Why are hormones considered medication, and when did we start giving it to trans people? When did we start administering hormones to CIS people? Who were the thinkers who originally researched trans people, and why was the early research burned and destroyed? Why are there so few older trans people? Why were the guidelines for transition SO strict in the 1900s? How did doctors take advantage of the system to abuse trans people? When did the tides begin to shift? How long did it take before trans people were accepted as the experts of our own experiences? (and why was it SO LONG??)

ALL of those questions (and more!) are answered in this week's episode. Next week, we'll be back with the ultimate question: why did we start giving hormones to children? Who were the masterminds and researchers behind transgender medicine, and how can we continue to improve it in the future?

As a followup to our "We used to be transphobic" episodes, we decided to dive deeper into some of the most pervasive and common transphobic beliefs that far too many people still hold. This is part two, where we cover all the beliefs we didn't cover in Part 1. Also--in the episode we technically only count up to 13, but that's because we bunched some together in the first part and forgot to count them lol

In THIS episode, we cover: the idea that trans people only transition because they have a fetish (aka autogynephilia), the idea that trans women are "mocking" womanhood (lol), that trans women still have 'male' privilege (LOL), that trans men are simply trying to hide from patriarchy, that homosexual trans people don't exist (despite one of them being a host of this show...), that trans people should play sports with their "assigned" gender rather than their actual gender, that people should wait until age 18 to start transitioning, and we reveal the TRUTH about detransitioners. Together, we can spread the factual information we need to finally break this transphobic hatewave that's been spreading around the globe!

27 Trans Terms You Should Know (Part 2)

Whether you're newly out, just exploring the community, or trying to do some research to be more supportive of a friend or family member who you found out is transitioning... there are a LOT of terms around being transgender (or any variation thereof) that can be hard to parse, and sometimes you just don't feel comfortable asking someone to do the emotional labor of explaining it to you!

That's what this two-part episode is for!!

That's not to say this video ISN'T for you if you're already an expert on queer terminology... because we're also going to explain the HISTORY of these words: where they came from, who coined them, why they're used, why there's pushback, and why they're important!!

In this episode, we're finishing up with the remaining 13 of the 27 terms Chloe researched, including: what's the difference between 'transgender, transsexual, transvestite, and drag,' and how did those terms slowly unfold into each other over the course of the last 150 years? In order to explain that, we have to talk about the difference between 'gender identity' and 'gender expression,' before we dive into a whole series of terms: gender-affirming surgery, hormone replacement therapy, puberty blockers, facial feminization/masculinization surgery, and gender dysphoria vs body dysmorphia.

Then we wrap the whole thing up with the most controversial word of them all: autogynephilia. No matter what you know about this word already, you're going to be surprised by the long (and insidious) history behind it.

Because it's the end of the year, curiosity got the better of Laura, and she decided to look into why our calendar is organized the way it is. Why are there 12 months? Why are there such a random number of days in each month? Why are their names of the so nonsensical? How did ancient civilizations organize their calendars? And is the answer to every one of these questions just, "PATRIARCHY"?!

The answer then raises new questions: Why DON'T we organize our calendar around a natural cycle like the moon? Why did ancient matriarchal cultures ALL organize their years around the moon? What role did Catholicism play in the destruction of ancient ways of organizing time??

Secret Trans Cultures: Indigenous History They Don't Want You to Know - PART 3

Before colonialism took over the globe, before the Abrahamic/patriarchal Religions took hold, there were trans people. In fact, EVERY pre-colonized culture had a version of trans people, and in EVERY culture, the same belief cropped up again and again: people who were cross-gender or 'between' genders were the people with supernatural abilities, capable of communing with the spirit realm, heal sickness and disease, sense evil, befriend animals, see the future, and more...

In PART THREE of our exploration of gender variance in pre-colonial cultures, we explore 1) slaves who were FORCED to be trans, 2) how terminology has evolved and been co-opted to fit into larger colonial societies, 3) alternate possible causes for alternative gender identities, and most importantly... 4) the spiritual connections / superpowers that trans people were believed to hold. Some of these cultures are still holding it down in the fight against colonizers, and to them we say: KEEP IT UP.

Today, we're covering another SIX cultures (although it's secretly a lot more), and the history of the gender-differing people within them. Samantha Fulnecky, a junior at the University of Oklahoma, has cried RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION after she FAILED a Psychology research paper, wherein she ignored the rubric & requirements and INSTEAD wrote about her personal beliefs that trans people are "Demonic" and "listening to Satan." Her professor's administrative assistant, who she knew would be grading the assignment, was a transgender woman named Mel Curth.

Mainstream Media has been covering this story as "Transgender teacher fails student for quoting the Bible!" -- a narrative that has been HEAVILY touted and pushed by Turning Point USA's University of Oklahoma chapter.

So today, we're going to give you JUST THE FACTS about this story: what was the research paper she was supposed to be responding to? How did she respond? What has been the fallout from her actions? Why is she so insistent on turning FAILURE into a media moment? And more importantly... what can WE do to reinstate Mel Curth, who was put on probation?

You hear it a lot these days: "Trans People just came out of nowhere!", "This whole transgender thing is a made up fad!", "There's no evidence of trans people ever existing before!"

Except... none of that is true. Before colonialism, before Christianity, before patriarchy... there were trans people. Trans people were such a natural part of humanity, that transgender people existed in nearly every indigenous and pre-colonial culture across the entire globe. Not only that, but those trans people were seen as 'closer to god,' and in nearly every society, were chosen as spiritual and religious leaders, sometimes being the only ones trusted to choose the King.

Much of that history was lost to the violence of missionaries and colonizers, but some of it remained. Today, we're covering FOUR of those cultures, and the history of the gender-differing people within them. Namely, the Hijra, Kathoey, Muxe, and Bakla.

Intersex Rights ARE Trans Rights

(yes) Why are people so obsessed with performing nonconsensual surgery on newborns?! How much overlap is there between Intersex and Transgender rights?!?!

What do we ACTUALLY know about Narcissism/NPD? (and other Psychology Questions)

Where does the concept of narcissism come from? What causes it? Is there a genetic component? Can people with NPD be 'cured'?

Chloe dug into the research and read all the studies and has an alternate take on how it all fits together. Facts like, "there is no single unifying factor that defines all narcissists," or "the only proof that we have that there is a genetic component comes from a self-report mail-in survey on child twins" are just the tip of the iceberg as we explore everything that the psychology community currently knows and understands about what is currently classified as a Personality Disorder.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are the type of person who has dated a narcissist for a long time because you believe you can 'cure' them, or because you have empathy for their situation and 'understand' why they are the way that they are--NARCISSISM is REAL, and there are a lot of narcissists who learn how to fake healing so that you will stay and continue to give them supply. Do not take this episode as a reason not to leave an abusive situation or a situation that causes you distress. While on a big-picture scale, we may not know very much about the personality disorder, we are also nowhere near a 'cure,' because that might literally require rebuilding society from the ground up. I don't think this was made clear enough in the episode.

Once there, a sinister plot begins to brainwash, mentally break down, and sometimes physically abuse these children until they 'act right.'

The 2025 LA Fires: Our Experience (OG: Los Angeles is on Fire!!)

The SoCal fires were devastating. People lost their homes, loved ones, schools, and pets. We had to evacuate from our apartment, and are very grateful our building was still there when we came back.
Beyond that... there has been a LOT of misinformation going around about how the CA state government handled this catastrophe, and we are here (doing our best) to debunk it!
