Jennifer Marnane O’Connor - Minister of State at the Department of Health has welcomed has warmly welcomed funding of close to €30 million for Carlow and Kilkenny under the new Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund. The Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund replaced the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund which supports urban regeneration projects and the development of sustainable communities through the provision part-funding for applicant-led projects. Peter Chap Cleere FF TD - Fianna Fáil spokesperson for Rural Affairs and agriculture, he also welcomes this announcement.

US President Donald Trump has said yesterday evening's move to lift tariffs on Irish whiskey applies to Ireland only and not the EU. Whiskey made in the Republic of Ireland that is sold into the US was subject to a 10% tariff, putting it at a disadvantage with Scotch and Northern Irish whiskey which currently has no tariff. Mr Trump announced the move at the end of the Irish Open in Doonbeg yesterday. His announcement has been welcomed by the Government and by the representatives of the Irish whiskey industry. Mary Harrington is the Administrator for Grow Mental Health in the South East Region, and Ann Matthews is a member of the Cois Nore Choir and also a member of Grow Mental Health. Back in December 2025 Mary started looking into doing a fundraising event for Grow Mental Health. She met with Anne Marie in St. Canice's Cathedral and she was telling her about the installation of 7000 white paper doves as created by British sculptor Peter Walker. They looked at dates and noted that the 10th of October is World Mental Health Day. This event has grown from a conversation to getting Paul Byrom and the Cois Nore Choir on board to now having an event on World Mental Health Day. Paul Byrom is one of Ireland’s finest crossover tenors. Dublin-born singer has been in the music industry for over 30 years. Paul has performed in a wide range of productions, from operas to musical theatre. We are all aware of how Fabulous the Cois Nore Choir are. Mac Rua is a Carlow based band. Their debut EP INITIATION, was released on September 12, 2025. MACRUA went through some changes.
Mac Rua members Aaron Smith and Elliott Cass started to write songs together as a duo. Firstly he talks to Jennifer Marnane O’Connor - Minister of State at the Department of Health has welcomed news that the Skyclarys drug has been approved for reimbursement by the HSE senior management team today. “I want to acknowledge the Friedreich’s Ataxia patients and their families for their advocacy and I know that today’s decision will mean so much to them. I have been privileged to meet them on several occasions, including Emily Felix and Oisin Pollard from our area and I am thinking of them today. I want to acknowledge the work of the HSE in progressing this application and my colleague Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill. I hope that today’s decision brings hope to those living with Friedreich’s Ataxia and their families.”

Amber O’Rourke attended Gaelcholáiste Cheatharlach and did her Leaving Cert this year. Amber suffered from a stroke when she was in just Senior Infants in Primary School, it left her paralysed on one side of her body. She went through a very long recovery process including a kidney transplant

Lauryn was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in 2022 and is still undergoing chemotherapy. She has been sick through most of her senior cycle but has overcame a lot to remain positive and attend school through it all, completing her leaving cert this year which went very well also. She is a full-time wheelchair user. Almost one in every two crime-related contacts received by Ireland's national victims' support service last year related to assault, harassment or stalking. Haley Halpin form the Crime Victims Helpline (CVH) about how the service has supported 5,902 contacts in 2025, and provided 3,268 referrals to specialist victim support, criminal justice and community services. Founded just over 20 years ago, the helpline provides information and support to victims of crime in Ireland. The number of contacts supported by the charity last year fell by almost 1,000 contacts (967) compared to the previous year. Its latest annual report shows that assault accounted for 24% of recorded crime-related contacts, while harassment and stalking accounted for a further 21%.

Many in several European countries can avail of the costly treatment for the rare, inherited genetic disorder and there had been hopes that the Irish State would follow suit in funding it for those in need of it here. However, a meeting yesterday concluded that the price of the drug is substantially higher than what’s considered cost-effective. Their decision will now go before senior management at the health body for a final ruling on the 25th of August.
