Coming from somewhere outside the US, a woman did not let a man tell her what to do! The Dames recall an article about a woman whose fiancé used economics as a cover for his sexism. He gave her an ultimatum to either stay at home and let him work, or take a job. The Dames applaud her for taking the job and encourage women to never let a man hold them back.

Feminism + Millennials = ?
Is feminism pushing millennial women into college and careers? Is it also harming the institution of marriage? The Dames share an article that argues that feminism is having a harmful influence on millennials. The Dames get heated and argue whether millennial women are working, or choosing to stay home because they have to, or because they can.

It’s Getting Cold in Here
Are men more productive in cooler temperatures than women? According to a study they are. The Dames speculate if the temperatures in offices are changed to fit the preferences of men who typically wear slacks and long sleeve shirts to work. Is the setting of the temperature sexist in nature?

Robots, Sex Swings, and Uncomfortable Men

Siri and Alexa are popular robots but are the people building them sexist? The Dames conduct an experiment to see if Siri will answer them in a submissive voice that some argue is a trait that women have. This leads to the question is a gender bias built into the artificial intelligence of these robots?

The Button! Sexist Awards in Spain

This segment focuses on the participants of a squash competition in Spain. The female participants were awarded vibrators, and waxing and callus removal kits. The Dames speculate about what the equivalent prizes for men would have been, maybe a sex swing or shave kit? The squash competition participants argued for the change in the discrimination of women in the sport!

Male Ally: Random Twitter Guy

This man sent out many tweets highlighting gender politics and identity; pointing out that women have more patience than men and created hypotheticals about men enduring the sexism that women have for the past 240 years.

Men Feeling Uncomfortable

The Dames touch on a survey conducted among men managers. In this survey, 60% of the men managers said that they were uncomfortable working around women after prominent men have lost their jobs due to the “Me Too” movement, a 14% increase from the previous year. The Dames agree that men that aren’t getting fired for making off-color jokes, but rather for their actions.

Touching: Appropriate or Not?

Joe Biden’s habit of touching of hair and shoulders has the Dames talking (again) about physical contact. It is well known that physical touch is a human need, so The Dames pose the question: What does it mean for social interactions in the future that women often don’t want to be touched?

The Button: It’s The Sexism, Stupid

This week’s sexist talk is all about media coverage of women presidential candidates. Sadly, this topic is not going away anytime soon. However, the Dames point out that it is a circular problem: In order to get media coverage you have to be dominating the polls, but in order to dominate the polls you have to have media coverage. How can a woman succeed at both?

Beto Entitlement Bullshit

The Dames discuss a recent article in the Boston Globe titled “Woman’s Prayer”. The prayer is written from a woman’s perspective and describes each of the “notable” Democratic men running for office. It’s hilarious but sad.

Good Morning Washington Joins The Dames

This week, The Dames are joined by Autria Godfrey and Eileen Whelan from Good Morning Washington! Eileen has been a Meteorologist at Good Morning Washington for seven and a half years, while Autria has been a Reporter and Anchor for eight. The Dames and their guests discuss overall appearance on television and how male executives often determine what they should wear and how their hair and makeup should be styled. It leads to a conversation about men's tendency to ask women if they are "old enough" for their job, strictly based on appearance.
The four women explore a recent development: two women anchors on the desk of Good Morning Washington and other major news shows. While there has been uncertainty in the news industry about whether two women can hold their own, the guests and hosts agree: the biggest critics of women news anchors are often actually older women.

The Trail: Sexism Mixed with Ageism

A recent article by the New York Times identifies a difference between the coverage of men and women on the campaign trail are getting. Often, a woman is described as being either too young or too old to run for office, with no "perfect age". The Dames think the cards are stacked against women who enter the politicals, especially at the presidential level.

The Button this week is all about “Uncle” Joe Biden and his tendency to rub women's shoulders and touch their hair. The Dames discuss benevolent sexism - the idea of men patronizing women and creating highly uncomfortable situations. One of the Dames gets quite worked up on the idea of a man opening a door for a woman; is it a chivalrous act or demeaning?

Increased Sexism within the Marijuana Industry

Without advertising standards within the marijuana industry, many have turned to the old saying: “Sex Sells”. In states where pot is now recreationally legal know this and are using it to sell pot, but many do not know how to appropriately advertise towards women. With that comes a conversation between the Dames about men primarily being the “drug dealers” and the up-and-coming women within the industry.

The Button: Sexism and the Right of “No”

The Button segment this week is about a government official, Baudet from the Netherlands. He said that women "do not want you to respect their ‘no’, to respect their resistance. The reality is that women want to be overwhelmed, dominated, yes; want to be overpowered." The Dames have a strong opinion on Baudet’s sexist comments and the stance that he takes.

On Wall Street, #MeToo is often overshadowed by he-said, she-said situations. The Dames explore the workplace consequences of consensual and forced sexual relations. How do previous relationships fit into that grey area and what happens when those relationships end?

Finally, the Dames offer their two cents on the Kellyanne Conway - George Conway - Donald Trump love/hate triangle. They also discuss the amount of access women have in today's world but their inability to utilize it all due to varying constraints.

The Button this week stars a cycling race in Belgium and the assumption it took on its women athletes. The Dames get a chuckle at the fact a women cycler caught up to her men counterparts that started their race 10 minutes ahead of her. However, the Dames find great fault in the actions taken during the race by her doing so.

Finally, The Dames rave about a flux that is slowly taking place. In a world where a small amount of investor money goes to women entrepreneurs, there is a group of women investors that are looking to make a change. Anthony Weiner has been released from prison after just 15 months in. The Dames are all over this. Weiner was originally locked up for sexting various women, including a 15-year-old girl. The Dames question the severity of the punishment in comparison to the crime and they explore the balance between encouraging young girls to have a positive relationship with their body without influencing their mind.

The Oscars Broke Records
The Oscars broke records this year. A record number of women (15 total) won awards including the first African American woman to win in Costume Design. The Dames give praise to the overly positive speeches on behalf of the winners and agree that the Oscars had a different feel to them this year.

The Button: The Dames Discuss “Bitchy Bosses”
The Button in this week's episode revolves around the idea that women bosses are more bitchy. There is an expectation in the workplace that a woman should be a “doer” but with more empathy than their male counterparts. As a boss, if you aren’t friendly you come off as a bitch. The Dames start out at odds over this, but by the end of the discussion they agree that there is a difference in the way leadership is judged that is based on gender.

With a caring public persona and employees that have both loved her and disliked her, should her temperament overshadow her achievements? Is she a crazy lunatic or a caring individual? The Button: Girls’ Behavior at School
The Button takes place in the “school of real life” this week. Tracy’s recounts an experience her daughter recently had at school where she was disciplined for defending herself. The Dames agree that girls need to be given space to stand up and protect themselves, without facing repercussions for their actions.

Yet another man has been accused of sexual misconduct. This time it’s Virginia Lt. Governor, Justin Fairfax, with multiple accusations against him. He’s calling for due process because he believes all of the “encounters” were consensual. The Dames pose the question: Why is the first response to accusations not “I’m sorry, I thought it was consensual?” Is there arrogance behind a man who chooses to run politically knowing the incidents that have taken place in his past?

A Debate Over Pixar
Pixar launched a new short film, Pearl, about a woman (represented by a ball of pink yarn) who goes to work in a place where her colleagues are only white men. The short film is tackling the idea of toxic masculinity in the workplace. The Dames engage in an intense conversation as one of them (can you guess who?) has a very difficult time getting past the fact that a woman is represented by a ball of pink yarn.

The Button: Gender & Running for President
The Button in this episodes revolves around exploring the idea of sexism as a shield. The Dames explore how politics should be reported when there are more women than ever running for president. How does criticism work for topics that would normally be non-gendered? Will questions be asked of women candidates that wouldn’t of a man? The Dames decide this is not something that will be easily answered, but rather something that will be a continuous conversation for the next year and a half.

Criminal Justice Fail

A Victim Fights Back
The Dames dive into a highly publicized sexual assault case they believe was not handled properly by the courts. A D.C.-area woman was assaulted while on a run but the man who committed the crime got off with a misdemeanor charge, 10 days in jail (at his convenience), and probation. When the woman found out her attacker was not complying with his sentence, she took things into her own hands and publicized his behavior. The Dames examine how the criminal justice system failed her and the injustice surrounding the entire case.

Perceived Pain Between Girls & Boys
Gender bias beginning at an early age is the topic of The Button. A study conducted to determine how people perceive pain experienced by boys versus girls concluded that stereotypes begin at an early age. The Dames discuss (but don’t entirely agree on) what that means for gender bias.

Nevada Makes History
Way to go Nevada, the first state in US History to have women holding the majority in the state legislature! The Dames tip their hats to the Silver State, review the number of women serving in office, and what it could mean for the future of women in this country.

Intentionality is something that is lacking from elite law firms and new partner class. The Dames discuss how there is a lack of women partners in law firms and, when they do exist, they are given the generally “womanly” roles. Why can’t men plan cocktail parties?

NYC Restaurant Nello Cutting Back on Call Girls?
The Button this week revolves around a restaurant in New York that won’t allow women to sit alone at the bar in an effort to cut down on call girls in their establishment. Not surprisingly, The Dames do not agree with this sexist rule. Why is it automatically assumed that an attractive female sitting alone at a bar is an escort?

Kevin O’Brien Fired Amidst Sexual Harassment Allegations
The Dames examine the hiring process in politics after Bill DeBlasio aide Kevin O’Brien was fired from his position after it was revewaled he had sexually harassed women at previous jobs. The Dames admit that calls for references are lacking in the industry and many acquire jobs by word of mouth from friends. Kelly brings up intentionality and the lack of using it to break cycles.

The Dames start this episode on a high note. More women are entering the presidential race on the Democratic side, and that is grounds for some excitement and possible change. With more women entering the race, Kelly and Tracy argue that this could lead the presidential race to become a human choice versus a gender choice.

Female Family Members Leads to Conservatism?
This week’s Button is a puzzle for the Dames. New research shows having daughters makes men and women more Republican and having sisters makes men more conservative, sparking one crazy conversation. Interestingly, it goes from the idea that men’s ideologies are driven by the females in their lives, to the notion of “women and children first!” into lifeboats on a sinking ship, to aggression in young boys, and then it all circles back to a desire to protect. Whew!

Gillette Ad Sparks Internet Debate
Have you seen the newest Gillette Ad? The ad features various shots of men calling each other out to be better in terms of their sexist behavior. The ad ends with the text “It’s only by challenging ourselves to do more that we can get closer to our best.” Kelly and Tracy discuss the ad and the moral outrage that has surrounded it, leading Tracy to tell everyone to just “take a breath.”

She said, “We are going to impeach the motherfu@#$!.” Kelly argues that it’s sexism - a double standard for women. A man (Trump) has used the same language and gotten away with it. If you can’t beat him, might as well join him, right? Tracy thinks that Talib has tarnished all the achievements that came with her election to office. Get yourself some popcorn; the discussion gets heated and entertaining.

A Keira Knightly quote has Kelly and Tracy talking about the male anatomy. An interesting discussion ensues out of the idea that penises are convenient. It leads the Dames to pose some questions and attempt to answer them; Why is a name given to masculine girls? Why are women told what it is to be female? Is men’s sexuality more understood than women's?

Harvey Weinstein’s newest move in the courts to get a sexual assault case dismissed kicks off the Dames’ disagreement. Tracy poses the question that if people f*@# up do we allow them to change and come back to function in society? Kelly is quick to suggest that their place in society should be limited to a host position at TGIF.

Things continue to get heated when they talk about the classic (misogynist?) holiday song, “Baby It’s Cold Outside.” What is the true meaning behind the song; is it about a girl just wanting to get laid or a man trying the rape her? For Tracy the answer is black and white, while for Kelly it is a very, very gray world we live in.

Tracy’s New Year’s Resolution is to care less and Kelly wants to hustle harder and love harder. The Dames take next week off. See you next year!

We Feel Pretty, Oh So Pretty

The Dames are at odds over an article in Politico Magazine about what it’s like to be a female political consultant. Tracy argues against its anecdotal bias and “whiney” sound of the article, while Kelly’s stance is that it has to be anecdotal—it’s women’s stories, after all. Tracy gets sensitive (for a change) as the Dames discuss different aspects of the business that historically, has been primarily male-based. Is that fact based on sexism or a lack of women helping women? One thing our Dames agree on is the game needs to change!

Tying into the previous topic, Kelly introduces an article that Steph Curry wrote discussing how men and dads need to step up for women and join the fight for women’s equality. Kelly and Tracy discuss the gender roles in their households. They pose a strong question, how do we achieve diverse voices in this day and age?

Women Are Equal But Not Equal

Women can do anything men can do, including trek across Antarctica. The Ice Maiden team, six women from the British army, did just that.

The Button! surfaced sexism by the Chicago Tribune regarding one of the five women running to be mayor of Chicago. The social media headline on a piece about Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza read, "If Boss Madigan and Rahm Emanuel conceived a daughter, she’d be Susana Mendoza." As Chicago Sun-Times columnist Laura Washington puts it, "To portray an accomplished, savvy woman with 20 years in politics as the Frankenstein monster love child of two men is as sexist as it gets."

This leads to a larger discussion: Even though times are changing, some men still credit women's successes to the men they've known and compare everything women do to how a man would do it. As evidence, Kelly shares the story about a progressive man who couldn't seem to speak of a colleague in anything but pronouns and asks the question, "Is a deeply internalized sexism bubbling to the surface now that overt sexism is shamed?"

Women can do anything men can do, but research shows women get far more stressed about doing anything, even when they don't have to. Luckily, there are ways for women to manage stress (besides booze and Xanax) that will improve relationships at work and at home.

Delgado was abruptly fired from her job at a pro-Trump PAC last month and has started a GoFundMe campaign to help cover legal and other bills while she engages in a custody battle with Miller, who has decided his child should not be raised by "a single mother". What a motherf*cker!

The Department of Defense spent $6.8 million on "Paid Patriotism" at sporting events, including giant flags on the field and tributes to the military. Tracy and Kelly have a thing or two to say about using taxpayer dollars for that, and you might be surprised by their reactions.

Crazy Shit People Say: Jazmina Saavedra, a Republican candidate for Congress from California, live-streamed a video of herself confronting a transgender woman inside a bathroom in Denny's. She complained that her "privacy" was being invaded by the transgender woman using a toilet stall, announced that she had pepper spray, and even involved a restaurant manager. Apparently, the irony of live-streaming video from inside a bathroom because you think someone else using the toilet is invading your privacy was completely lost on her.
