This is why the Director-General of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre Salem Humaid AlMarri, stated that with Al Neyadi's return to Earth, the centre will study strategic plans to secure a seat on one of the space flights every 3 or 5 years.

Sharjah, city of minarets, is now home to more than 3000 mosques

The number of mosques in Sharjah, long celebrated as the City of Minarets, has now reached 3,092 spread across the length and breadth of the emirate. These include ancient heritage landmarks as well as modern mosques that have come to be recognised for their stunning engineering genius and architectural styles, ranging from Andalusian, Fatimid, and Mamluk to Ottoman, Moroccan and traditional Arabic ones. The latest figures from Sharjah’s Department of Statistics and Community Development show that the city of Sharjah, including Al Hamriyah and Abu Musa Island, now is home to 2,380 mosques while the Central and Eastern regions of the Emirate respectively boast 448 and 264 mosques. Guided by the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, Sharjah has ensured that every single part of the Emirate, feted as the Cultural Capital of the Arab and Islamic world, has a mosque to cater to the needs of the faithful. These mosques do not just serve as places of worship five times a day, all year around, but also work as centres of Islamic learning, knowledge and guidance for everyone. Sharjah’s mosques are distinguished for their grand architectural splendour, boasting distinct style of cavernous domes, pulpits, awe-inspiring arches and columns, complete with their charming calligraphic designs and complex and ornate inscriptions that celebrate the majesty and beauty of Islamic civilization and teachings.

Sharjah Waste to Energy Plant, creative project reducing emissions

The Sharjah Waste to Energy Plant, the first of its kind in the Middle East, has recorded a number of achievements since its inception in 2022. Sharjah Waste to Energy plant’s rate of waste treatment in the emirate reached 90% as the conversion of non-recyclable waste into clean electric energy connects 2,000 homes in Sharjah in the current period, while 28,000 homes will be linked soon . The Sharjah Waste to Energy Plant converts non-recyclable waste into energy, through the incineration process to turn waste into heat, which is used to operate an electric turbine, where the net generated electric power is about 27 megawatts, and it is distributed through the main electricity network in Sharjah. The plant appropriately treats the gas emitting from the process, as it releases to the air without any effect.

UOS, Global Research Pharmaceutical Company AbbVie sign MOU

With the aim of promoting and strengthening sustainable cooperation, the University of Sharjah signed a memorandum of understanding with the global, research, pharmaceutical company "AbbVie”, signed on behalf of the University of Sharjah by its Chancellor, His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, and on behalf of the company, His Excellency Hassan Sabbah, General Manager of AbbVie in the Gulf and Levent region. The agreement aims to enhance students' cognitive skills in various aspects of the pharmaceutical industry, including talent management, promoting research, development and knowledge exchange in the field of biopharmaceuticals, creating a pool of future talent for pharmaceutical companies through joint initiatives, as well as providing an opportunity for students to collaborate with the public and private sectors in the UAE to enhance their knowledge and skills in the pharmaceutical industry, including co-deployment and resource sharing, teaching, joint supervision, and curriculum development.

Al Qasimia University raises students awareness of first aid

Al Qasimia University continues its efforts to offer specific programmes to qualify students with the rules of public safety and preserve their health, especially in danger. In this regard, Al Qasimia Universityt organised a training workshop on "Community Readiness and First Aid". The workshop, which was held at the university’s headquarters within the activities of the summer camp “Our Summer is Happiness”, came within the framework of the objectives of the Dean’s Office for Student Affairs at Al Qasimia University, to qualify students and to raise their efficiency, for rapid response, first aid readiness, and direct intervention to prevent injury. The workshop was organised over two separate periods, the first for male students and the other for female students. The workshop had an intensified theoretical and practical contents to provide students with information, skills, modern methods of public safety, basic rules for first aid, raising students’ competence, and providing them with experiences and life skills that help them to act in emergency situations. The UAE, based on the directives of its wise leadership, and over more than five decades, has established itself as a key supporter of efforts to enhance global security and stability through its development programmes, humanitarian aid and initiatives aimed at the development of humanity and spreading the values of goodness and peace. To that end, the UAE has followed a clear path based on achieving prosperity and supporting growth in the countries of the world, based on the values and principles of giving, in addition to the country's experience and achievements across vital sectors. To achieve this, the UAE has provided many forms of support for global development projects, and has continued its active role in international organisations and institutions in order to achieve common aspirations. In this context, the UAE has actively contributed to supporting the Group of Five for the Sahel (G5 Sahel) in sub-Saharan Africa, which includes Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali and Niger. The UAE was, and still is, a reliable partner to the countries of the Sahel region by providing them with support in facing challenges through its continuous development aid. During the period from 2018 to 2023, the value of UAE foreign aid to the G5 Sahel countries amounted to US$750 million, which constitutes 3 percent of the country's total foreign aid during this period. About 75 percent of the UAE's foreign aid to the Sahel countries was provided in the form of development aid, while charitable and humanitarian aid accounted for 16 percent and 9 percent respectively. With the UAE’s pioneering efforts to support the G5 Sahel countries to achieve their development goals and objectives, the UAE's development aid contributes to mitigating the repercussions and effects of climate change, as well as facing the G5 Sahel countries’ economic challenges. In light of the report issued by the World Bank in 2022, the Sahel countries face many challenges, including severe drought, floods, and multiple repercussions associated with climate change. The report also indicated that estimation note to an increase in the region’s temperatures by 2 degrees Celsius by 2040, which requires more support and development aid. The World Bank highlighted the importance of meeting the needs of the G5 Sahel countries to enhance their response in facing climate challenges, and the importance of achieving “rapid, strong and inclusive” economic growth in this region to assist in “better adaptation to climate change.” The UAE’s relief and humanitarian work is a comprehensive institutional work carried out by over 43 official and civil bodies. The country’s humanitarian work is not limited to providing material assistance, but also extends to direct interaction and mobilising aid to crisis-affected areas. The UAE’s distinguished experience in the field of relief and humanitarian development work is based on continuity through the implementation of development projects that benefit the people of the beneficiary countries, such as building housing, hospitals, constructing roads, power stations and digging wells, which provides sustainable development support for basic resources based on effective contribution to improving living conditions in the affected countries.

MoHRE coordinates with delivery companies to provide 356 rest stations for workers

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) announced an initiative to provide 356 rest stations equipped with essential services for delivery drivers across the UAE. The initiative is implemented in coordination with private sector delivery companies with the support of relevant government entities. The Ministry said this initiative reflects a shared commitment to the safety and wellbeing of delivery workers, protecting them from heat exhaustion during the summer months, particularly around noon when a ban (Midday Break) on working under direct sunlight and in open areas is implemented from 12:30 to 15:00 from 15th June to 15th September. These efforts form part of the partnership and collaboration between MoHRE and delivery companies, such as Talabat, Deliveroo, Noon, Careem, InstaShop and other cloud kitchens and restaurants and delivery companies. The rest stations have been allocated across various parts of the UAE to be used by any delivery driver, who can locate all stations through the GPS location system. Mohsen Al Nassi, Assistant Under-Secretary for Inspection Affairs at MoHRE, said, “This initiative reflects the commitment of these delivery companies to social responsibility, as well as their awareness of the importance of complying with health and occupational safety requirements by providing workers a suitable working environment that mitigates risks.” He added, “The delivery sector is a key logistical sector with unique operations that require us to be ready, round-the-clock, to meet the needs of different segments of customers across the country. “We have engaged with delivery companies and coordinated with them to ensure the utmost comfort and safety standards for drivers. This, in turn, will enhance the sustainability and efficiency of this vital sector, enabling it to perform its essential services optimally while safeguarding the rights and safety of its workers.” The Midday Break requires employers to provide shaded areas for workers to rest during their break to protect them from direct sunlight; it also mandates employers to provide adequate cooling devices and sufficient drinking water. Public health and safety requirements should be maintained by providing hydrating materials, such as salts and other substances approved for use by the relevant local authorities in the UAE. They must also provide first aid at the work site. The real estate sector in Sharjah achieved a trading value amounted to AED 13.4 billion during the first half of 2023, with an increase of 19.2% compared to the same period last year. SAASST, MSU explores collaboration in research and space projects

UAE concludes second UN Security Council Presidency with 7 resolutions adopted

The United Arab Emirates concluded its second presidency of the United Nations Security Council with the adoption of seven resolutions, including a landmark resolution on Tolerance and International Peace and Security. The resolution on tolerance, co-penned by the UAE and the United Kingdom and unanimously adopted on 14th June, recognised for the first time that hate speech, racism, and extremism can drive the outbreak, escalation, and recurrence of conflict. In total, the Council produced 14 agreed upon outcomes during the UAE’s presidency, including seven resolutions, five press statements, and two press elements. During the second presidency of its 2022-2023 term on the Council, the UAE convened three signature events on its presidential priorities that brought the Council’s attention to vital issues relating to the maintenance of international peace and security. ‘Media Person of Future 7’ kicks off on July 10

The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has organised a "Knights of Humanity" event to honour the volunteers of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent in four Syrian provinces. It aimed to recognise the UAE's continuous humanitarian and relief efforts in alleviating the suffering of affected families following the earthquake that occurred on February 6. The Ruler of Sharjah approved the conservation of the captivating "Buried Village" in Al Madam

All we know is that the village of Al Madam also called “Buried Village” was constructed sometime around 1970. 34th International Biology Olympiad kicks off in Al Ain

Such international recognitions speak for the UAE economy's durability in the face of global geopolitical turmoil and adverse economic conditions, therefore verifying the success of the UAE leadership's forward-looking vision. “The UAE is poised for positive economic growth as it is projected to achieve a 3.6 percent increase in its gross domestic product this year, driven by robust domestic activity,” said the International Monetary Fund, recently.
