The new He-Man and the Masters of the Universe trailer gives us something to talk about. Mainly, that after the backlash Revelation received we’ve heard no backlash against this newest iteration that doesn’t resemble the property at all. Ultimately, though, it’s not made for us and that’s fine.

Plus, The final trailer for Marvel’s Eternals gives us an indication that the film has a plot and a threat of some kind. Also, we review Nobody and PG: Psycho Goreman. A fun pair of popcorn flicks that know exactly what they are and deliver what they promise. Enjoy!

Mistress of the Universe - Nights

Last week, Netflix debuted “part 1” of Masters of the Universe: Revelation and all the angry fanboys collectively lost their minds. How dare Kevin Smith focus on a guuuurl in their He-man cartoon? How dare they attempt to inject character arcs, world progression, and a narrative that might actually (but didn’t really) have some kind of stakes?

It was a WHITE hot fury that burned quickly. Like, really quickly. By the time we got a chance to chime in with our thoughts on Thursday it seemed everyone was over it. Anyhow, we were just as excited to talk about Masters of the Universe: Revelation as we were to address the rather predictable backlash. Melanie even watched the show and, trust us, she wasn’t too thrilled to watch it.

That’s far from all we discussed, though. Huge news in the world of Doctor Who! It has been announced that both Whittaker and Chibnall are out but when and how much Doctor Who can we expect in the next couple of years? We also discussed Kingdom: Ashin of the North, a special prequel episode to Netflix’s fantastic South Korean zombie horror/political drama series, Kingdom. Plus, See You Yesterday, a tonally odd time travel film that mixes lighthearted teen-centric sci-fi with heavy social commentary. Enjoy!

Netflix is considering rolling out a new service it’s calling N-Plus. So, what exactly is N-Plus? It seems that Netflix doesn’t even know yet but they’ve been sending out surveys to random customers gauging interest in every potential feature.

Coincidentally, just recently we were discussing features we wish the streaming services would adopt. Well, Randy happened to be one of those random customers to get a survey so this episode we break down every feature Netflix is considering. From unexpected features like recipes from Netflix shows to the most basic of options like being able to search or browse.

Is Netflix seriously unsure if users would like to SEARCH and BROWSE through this potential new service!? Right up front here we are on board with many of the ideas the streaming giant is kicking around but that won’t stop us from poking fun at the more obvious “duh” features. Yes, it’s the gift that keeps giving… the Monster of the Week segment! We gathered the whole Grawlix Podcast and Grawlix Cinematic Universe crew around the smoldering yule log that is 2020 to discuss Holiday horror movies. It just seemed appropriate.

Melanie and Randy tag team a double feature of Black Christmas. Melanie first discusses the original 1974 proto-slasher before Randy gets out-SJW-ed by the 2019 “remake”. Jesse brings some levity with the 80s Christmas comedy classic Ernest Saves Christmas. Jasper follows up with a stocking stuffed with ultra-camp in the over-the-top horror comedy Santa’s Slay starring Bill Goldberg.

Finally, we stick a bow on the evening with a game! Randy finds the most ridiculous reviews of holiday classics from Letterboxd.com users for a few rounds of “guess the movie by the review.” Yeah, that’s a totally original, never before heard of game… we swear. Enjoy!

The monster of the week this episode is witches. It was by total coincidence that Randy mentioned the 1990 film, The Witches, a day before the trailer for the new HBO Max take on the film dropped.

So, Randy decided it was time to revisit 1990’s The Witches. Melanie dug up something interesting with The Autopsy of Jane Doe while Jesse ditched the horror and went Ghibli with Kiki’s Delivery Service.

The week’s entertainment news includes Netflix giving GLOW the axe despite being renewed (and filming!) and we finally get to see some footage of the animated Invincible series. Plus, Marvel looks to be embracing the cinematic multiverse, Disney ditches the theater chains in a big way with the new Pixar film, and more. Enjoy!

October is here and the monster-of-the-week segment continues. We kick our favorite month off with an odd choice of horror movie "monster" but also the most realistic... creepy neighbors. Or is our paranoia the real monster as we let our imaginations run wild with unfounded ideas of the what the neighbors are up to? I mean, what the hell is he building in there?

Well, since this episode we are discussing horror movies there is a good chance the neighbors are up to no good. They could vampires like in Randy's pick, the 1980's classic Fright Night. They could all be up to no good with some kind of plot like in Melanie's pick, the indie psychodrama that is 1BR. Or they could be Shia LaBeouf like in Jesse's pick, Disturbia.

Also, the week's entertainment news including the when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness filming is to start, a Borat sequel, and Halloween viewing available now on HBO Max and Disney+. Of course, that's not even close to all of it so enjoy!

Unlike last episode’s vampire theme, we each managed to find vastly different takes on ol’ green and stumbly. From a time travel tale involving John Hurt that ISN’T Doctor Who, actual Doctor Who, and 3d printed emo-Franks, we cover a VERY interesting grouping of stories.

We didn’t forget about the news and with DC FanDome happening the previous weekend we have a ton of movie trailers to react at. Jasper of Grawlix Cinematic Universe also joins us to discuss the new Justice League, The Batman, and The Suicide Squad trailers. Welcome, children of the night! Grawlix Nights, that is! On this episode we kick off our new, weekly monster examination. Each episode leading up to Halloween we’ll be discussing a different creepy creature, movie monster, or horror trope. This week, as the groan-worthy intro to this paragraph would infer, we are discussing vampires.

The blood-suckers in question happen to come to us by way of the Netflix animated Castlevania series, the Netflix and BBC Dracula series, and the classic 90’s sexy vamp flick, Interview With The Vampire. We’re still ironing out the kinks in this monster format but any excuse to raise the undead is good enough for us!

Of course, we didn’t forget about the news. We also discuss the potential return to the cowl for both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck, Randy and Jesse get geeky about royalty, and SynderWatch continues despite what seemed like a slow Justice League news week. This week we offer up some levity, a bit of seriousness, and a whole lot of recommendations on how we can fill our time as we remain homebound. LIST EPISODE! We run down our top picks of what’s streaming, what we’re watching, and what we’re excited about. Jasper even joins the show! Enjoy!

On a serious note, this is a scary and uncertain time. Fortunately, even with lockdowns and social distancing modern technology allows us to connect with others from the confines of our homes. Take advantage of free video conferencing and chat services if you are feeling lonely and need to talk to friends.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that this live stream is one of the only times all four of us have appeared on camera. Even through a webcam, face to face conversation can go a long way. This is one time in which we are all truly in this together.

We discuss two of his films, The Giant Spider (2013) and The Late Night Double Feature (2014). Get ready for giant arachnids, space aliens, and witches from Jupiter!

We became aware of his work when we interviewed him at OSFest 7 back in 2014. You can hear that interview in Grawlix Podcast #7: OSFest 7 Special. In fact, he may be the first person we ever interviewed for the podcast!
