Canadian snowboarder who won a gold medal in the men’s giant slalom event at the 1998 Winter Olympics. A failed drug test for cannabis use led the International Olympic Committee to strip him of his medal, but the decision was overruled in appeals court two days later, resulting in Ross’ medal being restored.

Since then, Ross has become an outspoken cannabis advocate and entrepreneur. He was featured in the July 14, 2008 edition of Sports Illustrated, which profiled his life since his Olympic win.

About Ripco Processing https://www.ripco.pro

Ripco Processing is at the forefront of medical and recreational cannabis innovation with a focus on CBD and THC products.

Humans have been consuming cannabis for thousands of years. While traditional methods of consumption will always stand the test of time, Ripco is continuously developing new and innovative ways to enjoy Canada’s favourite herb for a more consistent, convenient and enjoyable experience.

The Ripco Processing family of brands includes Stick It, a clean burning, innovative stick that infuses pre-rolls with cannabinoids; Strip It, an edible cannabis product similar to a breath strip that dissolves quickly on the tongue; Ross’ Gold premium cannabis and pre-rolls; and Ovation topical cannabis products.

Ripco Processing operates a licensed micro processing facility in Calgary, Alberta.

Potcast Credits

Hosts: Ross Rebagilati & Don Shafer

Guests: Cameron Czaszar (Budtender), Jaime Lipowitz (Founder, High Buds Club)

Producer: John Masecar

Writer: Jessica Grajczyk

#budtenders #cannabisretail #dispensaries

The Canadian Potcast has a new host. In 1998 Ross Rebagliati became the first Olympic snowboarding gold medalist, but it was what happened next that made his name synonymous with cannabis: his medal was revoked for a positive drug test, then reinstated on appeal when it turned out that cannabis wasn’t actually banned. In the 25 years since then he has reinvented himself as a campaigner, entrepreneur and advocate… so we’re really excited to welcome him to the Canadian Potcast as our new host. Don Shafer isn’t going anywhere though, and in this episode he gets to know our new colleague a little better, and talks about the highs and lows of his life and career after that fateful run in Nagano ‘98.

In the USA cannabis is classified as medically useless, and as dangerous as heroin since 1971, on the federal level at least. Cannabis was first banned in the U.S. in 1937. In this episode of Potcast, we tell the story of Harry J Anslinger, the man whose political ambition and racism led to that ban. Also, while cannabis remains illegal at the federal level, businesses that operate in legal states have to jump through all kinds of hoops to do their banking. We talk to a cannabis banker about how to navigate that bureaucratic mess.

S1E5
