Today we have a very special episode and interview with the mother of an intersex child. Dana is an incredible mom and incredible advocate for intersex people. It was a true honor to interview Dana and we hope that everyone learns as much as we did from her experience, her grace, and her love for her son. Just a quick note - this was the first episode we recorded remote and we had some internet lag issues. While we hope to interview Dana again, and in person, this time because of the internet issues when Dana is speaking you’ll mostly just hear her. Landon and I later recorded a bit more to share some thoughts we had after hearing Dana’s amazing story and learning from her advocacy. The Macdonald’s are amazing people who are leaders in the local community and amazing parents to a family full of incredible children, including their gay son. They work to support parents of LGBTQ+ individuals and are always creating loving and kind spaces for people to learn and grow together. As trans people, Landon and Michael have not had the experience of being cisgender, so this episode seeks to answer questions like, “What is being a cisgender person like?” While this may seem like a question with an obvious answer, it’s not an experience that we, your co-hosts have had, and we were thrilled to learn from two dear friends what their experience has been as cisgender people.

In today’s episode we have our first guest! Kado Stewart (He/They) is the Deputy Director of one•n•ten, a non-profit organization that provides social programs and supportive services for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults, ages 11-24 in Arizona. In his role, Kado builds community partnerships and oversees all programs and services at the organization. Key programs of one•n•ten include the POND Housing and Workforce programs, The Youth Center, 14 satellite locations across the state, Camp OUTdoors, Health and Wellness programs, the Trans and Non-Binary retreat and more. Kado has been creating safe and supportive spaces with and for LGBTQ+ youth in Arizona since 2008, when he founded Camp OUTdoors, one of the oldest and largest LGBTQ+ summer camp programs. Camp OUTdoors is now in its 16th year and has been featured on National Geographic and the camp team trains other camps on how to be inclusive & celebratory of LGBTQ+ campers. Kado is an American Camp Association Trained Camp Director, a Wilderness First Responder, an alum of Prescott College, an alum of the Leading for Change Fellowship, an alum the American Express Leadership Academy and alum of Americorps VISTA.
