MSU's annual spring concert, brought to you by the University Activities Board(UAB), Residence Halls Association, Impact 89FM and Associated Students of MSU(ASMSU), is happening this Thursday, 04/02/2026 at the Breslin Center! See artists of all different genres and backgrounds, including headliner Briston Maroney, up close and personal at the Breslin Center. Concert Committee members Lauren Pelon(RHA President), Mikia Lawrence(RHA Chief Publicity Officer), Jovana Nagj(Impact 89FM Marketing Director), and Maggie Heflin(Impact 89FM Program Director), chat with Emelia Duffield about the logistical planning, communication with music artists, and lineup discussions the concert entails. Survivor Michigan State, a social club and competition that takes inspiration from the iconic series, is currently wrapping up its seventh season and will begin season eight in January. Exposure host Emelia Duffield chats with Survivor Michigan State president Kristian Chorkey about the casting process, production, and highly competitive nature of Survivor. The social aspect of the club combines competition and rivalry with bonding events and forming long-lasting friendships. Survivor Michigan State has competed against Survivor UofM in mini games, and there is even the opportunity to study abroad in Fiji while participating in Survivor-inspired challenges. Chorkey discusses the major challenge of discrepancy and keeping confidential challenges and information under wraps on a Big 10 campus. The LBGT Resource Center is a student-centered campus resource that works to celebrate, affirm, and empower LGBTQ+ members of the MSU community. Jesse Beal, the director, spoke with me about what the resource center is, what it does, and its goals for everyone involved and how it's being achieved. Through education, engagement, advocacy, and student support, the LBGTRC works to create an inclusive campus culture for people of all genders and sexual identities. Pride Month on campus has also recently ended, and they described how it usually is celebrated and how challenges had to be overcome due to COVID-19.

Game Development & Star Explosions on The Sci-Files

From coding to marketing and character design, MSU students are creating games. Each of these students talk about their involvement in the program, what games they are working on, and how this experience benefits their future career.

On The Sci-Files, Chelsie and Danny talk to Sara Ayoub about her research in the measurement of star explosion. Stars evolve and some heavy stars explode and die. Sara is working on a tool to help measure the nuclear fission that occurs within stars, so we can better understand and explain what astronauts see in the universe.

On The Sci-Files, researcher Claire Hoffman joined Chelsie and Daniel to talk about the conflict between African carnivores and livestock and their owners. Stephanie and George sat down with Dewey Longuski to talk about the new The Nashville Songwriters Association International chapter in Mid-Michigan. As an aid to songwriters, NSAI works to help musicians from any genre and provide a space to collaborate. NSAI’s last meeting of the semester is Apr. 13 at the MSU Community Music School.
A class at MSU where you can impact the lives of others! Yes, that does exist. Snares to Wares a nonprofit is partnered with MSU so students of different majors to participate in a project to prevent poaching by creating an alternate source of income for a community in East Africa. This year, art was the focus. To help support this project go to the RIV on Saturday morning (10 a.m. to 11 a.m.) on Apr. 13. They will also be displaying these magnificent sculptures this summer at the Detroit Zoo starting on May 8.
On The Sci-Files, Chelsie and Danny talk to Joel Soler about his research on light and its effects on the hippocampus, the center of the brain for learning and memory. For more information on this study, check out this article.

Spartan Support Network, Blueprints of Pangea & The Sci-Files

"I & You" at the Wharton Center, TEDxMSU & The Sci-Files

First, we spoke with Bert Goldstein, the director of I & You at the Wharton Center. The play focused on two high schoolers who work together on a project on Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass. As the play goes on, this unlikely pair, Caroline and Anthony, learn more about themselves in this coming of age story. The final showing of playwright Lauren Gunderson‘s play in East Lansing is today at the Wharton Center!

Up next, Stephanie is joined by fellow classmates to discuss their work on the TEDxMSU event on Mar. 27 from 6-9 p.m. in the Wharton Center. This year at Michigan State’s TED talk there will be nine speakers focusing on the theme of Catalyst. In this interview, you learn how these students worked together all semester to bring in some intriguing speakers. On The Sci-Files, Chelsie and Danny discuss plant cell walls and bioenergy with PhD student John Tran. Tran’s research explores how altering cell walls can improve the biofuel made from plants which could improve the field of bioenergy.

"Promethea in Prison" Pre-Show Discussion

On this week’s Exposure, your host Stephanie had an opportunity to talk to Bryan Doerries – the cofounder of Theater of War Productions and the art director for their latest production, “Promethea in Prison” – as well as Dominic Dupont, a volunteer with a personal attachment to the subject material.

Theater of War Productions has been putting on classic literature productions and leading a group discussion to tackle important social and political issues for the last decade. From classical Greek tragedies to more modern productions, various performers from film, theater and television band together to both entertain and educate audiences all while integrating the audience’s opinions. The company has partnered with many distinct organizations, veterans, prisons, universities, advocacy groups and more to create a safe place to talk about a variety of issues which are themes in the productions.

An Inside Look at the Spartan Marching Band Before the Redbox Bowl

A Cappella - Part 2

On this week's Exposure, your host, Stephanie Stapert, continues talking to MSU a cappella groups. WDBM brought in Spartan Dischords, Ladies First, and the collaborative group, Spartones. Listen to get to know them and their upcoming events!

Spartan Dischords is one of the all male a cappella groups. They hold tradition close while also being spontaneous and humorous. They perform at a variety of gigs including their upcoming concert Dischords on Ice on Dec. 7! You might even see them ice skating at this holiday performance. Ladies First, MSU's all female a cappella group. They are a supportive group of girls who sing songs that represent their values as people. The Spartones are a collaborative a cappella group comprised of members from other MSU a cappella groups. This supergroup performs in the summer at Acaopen. They are the heart of MSU a cappella and the whole community so keep an ear out for them! They're hoping to record their latest set soon, but for now, here it is!

A Cappella - Part 1

On this week’s Exposure, your host, Stephanie Stapert, talks to some of MSU’s a cappella groups. Following their performances at Accapalooza, WDBM brought each group into the station to discuss their group values & upcoming events, so that you can get to know them!

Stephanie’s first interaction with MSU a cappella was with the Accafellas, so of course this week’s episode starts with them. The Accafellas are one of the all male a cappella groups here on campus. They just performed this past weekend, but in case you missed it, they will be bringing holiday cheer on November 30. You can also find them on all social media @msuaccafellas and their music on most streaming services.

Up next is RCAHppella, the co-ed group that began in the Residential College of Arts and Humanities. They will be bringing the '70s back with their Groovyppella on November 15 in the Snyder Phillips Auditorium. You can find them on social media @msurcahppella and their music on YouTube.

To close this week’s show, State of Fifths a co-ed a cappella group that strives to include more people in the a cappella community since their origins in 2008. They will be at the Great Lakes A Cappella Showcase on December 1. You can find them on social media @StateOfFifths and their music on most streaming services.

The interview starts with Conor Lynch, the engineering director. Lynch produces all of his own music and recently released a new song! Up next is Andrew Younker, WDBM's senior staff editor. Younker is a part of the band Yay-High, a garage rock group that often performs here in Lansing. Younker also has music under his own name which has more of a dream pop vibe. He has a newer song, Cyber World. Ryan Malicsi works as our office manager, but he's also the lead guitarist in Hot Mulligan. Hot Mulligan is an emo pop-punk band that is on tour, performing their newer album Pilot.

All three of them will be performing Saturday, November 17 at Bingle Mansion! If you like what you've heard catch them at this event!

Last year, the report was called Spartans Will 360 and it showcased the work MSU professors and faculty were doing around the world. This year, the report was called Inside Out. It showcased the lives of 9 Michigan State students. A production team followed the students around for a full year as we began to understand what a Spartan life looks like. MSU Student Veteran Sees the Rehabilitation Power of Biking

MSU senior Logan Stark is not your typical student. He served as a Marine Sniper in 3 deployments, one of which was in Afghanistan. Since his return he has taken up biking as a way to mentally and physically heal from the war. In doing so, he discovered a way he could help fellow veterans rehabilitate through a program called Ride to Recovery. MSU Student to Bike Across America to Assist Affordable Housing Efforts

Michigan State University student Madeline Valentine has decided to bike across the country this summer. She will be participating in a ride with Bike & Build, which is an organization that uses biking as a way to fund and assist affordable housing efforts. Operation Freefall Sheds Light on Sexual Assault

People usually go sky-diving to experience the thrill and cross it off the bucket list. But, in 2001 a woman named Kelly Greene used skydiving as a tool to empower and overcome her past. She was sexually assaulted, but instead of fearing the anniversary of the assault, she decided to overcome another fear of hers: heights. Now, Michigan State University’s Sexual Assault Intervention Team is joining the initiative. Volunteers are raising money and some will even be jumping from an airplane. Russia President Vladimir Putin to Annex Crimea, Black Sea Peninsula

Russia President Vladimir Putin approved a draft bill that would annex the Black Sea Peninsula, bringing Crimea into the Russian Federation. This happened after an estimated 97 percent of Crimea voters supported a referendum for a union to Russia. While that number has questionable validity, the US and Europe don’t recognize the vote, saying that it was illegal. To fully understand the situation and its potential impacts, Exposure Host Abbie Newton invited Assistant Professor of the Department of History Matthew Pauly into the studio.
