Joshua 22 tells the story of an almost ciivil that comes right on the heels of great, significant victories for the nation as a whole. Israel (having never been known for having consistent faithfulness or powerful qualified leader from one generation to the next) exhibits great weakness in our text. It may just be Israel being Israel, but it really was so much more than that.   Do you jump to conclusions and hold others in suspicion? Wayne welcomes Brennan Hooper on this week’s episode and they explore these questions. Using Exodus 18 and the relationship between Moses and Jethro (his father-in-law) as a backdrop the discussion centers around the value of advice and the need for humility to accept advice when it is given. Jethro plainly tells Moses, “you cannot do it alone” (Exodus 18:18). As Brennan points out, Jethro’s wording is reminiscent of God’s reaction to Adam’s position before the creation of Eve (Genesis 2:18).
