In this special Black History Month episode of Industry Ready, we're handing the microphones over to four of our incredible learners who are helping to make a difference through our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Society at LDE UTC. Following last week's conversation with our EDI Leads, Gill and Denise, we hear directly from Joel and Aisha in Year 13, Zainab in Year 12, and Kaiden in Year 11. They share why they chose to get involved, what Black History Month means to them personally, and why celebrating different cultures, backgrounds, and identities is so important. Learners and parents/carers will hear how our students are helping to create a college community where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and proud to be themselves.

Our learners also share their experiences of organising events such as Culture Day, celebrating their heritage, finding confidence in their identities, and encouraging others to embrace what makes them unique. From sharing personal stories to inspiring younger learners and making sure everyone's voice is heard, this episode highlights the positive impact young people can have when they are allowed to lead and make a difference. In this episode of Industry Ready, we meet Alan, Head of Faculty for Digital, who gives learners and parents/carers an insight into the T Level in Digital Software Development. Alan explains how this two-year qualification combines academic learning with practical, hands-on experience, covering everything from Python programming, web development, and database design to cybersecurity, testing, and problem-solving. In this episode of Industry Ready, we meet Famida, Subject Lead for Mechatronics and Robotics, who introduces learners and parents/carers to the exciting T Level in Design and Development for Engineering and Manufacturing. In this episode of Industry Ready, we meet Rachael, Upholstery Course Lead at the East London Furniture Institute (ELFI), who introduces learners and parents/carers to the creative, practical world of upholstery. Rachael explains how the T Level combines design knowledge with plenty of hands-on workshop experience, from transforming dining chairs and creating headboards and footstools to learning industrial sewing and working with textiles and leather.
