Currently, he volunteers as the Executive Director for a Christian ministry established to facilitate Bible Translation, trauma healing, and other discipleship activities in South Sudan. John collaborates with other like-minded organizations that share our mission of reaching out to churches, schools, and hospitals in South Sudan and beyond with God's Word. John and Stella are parents to two boys and two girls, all of whom are orphans and aged between 7 and 13 years old.
John Kerim is a graduate of Scott Christian University in Kenya, holding a bachelor’s degree in theology. He plans to pursue a Master of Arts in Biblical Translation when the opportunity arises, potentially in 2024. John is deeply passionate about reaching South Sudanese communities through Bible translation and literacy programs, which empower people to engage with God's Word in their lives.
John Kerim joined Wycliffe Associates, a Bible translation organization, and served as the South Sudan Country Program Manager from 2016 to 2018. Later, in 2018, he initiated a ministry known as Relief South Sudan. He has been dedicated to serving disadvantaged groups in South Sudan, including the blind, deaf, elderly, and vulnerable, to ensure they too can access God's Word through literacy efforts.

He presently holds a B.Th. and an M.Th. Degrees from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville Kentucky USA, and Ph.D. from the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomoso in affiliation with the University of Jos; and an M.A Christian Religious Studies from Olabisi Onabanjo University. He is currently, to the glory of God, the academic and administrative leader of the Baptist College of Theology, Lagos.

We are excited to invite you to a special webinar highlighting the incredible work of a team of volunteers who have taken time off work and paid their way to come to Africa to teach literacy with Godly content to churches and schools in Tanzania. This team is truly living out the testimony of witnessing to others and reaching those in need, spanning each decade of life from the 20s to 50s, bringing a range of Christian life experiences to serve the teachers and children of Tanzania. Partnering with the Africa Inland Church of Tanzania, this team has trained over 120 pastors and evangelists in their literacy program to reach hundreds of schools and churches in the Lake Victoria region of Tanzania. Through using literacy, the team ultimately has a goal of shining the light of Christ in places that cannot even access God's word because literacy is so low. During the webinar, each panelist will share a short devotion of scripture impressions they have collected in their encounters with this ministry. They will also discuss the literacy program itself, the heart of volunteerism, and the partnership it takes to change a nation. This is an excellent opportunity to learn from individuals who have willingly put aside the urgencies of their lives to be present in a mission to uplift other Christians. Dr. Folashade Oloyede is a language specialist, a passionate Bible translator, and a theological educator. She holds a Master of Divinity degree in Religious Education; this is in addition to her bachelor’s and Master of Arts degrees in the English Language. Her doctoral degree is also in the English Language with Pragmatics, the study of the meaning of language in context, being her area of specialization. She is a lecturer in the Faculty of Education at the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomosho, where she teaches English Language and Communication related and research courses. She is also the head of the Publishing Unit of the same institution. She strongly believes that God’s word in the heart of humankind produces transformation, and such transformed people can rise to become the “Repairers of Broken Walls” and “Restorers of Streets with Dwellings.” (Isaiah 58:11-12).

In Christianity, self-evaluation and reflecting on one’s impact on others is an important part of spiritual growth and understanding one’s role in the world. And as Christians, we are called to model our lives after Jesus and strive to follow HIS example. This means that in evaluating ourselves, we should look to see if we are living out the values and teachings of Jesus which includes things like love, compassion, forgiveness, and humility. We should also consider the impact we have on others. Are we living in a way that reflects the love and grace of God, or are we causing harm and division? Are we using our gifts and talents to serve others and bring Glory to God or are we using them solely for our own benefit? From our assurance of salvation that we can understand in 1 John chapters 3 and 5, we have a sonship through Christ (John 1:11-13). From this redemptive process in Christ (Colossians 1:13) we have a reconciled life (2 Corinthians 5:17-21) that is assured of His presence (Matthew 28:20). If we can live obediently, we will benefit and attract the Lord's blessing (Isaiah 1:18-20) and further comprehend the forgiveness we have (Ephesians 1:6-7, Romans 5:6-7). It is well-known that there are several different Greek words that are translated with the word love, but the love called for in John’s letter in the Bible is the word agape, which speaks of the highest form of love there is. This form of love is characterized by self-sacrifice and is the kind of love that God displayed for us by Christ’s sacrifice (John 3:16). The kind of love that causes John to address his friends as agapetoi—beloved, or, “divinely loved ones”.

John is reminding us that the love that we have been given by God is the love that we are to give to one another.

Mercy on the other hand, is almost the antithesis of justice. It is the withholding of the deserved punishment for a crime or offense. Paradoxically, we all want mercy for ourselves and to see justice in the world. But what if justice begins well before the criminal system? What if mercy is more than just withholding punishment? By understanding these ideas from God’s view, we begin to see that justice has failed if it relies on the courts, and mercy is thin if it requires a wrong to be excused.

They are co-founders of Almanah Rescue Mission in Jos, Nigeria, a ministry that caters to widows and orphans as well as MMD (More Than a Mile Deep), an educational ministry to train pastors in Africa who are not able to go to seminary full-time. Bulus had his graduate studies at the Wheaton Graduate School, Illinois and Trinity International University, Deerfield, Illinois. He was Dean, and later President of JETS (Jos ECWA Theological Seminary) and most recently Dean of the Cook School of Intercultural Studies at Biola University, California.
