Here's the latest newsletter sent by the Lintons to their supporters:

Taiwan Prayer Letter of Joel and Judy Linton
April 2026

Dear praying friends and family,

Happy Resurrection Day!, which in one sense I could say every Lord’s Day. This year we celebrated with one of our supporting churches as we have been support-raising in the U.S for two months. We’ve already spoken at 5 churches and we are planning to visit 6 more in five states. I need to increase my own support levels, and I’m hoping to pick up at least two more supporting churches. Also we are raising money for our Yilan church’s building fund.

And we have one other reason to be in the U.S. as our third daughter Ashlyn is graduating from college. Last week we got to see her perform a Rachmaninov piano concerto with a full orchestra. It was amazing! And it was the first time in two years our entire family was able to be together. (We took a picture together after the concert. See attached.)

Please pray for out time here. After driving back down from Michigan, a letter was waiting for me in the mailbox: I have been called up for jury duty on a capital murder case. I wrote the court and the judge requesting to be excused but have still not heard back. If I have to serve jury duty, that will affect so many plans. I’m also concerned about being able to attend Ashlyn’s graduation. Please pray that the judge will excuse me.

Pray also for Liam Carr and his family. They are our newest Mission Sending Service long-term missionaries and are awaiting Taiwan’s government to issue them a visa so they can move to Taiwan. The Carrs have also been raising support and are not yet to full levels. Pray for their move this year and their adjustment to living in Yilan County and full-time language study.

Please pray for K.B. Church while we are away. Pray that God will work in each of those attending the church to become more mature. Pray that more will become Christians. And pray for more coworkers.

There are many books teaching parents how to care for toddlers and teenagers, but fewer about what to do with adult children who are leaving or have already left the home.

How do parents handle it when their children are leaving home? It’s heartbreaking, yet by the time they are 18, parents should be ready and encouraged to see them leave.

How long should daughters stay in their father's home?

With time, the authority of father and mother shifts from command to wise counsel. But the obligation to be a mother and father does not end when children are over 18. They still need counsel; they should not be cut off—launched and forgotten.

How do you keep your children’s hearts soft toward you as they grow into adulthood?

Family meals and devotions should not be guilt trips. Keep them simple and focus on what you and your family enjoy most. Many husbands perform at the dinner table and during devotions to meet their wives' expectations and aspirations.

The most difficult thing you do in ministry is to call your own congregation to repentance. It is easy to talk about the sins of people outside the church, but exceedingly costly to do so to those within the church. Your job is on the line. A godly church will love you for that. But there are a lot of bad congregations—those congregations that like their ears tickled. We should love our pastors when they make us angry with their helpfulness.

Yet, if pastors will preach to their congregations, their congregations will lead the world. It is not until we are challenged to submit to Scripture ourselves that we will be salt and light in the world. If there is going to be a Biblical church, the most important thing to do is to keep its discipline vivified. But we'd much rather spend our time fighting people who are opposed to Christianity. NETTR protects the "constituents," and casts stones at the world.

We don’t understand Elon Musk until we get a grip on South Africa and her unapologetic males. South Africans have not been run through the American/European "plastic extruder" that removes manhood from them. We as a nation have lost manhood. South African males typically have this attitude: there is absolutely nothing that they can’t do. It’s an endearing trait. There are many things you can say about Elon, but he does demonstrate irrefragable masculinity. Intrinsic to that trait is a can-do positive confidence. There is an optimism about him that causes him in most things to come through.

Purchasing a Tesla used to be a way of widening your phylacteries. It was a symbol of progressive ideology. Now it is a right-wing middle finger. Being a Tesla owner is a legitimate risk to your safety. It is increasingly possible that the left is going to lose their mind so badly that they are going to create a revolution. What is going to happen? Will the center hold? 

And then there is the woke right and their millenarian crusader vengeance fantasies.

There is a fundamental truth about violence: it is like fire. Once you start it, you can’t control it.

What can we learn about church reform from wildfires and fire policy? It is common for pastors to be punished when the fire of the Holy Spirit begins to burn. Fire ought to be allowed (planned burns); so, too, the Holy Spirit will burn for the good of our churches and people.

We often think that our parenting is a failure if we have to resort to authority. That attitude is foolishness and an abandonment of God's rules for parenting. Our fears and modern psychologists have trained us to believe that authority is antithetical to having your child's heart. We must be reminded that if we intend to hold on to our children, obedience to God is the only way. 

No one would deny that mothers and fathers have duties regarding their children, but many are willing to dispute that children have duties regarding their parents. Parents ought to serve and love their children, but also children ought to serve and love their parents.

The man Tim was trying to remember mentioned during the recording was Jerome Irving Rodale founder of the magazine, Organic Farming and Gardening, and also Rodale Press. The talk show host Dick Cavett tells the story:

When That Guy Died on My Show (interview with Dick Cavett)

When I’m doing an appearance somewhere and taking questions from the audience, I can always count on: “Tell about the guy who died on your show!” I generally say, “I will, and I promise you that in a few moments you will be laughing.” (That gets a laugh.) I go on: “First, who would be the logical person to drop dead on a television show? A health expert.” (Laugh.) I go on to explain that he was Jerome I. Rodale, the publisher of (among other things) Today’s Health Magazine. (Laugh.) The irony gets thicker.

He’d been on the cover of The New York Times Magazine that Sunday, and we needed one more guest. He was a slight man, and looked like Leon Trotsky with the little goatee.

He was extremely funny for half an hour, talking about health foods, and as a friendly gesture he offered me some of his special asparagus, boiled in urine. I think I said, “Anybody’s we know?” while making a mental note to have him back.

I brought out the next guest, Pete Hamill, whose column ran in The New York Post. Rodale moved “down one” to the couch. As Pete and I began to chat, Mr. Rodale suddenly made a snoring sound, which got a laugh.

Comics would sometimes do that for a laugh while another comic was talking, pretending boredom. His head tilted to the side as Pete, in close-up as it happened, whispered audibly, “This looks bad.”

The audience laughed at that. I didn’t, because I knew Rodale was dead.

To this day, I don’t know how I knew. I thought, “Good God, I’m in charge here. What do I do?” Next thing I knew I was holding his wrist, thinking, I don’t know anything about what a wrist is supposed to feel like.

Next, in what felt like a quick film cut, I was standing at the edge of the stage, saying, “Is there a doctor in the … (pause) … audience?”

Two medical interns scrambled onto the stage. The next “shot” that I recall was of Rodale flat on the floor. The interns had loosened his shirt and his pants, and were working on him. He was the ghastly pale of a plumber’s candle.

Other memories that seem to come in stop-frame sequence:

- Two stewardesses in the front row who’d been winking and joking with me during the commercial breaks were now crying. I guess from their training and having seen emergencies, they knew the score.

- Watching the awareness that this might just be real start to roll backward through the audience. Their reluctant awareness that this was not part of the show.

- A camera man standing on his tiptoes, his camera pointing almost straight down on Rodale and the “action.”

- Someone running onstage with a small tank of oxygen with a crucial part missing.

- The bizarre feeling of denial that this must be part of the show. After all, we were in makeup and there were stage lights and a band and an audience that had been laughing and clapping only moments earlier.

- Pete Hamill amidst the turmoil, as an ambulance crew arrived, calmly and professionally making notes in his reporter’s notebook. (He got a memorable column for the next day.)

- Finding myself in a fog in my dressing room, discovering a few strange objects in my pocket that someone must have handed me. A ChapStick, a watch and some keys, clearly from the dead man’s pockets.

- A voice in the alley as I got in the car: “Hey, Dick, was that for real?”

I went home and looked up Robert Frost’s poem “Out, Out —,” which contains the words, “… And they, since they/ Were not the one dead, turned to their affairs.”

The next morning, I called my mentor and former boss, Johnny Carson. The story was all over the news. I asked Johnny how I could ever do another show. “It’s like Kennedy’s death, isn’t it, Richard?” he said. “You wondered how anybody could ever do another show. This won’t sound very profound but you just go out and do it. And you’ll get a couple of surprises.”

That night I told the whole story in the (comedy) monologue spot. No laughs then. I dreaded coming back from commercial.

No one referred to the tragic happening, and everything meant to be funny got what seemed clearly to be larger than usual laughs. This, it turned out, was the main surprise Johnny knew was in store for me. Everyone was eager to get back to laughs.

This is the topper: Upon warily deciding to view the sorry event a few weeks later, along with my staff, we noticed three things that, incredibly, no one had recalled Rodale’s saying: “I’m in such good health [he was 72] that I fell down a long flight of stairs yesterday and I laughed all the way.” “I’ve decided to live to be a hundred.” And the inevitable “I never felt better in my life!” (The gods and their sense of humor.)

Physical dangers are not the only dangers our children face. Spiritual and sexual dangers are also constant. One of the best protections we can provide our children is a deep understanding of Original Sin.

Subsequent episodes will delve more into the sexual dangers.

PS: In this episode, the book Tim couldn’t remember was John Eldridge’s “Wild at Heart.” Released in 2001, the book sold over four million copies in the U.S. alone, starting the man’s movement still thriving today among conservative Christians. The Religious News Service summarized Eldridge’s message: "The book sought to empower men to realize 'dreams of being the hero, of beating the bad guys, of doing daring feats and rescuing the damsel in distress’.”

God is the one with whom we have to do. You can judge God all you want, but in the end, he’s the one who will do the judging. The judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether. But as pastor Max points out in the conversation, the law that Jordan Peterson or anyone else teaches cannot save you. Scripture teaches that we are saved by faith, and so we get in to what it means to have faith.

Many young Christian men are in the same boat.

A guy like that is very susceptible to others who tell him that he has to hunt or build his own house or live on a farm if he’s going to be a real man. Those things involve work that is very good, but those works do not define what it means to be a man.

As we mentioned last week, the foundation of work is in the cultural mandate for us to take dominion over the earth. And there is absolutely a manly way to do that. But the essence of it is not in knowing how to program a computer or build a house, but rather in taking responsibility for yourself and for others out of love to them and love to God.

And, of course, we live in a physical world! So that means you must be willing to tackle physical work when it comes your way, and cheerfully! And as Christians, we don’t look down on physical work, we honor it.

But we are unwilling to receive the same kind of treatment from a pastor. And, the truth is, many pastors don’t even believe they are supposed to make a diagnosis at all, let alone get involved in actually helping us heal. But that’s precisely what a pastor is called to do.

As you listen to this conversation, you’ll notice that we spend a lot of time talking about sexuality (which, if you know us at all, is not surprising), and you may think that we’ve left off talking about pastoral leadership as it pertains to this issue of the mind and the heart. But keep your eye on the ball, because really what we’re doing is opening up a case study to help us understand the issue better. There is nothing more objective than “He made them male and female,” but these days, we can't even have separate bathrooms for men and women.
