After the events of October 31st 1981, he tried to remove it with magic, maybe it would’ve worked if it wasn’t a muggle tattoo, but the ink stayed firmly on his hip. Remus begged for the wolf to scratch at it, to remove it from his body, but Moony stayed stubborn and kept it there, new scars surrounded it, but never over it.

But now, as Sirius Black stands in his kitchen, drinking a cup of tea with a five-year-old Harry on his hip, he’s quite glad it’s still there. A reminder of what was, a memory, something pleasant to distract him from the events before he turned twenty-one.
