Young people can sign up to perform any variety of talents – singing, dancing, playing an instrument, poetry reading, stand up comedy, anything! The top three performers from each qualifying round go on to perform in the finale on December 3 in the Watergate to compete for the grand prize.

Caitríona sings and directs, joined by Nick Roth (saxophones, percussion), Deirdre O'Leary (clarinet, bass clarinet, percussion), Greg Felton (electric keyboard, percussion) and Mel Mercier (percussion). They perform them in St. Canice's Cathedral, where Ledrede was bishop. Behind them hangs Peace Doves, a recently installed work by the internationally renowned British sculptor Peter Walker: 10,000 paper doves,each carrying a handwritten message from someone in Kilkenny — a prayer, a memory, a wish for peace.

Teagan Middleton, 13, from Carlow, has qualified to represent Ireland at the IFMA Muay Thai World Championships in Athens this November, after finishing third at last year's championships in Abu Dhabi. 

Teagan trains up to four nights a week, combining early morning runs with late-night sessions, and has already won titles at the Estonia Cup, the Sandee Cup and in Liverpool this year. He has an update – they have raised sufficient funds to facilitate Teagan Middleton representing Ireland at the 2026 IFMA Youth World Championships in Olympia, Greece

The Kilkenny Night Time Economy Initiative started in 2023, as part of a pilot of the Government of Ireland for cities and towns around Ireland following the publication of the Irish Government’s Night-Time Economy Taskforce Report in 2021. This report had been commissioned after substantial changes in the Irish night time economy over the past 20 years, and the effects of the Covid-19 lockdowns on the night time sector. Kilkenny City was selected as one of nine pilot towns and cities nationwide to develop and implement a dedicated Night-Time Economy Action Plan. 

The initiative is led by Kilkenny County Council and is built around collaboration between businesses, cultural organisations, community groups, residents, public agencies and the hospitality sector. A dedicated Night-Time Economy Advisor for Kilkenny was appointed in October 2023, and a stakeholder forum was established to guide the development of the plan and ensure broad community representation

They have already achieved their ninth Green Schools flag, and are always looking for new ways to encourage their pupils to appreciate and protect the natural environment. They are delighted to have been selected as one of just two finalists in County Kilkenny for the Lidl Green Fund! They are up against St. Kieran’s College, a much larger secondary school in Kilkenny, so as a tiny rural primary school, we really need the support of the wider Kilkenny community to give them a fighting chance. 

If successful, they hope to create a sensory biodiversity trail within their school grounds, incorporating wildflower planting, bird feeders and opportunities for hands-on environmental learning. This would provide their pupils with a wonderful outdoor space where they can explore nature, learn about biodiversity and develop a lifelong appreciation for the environment. For a school of their size, this funding would make an enormous difference. Voting takes place through the Lidl Plus app from 15th–22nd October.

There will also be live music from Yvonne Moriarty, local hurling and camogie players, cheerleaders, children's characters, a caricature artist and plenty more throughout the day. The event is raising much-needed funds for Kilkenny Helping the Homeless, a self-funded registered charity supporting individuals and families experiencing homelessness and hardship. A tremendous amount of voluntary work has gone into organising the market, and we would love the opportunity to highlight both the event and the wonderful community support behind it.

When she was last on, she was looking for funding to go towards equipment, locations, music and post-production, which would help her take this film to a higher level. The film is inspired by American Psychologist Ellen Langer's COUNTERCLOCKWISE EXPERIMENT which studied links between the body and mind in the elderly (with a Swedish twist!). Once completed, she said she planned to submit the film to festivals all over the world.

The update is that the film is now complete and Maeve Shaw is taking her debut short film Old Dogs, New Tricks to California this month, where it will have its US premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival

After months of planning, hard work, blood, sweat and tears, to see so much damage caused so senselessly is absolutely heartbreaking. What makes it even harder to understand is that this was all created for children and families to enjoy together. But we will not let this ruin what we have worked so hard to create.

The report for Q3 2026, in association with Bank of Ireland, shows that the median asking price for a property in the county is now €265,000. That means prices have remained flat over the quarter. Asking prices for a 3-bed semi-detached house in the county rose by €5,000 in the last year to €270,000. This means prices rose by €1,250 over the quarter.  Meanwhile, the asking price for a 4-bed semi-detached house in Carlow rose by €10,000 in the last year to €290,000. This price has remained flat over the quarter. There were 139 properties for sale in Carlow at the end of Q3 2026 – an increase of 15% over the quarter. The average time for a property to go sale agreed in the county after being placed up for sale now stands at just under two and a half months.

Golfer Paul McGinley is among those to have paid tribute to former Irish international Paraic O’Rourke who has died. Born in Naas in 1949, O’Rourke won the South of Ireland Amateur Open Championship in 1979, 1981 and 1985 and played 30 matches for Ireland at senior international level. He made his Home Internationals debut at Royal Dornoch in 1980 in a side featuring Ronan Rafferty and Philip Walton and remained unbeaten in 50pc of his appearances for Ireland between 1980 and 1985. A member of Naas and Kilkenny golf clubs, he spearheaded the creation of Gowran Park, bringing in Jeff Howes to design the course.

The development plans include the construction of 8 industrial-scale Mega wind turbines, reaching heights of 175 metres. Locals argue that the scale and location of the project make it unsuitable for the rural and heritage-rich setting of Inistioge. Patrick Croke says they have now have secured exclusive, direct supporting statements from Oscar-nominated director Jim Sheridan, who warns that visible turbines will 'take away the magic' from a village 'lost in time,' alongside location industry expert Gary Callaghan, who outlines why moving turbine blades create a multi-million-euro technical and financial impossibility for Hollywood post-production teams.

The key issue for discussion is the margin in malting barley for 2026 and beyond. Malting barley is more costly to grow than feed barley, yet the price of feed barley is now on a par, or higher, than the malting barley price for 2026. Growers have reacted with disappointment to the release of the harvest 2026 malting barley prices over the past couple of weeks. 

These grain prices are set to be the main issue raised at the meeting as the price of feed barley is now on par or exceeding that of malting barley, while malting barley also incurs increased costs to grow the crop. John Murphy is encouraging all malting barley growers to attend the meeting to have their voices heard. IFA president Francie Gorman is also due to be in attendance.

They are a Carlow headquartered company, supported by Carlow LEO; one of their directors is a homegrown Carlow female founder, Emma Ware. They started SúilSiar because they felt the impact of a gap in the market in the Irish language secondary school classrooms. Today that gap has become Carlow based and Carlow LEO supported Súilsiar Teoranta's niche and their goal is to expand within and beyond this niche. As teachers in Irish-medium settings, they saw it every day.

They taught classes and worked alongside brilliant students and teachers, but it was often obvious that they were at a numerical disadvantage. English-medium classrooms had and will always have access to far more resources, purely due to the numbers. They set up SúilSiar.ie to start closing this gap. They have in recent weeks started to talk more openly about their AI for Irish language education project, a project we call #buAIrcín. BuAIrcín is The trust layer for accurate, subject-specific AI output for Irish medium education & broader technology localisation – it is essential as Irish and other minority languages are in danger of being lea behind in the age of AI.

Videos of furniture being thrown out the upstairs window of the house in College Court are being reviewed by gardaí as part of the investigation. In one video circulating on social media, dozens of people are seen cheering as a mattress was thrown out a window. She wants to let listeners know that Kilkenny Castle will light up teal tomorrow night, 7 October, for International Trigeminal Neuralgia Awareness Day. It's one of 18 landmarks across Ireland taking part in the Facial Pain Association's global Light It Up Teal campaign, alongside Chicago's Willis Tower, Niagara Falls and London's Tower 42. On the FPA's list, Ireland now has more landmarks taking part than any country outside the US. October is also Facial Pain Awareness Month.

Corinna Hardgrave’s extensive body of work also displayed her talent as an interviewer, with her renowned chef subjects over the years including Ferran and Albert Adriá, Michel Roux, Yotam Ottolenghi, Madhur Jaffrey and Clare Smyth.

She was born in Co Carlow and grew up in Dublin. Her first job was with Guinness, which she joined from school. She subsequently worked in the Middle East, initially as a flight attendant and subsequently in promotion and public relations. This brought her to England, while her food writing career began after they moved back to Ireland when their first daughter was born. Corinna Hardgrave is survived by her husband Steve and their two daughters, Katherine and Isabelle.

She’s joined today by her 10-year-old daughter Molly, who has Down syndrome, to chat about their new inclusive colouring book, Molly & Friends – Everyone Belongs, and why representation and inclusion from a young age matter so much. When Rhona went looking for a colouring book for my daughter, she couldn’t find one that represented her.

In some schools, it will mean disruptions to early drop-offs and late collections outside of school hours. INTO members will no longer cooperate with Croke Park hours which will lead to the withdrawal of pre- and post-school supervision, meaning that pupils can only be on school premises during official school hours. Members will also refrain from attending staff meetings and formal parent-teacher meetings outside of school hours.

 The announcement was made at an awards ceremony this evening, as part of a four-day celebration, taking place from 1 to 4 October in Daingean Uí Chúis, Co. Kerry. Now in their 19th year, the Blas na hÉireann awards are famed for celebrating produce from across the country. 

This year, over 3,000 products from every county in Ireland competed across more than 200 categories. The most notable awards, though, are undoubtedly Supreme Champion, sponsored by Bord Bia, and Best Artisan Producer, sponsored by LEO Network. Arán Bakery & Bistro were crowned Supreme Champion thanks to their "exceptional breads and pastries", which have "consistently impressed" the Blas na hÉireann judges.

Having previously been a finalist, gold medal winner and Supreme Champion in 2022, Arán has returned to the top spot four years later with its Arán spelt sourdough – making Bart Pawlukojc and his team the first ever recipients to win the Supreme Champion title twice.

Earlier in his life he attained qualifications in law and accounting as well as a master's from Stanford University’s School of Business. He has been designed a Scholar by Stanford University as well as a Pathfinder in 2020. In 2020 he initiated a three-month project in collaboration with Stanford Business School, where he recruited fifty volunteers to research on Neurodiversity. They wrote and published their eighty-page Stanford NDGifts Report in September 2020.

During this work they collaborated with Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Google, Linkedin, Bank of America and Salesforce. He has lived most of his life in Ireland and at times in New York and California. This boundary-pushing exhibition relies entirely on motion. Yesterday the Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) unveiled the nationwide programme for DCCI Irish Design Week 2026, providing designers, makers and creative businesses across Ireland with a platform to showcase how creativity shapes Ireland’s identity, communities and future. This year’s programme offers participants a unique opportunity to showcase their work to new audiences, build connections across Ireland and internationally and highlight the contribution of Irish design to our cultural, social and economic landscape. 

We have circa 30 free events and 10 private or events that have a small charge.  From energy-saving advice and biodiversity projects to youth workshops, film screenings, community gardening and sustainable living demonstrations, Carlow Climate Action Week 2026 will showcase how local people, organisations and businesses are working together to create a more sustainable future for County Carlow.  Organised by Carlow County Council, Carlow Climate Action Week takes place from 3–12 October 2026, bringing together over 40 activities and events across the county. The programme includes practical workshops, expert talks, family-friendly activities, community initiatives, business events, nature-based projects and hands-on demonstrations designed to make climate action accessible, relevant and achievable for everyone. One of the strongest themes running through this year's programme is collaboration.

The changes – coming in from next Tuesday, Budget Day – will see the introduction of a grant of €2,000 to help households fund the scrapping of a fossil fuel heating boiler. This applies to houses built before 2021. They will be encouraged to get a heat pump and other renewable heating systems. Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment officials estimate that such a system would save a household €185 a year. In relation to the boiler scrappage scheme, all eligible homeowners with a heat-pump application already in progress will receive an additional boiler scrappage grant of €2,000.

Last year, he self-published his debut novel, ‘Friday Night, Monday Morning’.  It's about three friends in their twenties looking for their paths in life and building up the courage to pursue their self-improvement, even if it goes against what they're used to. They want to talk about a significant piece of Irish sporting history taking place in Carlow tomorrow when Female Cue Sports Ireland / RILSA (Republic of Ireland Ladies Snooker Associaition) will mark 40 years of organised women’s cue sports in Ireland with a special anniversary celebration, book launch and documentary premiere at the Seven Oaks Hotel in Carlow, beginning at 7pm. The evening will tell the story of the women who played, competed, coached, refereed and volunteered—often at a time when women had to fight simply to establish their place in cue sports.

Lauryn was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in 2022 and is still undergoing chemotherapy. She has been sick through most of her senior cycle but has overcame a lot to remain positive and attend school through it all, completing her leaving cert this year which went very well also.  They both talk to Brian about their experiences
