It Is Hard To Be In Charge - Admonition 346

Ephesians 6:9 | And now Admonition.

You know it's hard sometimes. It's hard sometimes to be in charge of others and not show partiality, to not show respect of persons, to not place one person over someone else, simply because you like them better. But that's our responsibility, to live without partiality, to judge righteously.

Paul writes to the church at Ephesus in Ephesians chapter six in verse nine, And you masters do the same things to them, giving up threatening, knowing that your own master also is in heaven, and there is no partiality with him. We are to be just and righteous and our judgment just and righteous because God in heaven is just and righteous.

Masters have a Master - Admonition 345

Ephesians 6:9 | And now Admonition.

In Ephesians chapter six, verse nine, we read, And you masters do the same things to them. What, what, what's he talking about? He's instructed the slaves. He's instructed the bondservants. You serve your master as if you're serving Christ. And now he says to these masters, the, these individuals who own other men, he says you do the same thing to them.

No matter the status of someone in this life, no matter their greatness or their lowliness, no matter where their position is, ultimately, they're all to be servants of God. The greatest King to have ever lived and reigned on a throne on this earth still had one who was greater than him. God. So then masters, how are you treating those who are around you?

Under-recognized? - Admonition 344

Ephesians 6:7 | And now Admonition.

Are you under-recognized? Do you go to work and you're there and you just wish your boss would recognize you for the job that you do? Paul writes in Ephesians chapter six, Knowing that whatever good anyone does, he will receive the same from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free.

Paul makes it clear, no matter what your master, your boss, your employer might say about you in this life, God knows what you've done, and God will reward good that is done no matter what anyone else thinks.

When No One Is Watching - Admonition 343

Ephesians 6:7 | And now Admonition.

One of the greatest struggles as a parent is to teach a child to do what's right, even when no one else is looking. Even when you're not watching them, even when you're not observing them, and they know you can't see them; they still need to be taught to do what's right, even then. Paul writes in Ephesians chapter five or chapter six and verse seven With goodwill doing service.

So he tells these bondservants, you obey your masters as if you're obeying God, as if you're obeying Christ, not with eye service as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ with goodwill, doing service as to the Lord and not to men. We need to teach our children and raise them up, that they always serve their masters no matter who they might be as if they're serving God, knowing that they're always serving God.

How Do You Serve Others? - Admonition 342

How do you serve others? Specifically, how do you serve your employer or your master in life? Paul writes in Ephesians chapter six, and in verse five, Bondservants be obedient to those who are your masters, according to the flesh, verse six, not with eye service as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ doing the will of God from the heart.

Serve them, not to be seen by them, but knowing that your Father in heaven, who sees all, sees you every second of the day. Who do you serve in this life?

A Free Slave - Admonition 341

Ephesians 6:5 | And now Admonition.

Can you be a slave and a free person all at the same time? Well, Paul says you can. Paul says in Ephesians chapter six and in verse five, Bondservants be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling and sincerity of heart, as to Christ.

These Christians were free from death. They were free from the servitude of sin. They had become slaves to righteousness. They were servants of Christ, but they were still slaves, bondservants in the flesh. And they still had a responsibility to their masters in the flesh, but they had a greater responsibility to Jesus Christ. We need to be those who understand that no matter our station in life, we are free to serve our God

I'm Free. Are You? - Admonition 340

Ephesians 6:5 | And now Admonition.

I'm free. How about you? As a Christian, I'm free. I am not a slave. I am not a bond servant. I am not encumbered or responsible to anyone to obey them over God. But as a Christian, I'm still a person and I still have a responsibility to live in this life in whatever place, position, or status I find myself. And as a Christian, I have a responsibility to serve those who are over me in a physical sense.

So Paul writes to the church at Ephesus in Ephesians chapter six, verse five, Bond servants, be obedient to those who are your masters, according to the flesh with fear and trembling in sincerity of heart as to Christ. Oh, I'm free, but I'm still responsible to those in this flesh to be obedient to those who are over me as if I were obeying Christ Himself.

Are They Too Old? - Admonition 339

At what age, should a father stop teaching his children? That's kind of a trick question because in Ephesians chapter six, we read in verse two that we are to honor our father and mother, which is the first commandment with promise. Then we read in verse four, And you fathers do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

Question? At what age should children stop honoring their parents? As long as their parents are alive, they are to honor them. At what age should fathers stop training and admonishing their children? So long as their children are alive to be taught. Fathers, stay involved in the life of your child, especially their spiritual life.

Fathers, How Do You Treat Your Children? - Admonition 338

Fathers, how do you treat your children? I pray that you treat them in such a way to provoke them to love and to good works, and not to wrath. In Ephesians chapter six in verse four, we read, And you fathers do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

We are to take our children and their lives, and we are to mold them and develop them into servants of God. Fathers, how are you treating your children, no matter their age.

Actions Have Consequences - Admonition 337

Ephesians 6:1-3 | And now Admonition.

Are there consequences on this earth for the choices we make? Why, absolutely there are. One example of this is found in Ephesians chapter six, verses one through three. In Ephesians chapter six, verse one, Paul tells those who is he's writing to Children, obey your parents. Verse two, he says, Honor, your father and your mother.

And verse three, he says, That it may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth. This was a promise of God from the Old Testament that Paul says is equally true in the New Testament that honoring and obeying your parents is fundamental to your existence. As long as they are serving the Lord, and as long as they are instructing you in the path of righteousness, that will cause you to be prosperous, to be well, to do well. Understand, choices have consequences.

What Does Honor Really Mean? - Admonition 336

Ephesians 6:1 | And now Admonition.

What does it mean to honor your father and your mother? In Ephesians chapter six, and in verse one, we read, Children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. Verse two says, Honor, your father and your mother, which is the first commandment with promise.

One of the examples of understanding this is given when Jesus tells the Jews, they were not honoring their parents as they ought, because they were not providing for them in their old age. We need to be sure to honor our parents, which includes providing for them when they're old. Do you honor your parents? I hope you do.

Obeying Your Parents is Obeying God - Admonition 335

In Ephesians chapter six, and in verse one, Paul writes to the church at Ephesus and says, Children obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. Children are to be expected to obey their parents, whenever their parents are instructing them in accordance with the word of God. We need to make sure that we teach our children, that when they respect and obey their parents, they're not just obeying their parents, but they're obeying their heavenly Father as well.

Your Attitude Toward Your Parents - Admonition 334

There's a question in our society here in America, that's not a very favorable question. In Ephesians chapter five, you could ask the question, Do wives really have to submit to their husbands? Well, the answer's yes. Ephesians chapter five, verse 22 says wives submit to your own husbands as to the Lord.

What's Wrong With Drinking? - Admonition 329

What's wrong with getting drunk? What's wrong with just having a good time? One thing that I know is wrong with it is what we read in Ephesians chapter five. Ephesians chapter five, verse 17 and 18, therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is and do not be drunk with wine in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit.

Submitting To One Another In The Fear Of God - Admonition 328

What does it mean when Paul says in Ephesians chapter five verse 21, that we are to be submitting to one another in the fear of God? It means that we're going to take our correct role and function inside that role, as God has told us to. He will use that example to talk about wives being submissive to husband. He will use that example to talk about children being submissive to parents and servants being submissive to masters.

There are some things in our lives that just shouldn't exist. There are some choices that we just shouldn't make, and among those is this.

Paul says in Ephesians, chapter five, verse 18, when he says, I want you to understand the will of God, he says, You can't do that and be drunk.

He says, Do not be drunk with wine in which is dissipation but be filled with the Spirit. Are you filling your life with alcohol or the Spirit of God?

What Happens When Two People Marry? - Admonition 323

What happens in the life of a man and a woman when they get married? We read in Ephesians, chapter five, For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.

They come together and they become one person, not two separate people. Just the same way that a sinner who becomes a Christian is added to the body of Christ. He becomes one with Christ.

We don't hate ourselves, or at least we shouldn't. We ought to love ourselves, but we ought to love those who are close to us, those who are our spouses, as much as we love ourselves.

Christ did this for the church. He loved it so much, He died for it. Do you love your spouse as much as you love yourself?

What kind of church does Christ want? What kind of congregation does Christ want your church to be?

In Ephesians, chapter five, we read that he wants a church that's submissive as a wife is to a husband. He wants a church that is glorious.

He wants a church that is without spot or wrinkle, verse 27, or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. Christ wants a church that's been washed in the blood, and that's holy and sanctified.

But, we also read the second reason that he might present her to himself a glorious church. Does that describe your church?

Does that describe the group of people that you belong to? A glorious church presented to Christ and submissive to him.

Paul says, you want to understand the will of God, stay away from alcohol.

We read in Ephesians chapter five, verse 24, Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

Wives, this is not the husband's responsibility to force upon you. It is your responsibility to do so the same way you submit to Christ, to be submissive as you submit to Christ.

When we sing, one of the things that we ought to be doing is giving thanks to God and praising Him.

When you look at your church, are you seeing things where, they're saying, I know that's what Christ said, I know that's what the Bible says, but that's not what you have to do? Is your church submitting to Christ?

How should a Christian live? He should live in a way that's kind.

He should live in a way that's forgiving. He should live in a way that's loving. He should live in a way that's sacrificing.

All of these things, Paul says in Ephesians chapter five, but he should also live in a way that is submissive.

Paul says in Ephesians chapter five, verse 21, Submitting to one another, those are Christians, to one another, in the fear of God. Humble yourself before your brethren and submit to one another.

What should we do in song? What should we do when we're singing? Paul says. We are to be speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody and our heart to the Lord.

But then he says this, we are to be giving thanks always for all things to God, the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. When you're singing, may I encourage you, sing songs of thanksgiving.

Bring the Light of Christ - Admonition 310

Ephesians 5:13-14 But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore He says: "Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light."
Transcript:
When people live in a way that's evil, and when they do things that they want to keep secret, what should you do if you're observing this? You want to bring the light of Christ into the situation.

We read in Ephesians chapter five, Verse 13. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore, he says, awake, you who sleep arise from the dead and Christ will give you light.

Wake up! Live is a Christian! Shine the light of Christ.

Done By Them In Secret - Admonition 309

Transcript:
When people live in a way where they want to keep the things that they're doing a secret, that's a good indicator that you don't need to be around them.
In Ephesians, chapter five, verse 11, Paul says, And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.
There are people doing things in secret that Christians have no business being involved in. Stay away from them.

Don't Tell MOM! - Admonition 308

Have you ever heard the phrase when you were growing up: Don't tell Mom?

I know myself and my brothers, we sometimes said that. We didn't want one of the other brothers to rat us out.

But, Paul says that we ought to live differently than that. Paul says, in Ephesians chapter five, verse 11, And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.

When someone's doing something that's truly wrong, shine light on it, speak the truth and expose error.

How Do You Interact With Those Doing Evil? - Admonition 307

How should you interact with people who are doing what's wrong?

I'm not talking about every moment of every day, every time you see someone doing what's wrong, but generally speaking.

How do you interact with the people who are doing wrong things around you and encouraging you to do them as well?

Paul says, in Ephesians chapter five, verse 11, And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather expose them.

Don't cover up other people's wrongdoing. Shine the light of God today.

What Is Acceptable - Admonition 306

Ephesians 5:10 …finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.

Transcript:
Is God okay with whatever you want to do? What I mean by that is, are there things that are acceptable and unacceptable before God? Well, yes, there certainly are.

In Ephesians, chapter five, we read about the things in verse six for which God brings His wrath upon the sons of disobedience.

But then we read in verse 10 that we ought to be finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.

We need to be looking in our lives and in God's word for what is acceptable to God and then implementing that in our lives today.

Would Your Life Be Better Today? - Admonition 305

Transcript:

In all the things that God says about how we are to live, remember that He gives us things that help us. Think about how your life would change if you filled your life with these things.

The things called the fruit of the spirit. They're called goodness and righteousness. They're called truth, Ephesians chapter five, verse nine.

If you filled your life with goodness and righteousness and truth, would your life be better than it is today?

3 Ways We Should Walk - Admonition 304

Eph 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.
Eph 5:8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
Eph 5:15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,

And now, Admonition, brought to you by the Collierville Church of Christ.

How should we walk? That's a question we've discussed before, but Paul mentions three ways in Ephesians, Chapter five that we should walk.

Number one, he says, Walk in love because Christ loved you. Number two, he says, Walk as children of light, living the way God would have you.

And number three, he says, Walk, circumspectly, verse 15, Not as fools, but as wise. How are you walking today?

Say, no, and live the life of a Christian.

What Kind of Words Sway You? - Admonition 301

Ephesians 5:6 - Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

Transcript:

What kind of words does a person use when they're trying to convince you that you can do things God says you shouldn't do?

Well, Paul says in Ephesians, Chapter five and in Verse six that those kinds of words are empty.

He says, Let no one deceive you with empty words For because of these things, the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

He says, when someone tries to convince you that you can do things and live in such a way, God has said not to, their words are empty; they have no authority. Are you being swayed with empty words?

It's Just A Joke... Right? - Admonition 300

Ephesians 5:3-4 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.

Transcript:

Is there anything wrong with telling jokes that are coarse or crass?

Is there anything wrong with saying something that it's funny, right? Paul writes the Church at Ephesus and he says,

Neither filthiness nor foolish talking nor coarse jesting. Those are not to be the things that come out of a Christian's mouth, but rather giving of thanks.

Speak those things that lift people up to God instead of taking them down to hell.

Why God's Wrath Comes Upon Men - Admonition 299

Ephesians 5:5-6 For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

For what things does God's wrath come upon men?

We read in Ephesians chapter five: For this, you know that no fornicator, unclean person nor covetous man who is an idolater has any inheritance in the kingdom of God and Christ.

Let no one deceive you with empty words. For because of these things, the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

Are these things that will bring God's wrath upon you in your life? If so, change them and repent today.

Coveteousness Is Not Fitting For Saints - Admonition 298

Ephesians 5:3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;

Transcript:

What things are fitting for a Saint to be doing? That is, in what way will a sanctified person, who's righteous before God, live? He will live in a way that is good and kind, caring, imitating God in his relationships with others.

But he won't live a life filled with covetousness. He won't live a life filled with desiring what belongs to someone else.

Fornication Is Not Fitting for Saints - Admonition 297

Ephesians 5:3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;

Transcript:

What things in our lives are not fitting for sanctified people, or as the New Testament refers to them, saints?

One thing that's not fitting for a saint is committing fornication. Committing fornication is having sexual interactions with someone who you have no right to be with because you're not married to them.

We ought to keep our lives pure and holy before God. And fornication has no part in the life of a Christian.

Do you have an inheritance? I hope you do. I hope you have an inheritance that matters above all riches and all earthly possessions, and that's an inheritance with Christ.

For we read this verse five of Ephesians five, For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

Things You Don't Do As An Imitator of God - Admonition 295

When you consider how to imitate God because Paul says in Ephesians, chapter five, verse one to be imitators of God as dear children.

When you consider how to imitate God, here are some things you don't do. You do not commit fornication. Verse three. You do not allow covetousness and unclean this in your life. You do not do those things which are not fitting for a Christian to do.

If you're a Christian, have you ever considered what Christ has done for you?

In the end of Ephesians chapter four and the beginning of chapter five, we read that Christ has forgiven you -- that is, God did it through Christ -- But then also, that's true because Christ loved us and gave himself for us as an offering to God.

We ought to love one another. We ought to forgive one another because Christ has offered himself for us.

What Has Christ Done For You? - Admonition 293

What has Christ done for you? Well, I know one thing he's done for you, whether you want to agree with it or not.

Christ offered himself for you. Ephesians chapter 5 verse 2 says,

As Christ also has loved us and given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

Christ died for you. Now, what are you going to do with that information today?

Be Imitators Of God As Dear Children - Admonition 291

Transcript:

Paul calls upon Christians to think about their relationship with God and then to imitate God as children.

In Ephesians chapter five verse one we read, Therefore be imitators of God as dear children... Look at how God has done things and do them the same way.

How Should We Treat Other People? - Admonition 290

Ephesians 4:32 - And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.

How should we treat other people?

It's sometimes hard to determine the right choice and how to interact with people. But one thing I know we should do, we should treat them as God treats us. That is to say, we should be kind to them and we should forgive when people do us wrong

God in Christ has forgiven us. Ephesians, Chapter four, Verse 32 we ought to be kind and forgive others

Things You Don't Need In Your Life - Admonition 289

What are a few things you need to get out of your life? For some, they fall into the category of those that Paul was speaking to as he wrote Ephesians Chapter four verse 31.

Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.

These things, Paul says, you don't need in your life. So let's begin getting rid of those out of our lives today.

Are You Sealed By The Holy Spirit? - Admonition 288

Ephesians 4:30 - And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Transcript:

Are you sealed with the Holy Spirit? Paul says in Ephesians Chapter four, Verse 30. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Paul says that the part of the work of the Holy Spirit is to seal you. That's the idea of a signet ring and hot wax to put a seal on something, and the Holy Spirit claims you belong to God, if you're a Christian -- if you have obeyed the gospel.

Have you obeyed the Gospel and put Christ on in Baptism today?

Sealed For The Day of Redemption - Admonition 287

Transcript:

Ephesians Chapter four, Verse 30 says. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

There's a day that I'm looking forward to. It's the day of redemption where God will redeem back all those who are faithful to him, and we will live with him for eternity. Are you ready for that day?

Are You Grieving the Holy Spirit? - Admonition 286

Are you grieving the Holy Spirit? Are you participating in things in your life that would grieve the one who's signifying you as a Christian?

Notice Paul has said in Ephesians, Chapter four, Do not be angry. Do not allow your anger to control you. Do not lie, but speak the truth. Do not let corrupt words proceed out of your mouth.

Are you grieving the Holy Spirit in these ways? If so, I hope you'll change beginning today.

Good For Necessary Edification - Admonition 285

Ephesians 4:29 - Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

Transcript:

When we think about the words and the things that we ought to say, consider that we ought to speak words that build people up. That's not to say there's not times to correct people, there certainly are, but we ought to speak words that are good for edification. We ought to help people learn how to love God and serve him better,

Paul says in Ephesians 4:29. Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth. But what is good for necessary edification that it may impart grace to the hearers.

Speak words that connect people to God.

Let No Corrupt Communication Come Out - Admonition 284

Ephesians 4:29 - Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

Transcript:

When you think about how you live and how we are to live as Christians, if you're a Christian, Paul says this to you in Ephesians four verse 29: Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification?

What Paul's saying there is, don't allow your words that you speak to be those that influence people to do evil. Don't allow your words to become those things that create corruption in other people's lives. Think about that today.

How do you feel about the thoughts and word of God? I know how David felt David. David wrote in Psalms 139,

How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!

David knew how precious God's word, God's thoughts, were, and he wanted them to be a part of his life.

What about you? Are God's thoughts precious to you, or something you show disdain toward? How are you living before God today?

Who Were You Before Your Birth? - Admonition 282

Who were you before you were born? I'm not saying that you lived a past life or you've been reincarnated or anything like that. I'm asking, were you "you" before you were born?

David writes in Psalms 139,

Deeds Done in the Dark - Admonition 281

We read in John that Jesus says men desire to do their deeds in the dark because their deeds are evil. But they failed to recognize that they can't hide their deeds from God.

David writes this in Psalms 139, If I say surely the darkness shall fall on me. Even the night shall be light about me. Indeed, The darkness shall not hide from you, but the night shines as the day. The darkness and the light are both alike to you.

God knows your deeds. Whether done in the light or done in the dark. God knows your deeds.

Is God's Hand Leading You? - Admonition 280

When David writes in Psalms 139 concerning the fact that he could not escape the presence of God (though he didn't want to) He also says this:

If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there, your hand shall lead me and your right hand shall hold me.

Let us be those who, like David, want God to guide our lives. Let us be those who, like David, want God to lead our paths. And let us look to His word to live as he desires for us to live.

Can You Escape God? - Admonition 279

David Felt Trapped - Admonition 278

Have you ever felt trapped? David did. Psalm 139, he says, You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me.

That may sound like a bad thing. That may sound like David's not too happy about the situation, but it's the exact opposite because David felt confined or trapped into righteousness. David said God was protecting him and hedging him in and had his hand on him.

You might feel trapped by others, but you ought to feel protected when the Lord keeps you in the path of righteousness.

What Does God Know About You? - Admonition 277

Be sure to be right before God. Love him and obey him, for he knows you.

God, just like with David, knows you. The question is, do you know Him?

What Causes You to Rejoice? - Admonition 274

What should cause your heart to rejoice?

What should cause you to be happy? What should cause you to know that there's value and purpose in life?

David says it's seeking The Lord in first Chronicles Chapter 16, we read,

Glory in his name (verse 10) Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord.

Seek God and rejoice in your heart today.

In Ephesians, chapter five, we're commanded to sing psalms and hymns and to encourage one another and to give thanks to the Lord.

David does that in first Chronicles Chapter 16 where we read

Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon his name. Make known His deeds among the peoples. sing to Him, Sing Psalms to Him, talk of all His wondrous works.

We need to be thanksgiving people. We need to be those who are thankful to God and recognize all His wonderful deeds that He's done for us.

The Proper Order - Admonition 272

1 Chronicles 15:12-13 - He said to them, You are the heads of the fathers' houses of the Levites; sanctify yourselves, you and your brethren, that you may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel to the place I have prepared for it. For because you did not do it the first time, the LORD our God broke out against us, because we did not consult Him about the proper order.

It's so very important to make sure that we do things the way God has commanded us to do them in our worship and in our service, in our lives and in our homes.

David found that out the hard way and Uzzah died, but we read in first chronicles chapter 15, You are the heads of the fathers' houses of the Levites; sanctify yourselves, you and your brethren, that you may bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel to the place I have prepared for it. No One May Carry The Ark - Admonition 271

1 Chronicles 15:2 Then David said, "No one may carry the ark of God but the Levites, for the LORD has chosen them to carry the ark of God and to minister before Him forever."

In 1Chronicles 15, we read, Then David said, no one may carry the ark of God, but the Levites for the Lord has chosen them to carry the ark of God and to minister before him forever.

David makes this declaration, but it really wasn't David's choice. David found out the hard way (by trying to transport the ark on a cart and costing Uzzah his life) he found out the hard way that God had already commanded how it was supposed to be done.

David here declares what God had already said.

You do it my way, God says, or don't do it at all.

Do Things God's Way - Admonition 270

Your First Step When in Danger - Admonition 269

Will You deliver them into my hand?" And the LORD said to David, "Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand."

And now admonition brought to you by the Collierville Church of Christ. What should you do when you're in danger? What should you do when you're afraid of what someone else might do to you?

May I encourage you, begin by praying. When David is threatened by the Philistines in 2 Samuel chapter five, we read.

So David inquired of the Lord saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand? And the Lord said to David, Go up for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand.

Though our relationship with Lord is different today than it was in David's day, David inquired with Lord David sought the Lord's help. Do that for yourself when you're in danger.

Taunting People Is A Dangerous Thing - Admonition 268

2 Samuel 5:6 And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who spoke to David, saying, "You shall not come in here; but the blind and the lame will repel you," thinking, "David cannot come in here."

Taunting people is a dangerous thing. Some men from the Jebusites decided to taunt David, they said, Our blind and our lame in our city of Jerusalem could keep you back from coming into our city.

They thought they were well defended. They thought they were Impenetrable. They thought even their blind and their lame could stop David. But David will put the challenge to his army and to the one who retains that challenge and defeats the city, he says, I'll make you chief and captain over the Army.

Well, Joab will do exactly that because the people taunted David. David was determined to overthrow them, and he did.

Assumptions Can Be Dangerous - Admonition 267

2 Samuel 4:9-11 But David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, "As the LORD lives, who has redeemed my life from all adversity, when someone told me, saying, 'Look, Saul is dead,' thinking to have brought good news, I arrested him and had him executed in Ziklag-the one who thought I would give him a reward for his news. How much more, when wicked men have killed a righteous person in his own house on his bed? Therefore, shall I not now require his blood at your hand and remove you from the earth?"

Assumptions are a dangerous thing. In Second Samuel Chapter 4, two men kill Saul's son who has taken the throne of Israel, and they bring his head to David thinking because he's David's enemy, David will reward them. They assumed wrong. We read in second Samuel, Chapter four,

As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my life from all adversity. When someone told me saying, Look, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good news, I arrested him and had him executed in Ziklag, the one who thought I would give him a reward for his news.

How much more when wicked men have killed a righteous person in his own house on his own bed. Therefore, shall I now require his blood at your hand and remove you from the earth?

Assumptions caused these two men to die. Be careful of your assumptions.

When You Cannot Get Justice - Admonition 266

2 Samuel 3:39 - And I am weak today, though anointed king; and these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too harsh for me. The LORD shall repay the evildoer according to his wickedness.

What do you do when you can't get justice from the law? David found himself in this situation in second Samuel Chapter three, where his commander of his army kills another man without any authority to do so.
But it seems as though the law didn't have a solution for the problem. Maybe because there weren't witnesses.
So, David, who knows who is guilty will say this, The Lord shall repay the evildoer according to his wickedness.
Sometimes men's laws won't provide us justice. But there's one righteous judge who always will. Trust in the Lord.

Following Someone To Do Evil - Admonition 265

2 Samuel 2:8-10 - But Abner the son of Ner, commander of Saul's army, took Ishbosheth the son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim; and he made him king over Gilead, over the Ashurites, over Jezreel, over Ephraim, over Benjamin, and over all Israel. Ishbosheth, Saul's son, was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and he reigned two years. Only the house of Judah followed David.

There's a lesson in the Old Testament about following the influence of a person to do evil. Ishbosheth is one who is one of the sons of Saul, and at age forty he will become king over Israel when Saul dies. But how did he become king?

He became king because one of the commanders of Saul's army, Abner, made him king. He followed Abner's influence to do something that was wrong. Abner had no authority to make him king, and he'll reign as king over Israel for two years and then he'll be murdered.

He lost his life because he followed someone in their evil deeds.

Usurping God's Authority - Admonition 264

2 Samuel 2:8-9 - But Abner the son of Ner, commander of Saul's army, took Ishbosheth the son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim; and he made him king over Gilead, over the Ashurites, over Jezreel, over Ephraim, over Benjamin, and over all Israel.

What does it mean to usurp the authority of God? It means that when God has made a choice, or God has given a commandment, or God has told us what to do, and then we replace His commandment with our own decisions, we've usurped His authority.

Abner does this in Second Samuel chapter two, where Samuel in the past has already anointed David at the command of God. David is to be the next king in Israel. And when Saul dies, Abner anoints someone else instead.

In second Samuel chaptertwo and in verseeight, But Abner, the son of Ner, commander of Saul's Army, tookIshbosheth, the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim and made him king over Gilead.

Abner chooses a different king, which he had no authority to do. He usurped the authority of God.

How We Treat The Friends of Our Enemies - Admonition 263

2 Samuel 2:5-6 So David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead, and said to them, "You are blessed of the LORD, for you have shown this kindness to your lord, to Saul, and have buried him. And now may the LORD show kindness and truth to you. I also will repay you this kindness, because you have done this thing.

When a third party interacts with those who mistreat us, how should we treat them?

An example of that is in second Samuel Chapter two, Soul has sought David's life, has attempted to kill him, has run him from his home, and now Saul has died. But the men of Jabesh Gilead go up and they retrieve Saul's body that had been taken by the Philistines, and they bury him properly.

And David says this about these men, You are blessed of the Lord, for you have shown this kindness to your Lord to Saul and have buried him. And now may the Lord show kindness and truth to you. I also will repay you this kindness because you have done this thing. Even though Saul hated him and the men of Jabesh did good to Saul, David showed kindness to them.

We need to learn this kind of complex good behavior in our own lives and implement it today.

Who Gave Them Authority? - Admonition 262

2 Samuel 2:3 And David brought up the men who were with him, every man with his household. So they dwelt in the cities of Hebron. Then the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah.

In Second Samuel, Chapter two, and in verse four we read, Then the men of Judah came. And there they anointed David king over the house of Judah.

These leaders of Judah come and they anoint David as their king. Let me ask you a question. Whoever gave them authority to anoint the King? The answer is no one. Samuel had already anointed David as King. And it was simply a matter of waiting until Saul's life was over before he would take that throne, or have it given to him by God that is.

These men had no authority to anoint David or to oppose him because he was the Lord's anointed.

Get Clarity on the Command - Admonition 261

In 2 Samuel 2, David inquires of Lord as to whether or not he should go up to Judah after Saul's death, and the Lord tells him to go.

But that's not enough for David. David has been told to go, but David wants more clarity on where to go. So, he inquires of Lord, to what city should I go? And the Lord says to Hebron.

Sometimes we need to look a little deeper, and sometimes we need to get clarification. When God has given us a command and we're not completely sure how to fulfill it, let's dig a little deeper and learn what God would have us to do exactly as he said.

It Ought To Be This Simple - Admonition 260

In Second Samuel, Chapter two, we read about David enquiring of the Lord and asking the Lord, What should I do now that Saul is dead? Should I go up to the cities of Judah? And the Lord tells him to go up.

Guess what David does? Having found out what God wants him to do. He does it. You and I need to learn in our lives that obedience ought to be that simple.

When we know what God has told us to do, we simply ought to do it.

David Inquired of the Lord - Admonition 259

We read in 2 Samuel 2 in verse 1 that after the death of Saul David is going to do something. We read Verse one.

David when he's trying to decide what to do, inquired of the Lord, and we need to learn that lesson in our own lives.

We need to learn that before we make big decisions and small ones, we should pray and seek God's guidance.

How Do You Speak About Enemies? - Admonition 258

How do you speak about those who do you wrong? When David is mourning the death of Saul and Jonathan... Saul, of course, being one who had tried to kill him, who had run him away from his own home, who was seeking his life. And yet, David says, in 2 Samuel 1:23,

Saul and Jonathan were beloved and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided. They were swifter than eagles. They were stronger than lions.

David chose to speak good of one who have done evil to him. How are you speaking about those who are your enemies today?

Your Mouth Can Get You In Trouble - Admonition 257

2 Samuel 1:14-16 So David said to him, "How was it you were not afraid to put forth your hand to destroy the LORD'S anointed?" 15 Then David called one of the young men and said, "Go near, and execute him!" And he struck him so that he died.16 So David said to him, "Your blood is on your own head, for your own mouth has testified against you, saying, 'I have killed the LORD'S anointed.'"

Has your mouth ever gotten you in trouble? I know one person's who did. An individual comes to David after Saul and Jonathan die on the battlefield against the Philistines and he claims to have killed Saul.

We read in Second Samuel chapter one that after he claims this, David will command him to be executed and will say, "your blood is on your own head for your own mouth has testified against you saying, "I have killed the Lord's anointed."

We need to be careful how we use our mouth. Sometimes it just might get us in a world of trouble.

He Thought David Wanted This - Admonition 256

There's a lesson for us in 2 Samuel, Chapter one. A man comes to David seeking a reward. He claims to have killed Saul on the battlefield.

He claims to have been the one who killed the king who was trying to kill David. And he thought David would like this... But David didn't, because we read that David will command this individual to be executed and will say,

Your blood is on your own head for your own mouth has testified against you, saying I have killed the Lord's anointed.

As far as David was concerned, it was up to God. What would happen with Saul was not up to this man who took the actions into his own hands

The Lord's Anointed - Admonition 255

There's a man who comes to David when Saul has died, Saul and Jonathan fall in battle, and this man comes to tell David the news, and it's not going to turn out the way he hoped.

He believes he's going to come and bring this news of Saul dying, and David would be glad, and David would reward him, but something else happens instead.

In second Samuel, Chapter one David said in verse 14. How was it you were not afraid to put forth your hand to destroy the Lord's anointed?

This man claimed to have killed Saul with his own hand, and David pronounced this man's judgment based upon his own testimony.

How to Avoid Anger - Admonition 254

We mentioned in the past something that's really hard, especially for some people. And that's controlling their anger.

Sometimes we just fly off the handle. Sometimes we lose our temper. Sometimes we're quick tempered, and those are the qualities of a Christian.

So what can we do to avoid anger? Number one, Paul says in Ephesians Chapter four, Verse 26.

Do not let the sun go down on your wrath. Anger builds upon anger from the past. When we deal with the situations of today, while it is still today, we don't have to relive them tomorrow.

Deal with your anger today and live the life of a Christian.

When you allow anger to grab hold of your life, when you allow anger to control you, you open up a target for Satan. Control yourself. Learn to exhibit the mind of Christ in your life.

What changes are supposed to happen when you become a Christian?

One of them is, your mind is supposed to change because the person living inside of you is supposed to change. Ephesians, Chapter four, Verse 23 says, "And be renewed in the spirit of your mind. And that you put on the new man which was created according to God in true righteousness and holiness."

When a person is baptized into Christ, when they are immersed in water, they die and they are resurrected again to a new life. They come up out of that water, a new person and they're supposed to change. They're supposed to live differently.

When you were baptized, did you come out and begin living a new life? Where did you go back to the old one -- think about that today.

What does it mean to learn Christ? Because Paul says that we are to learn Christ? Ephesians four, Verse 20.

Jesus said to his disciples in John. Chapter 17 for 17 is he's praying to the father. "Sanctify them by thy truth (God's truth) Your word (God's word) is truth." Are you allowing God's word to change your life today?

Were you taught that you couldn't continue to live the way you always lived? There are some churches today that don't teach that. They teach that you can supposedly "accept Christ" and then life just goes on.

No, Paul says in Ephesians, Chapter four, verse 20. But you have not so learned Christ... Did you know that becoming your Christian is a learning process?

You're supposed to learn to pattern your life after His, and to live and think the way He lived and thought. Is the mind of Christ and the life of Christ exhibited in your life?

There's an interesting point that Paul makes in Ephesians, Chapter four verses 17 and 18. He talks about the Gentiles who are futile in their mind. He says they're they're of no value. They're pointless because of the way they're living, because they're living in a way that is ignorant of God, and they're choosing a course in life based upon their ignorance of God.

So when you think about that, when he says that... In the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from a life of God because of the ignorance that is in them because of the blindness of their heart... when you read those words, does it make you want to stop and know God better? Does it also explain to you the struggles and the difficulties you see in the world around you because people live ignorant of God?

But then he says to the Christians in Ephesus... But you have not so learned Christ. If your ignorance of God is causing you to live in a way that's unrighteous, ungodly, unchristian-like, begin by changing your knowledge of God.

Paul says, our life when we become Christians is supposed to be changed. It's supposed to be different. Don't walk--live is what that means--like you used to live. Moses here tells Israel, God allowed you to go through the difficulties in the wilderness. God allowed you to go through the difficulties at this time because he wanted to test you to find out if you would be faithful to him. He wanted to know if you would learn the lesson that he was going to give you, and that is that you need more than this physical world to survive. You need what God will give you. You need the word of God. And when Jesus is tempted by Satan, what do we find? He used this passage to defeat the devil.

In Deuteronomy chapter eight and in verse two we read this, And you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these 40 years in the wilderness to humble you and to test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.

God tested Israel in the wilderness. He tested them as they were journeying. He tested them. He tested them with water. He tested them with food. He tested them with the struggles they had to go through, and God tests us today.

How are you doing? As God is testing you, how are you doing on your test from the Lord? Are you being found faithful and righteous before him?

Which Is More Important? - Admonition 227

And now, Admonition.

Which is more important, the word of God or the doctrines of men? Some might say, well, that's, that's easy. One comes from God and one comes from men. But do we live that way? Do we live in such a way where we hold God's Word to a lower level in our lives than the traditions that we've been following for our entire life or that we've been taught for our entire life? In Matthew chapter 15 verse nine we read And in vain they worship me... This is a quotation from Isaiah that Jesus is making. He says... In vain they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men... He's talking about the Pharisees and he says, these people are teaching men's commandments as if they're God's. And that caused the people to worship in vain.

Can your traditions cause you to lose your soul because of sin? Yes, they can because they can nullify your worship. Be careful about the traditions of men. They can damn your soul.

Where Does Sin Come From? - Admonition 226

Where does sin come from in the life of an individual? Is it outside forces? Is it? Is it nurture? Is it nature? Where does sin come from? Jesus tells us in Matthew chapter 15, for out of the heart, proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornication, thefts, false witnesses, blasphemies.

Jesus says, if your problem is sin, your problems in your heart, we need to be careful to not excuse sin. We might look at a sin and we might say, you know what? That's a little thing. That's, that's not a big sin. Some someone has a problem controlling their mouth that that's a little thing. The problem is the Bible says the sin that's outward is an indication of a problem in the heart that's much deeper, much more significant. We need to guard our heart for out of that comes the issues of life.

Blind Leaders - Admonition 224

Have you ever been on a trip and gotten directions from someone who you learned later, didn't know where they were going? I've done that. I've been that person. I've been the one giving the directions before. It's not a great place to be. It's not very comfortable.

Jesus accused the Pharisees in Matthew chapter 15 of being blind leaders of the blind, but there's a difference. Interestingly, as you look into that context between the blind who are following the blind and the leaders, you see the Pharisees were blind because they were intentionally refusing the word of God and the people following them were blind to the truth that the Pharisees were unrighteous. Jesus will tell those who would listen, don't follow the acts of the pharisees. The scribes follow the law that they teach, but not their lives. We have to be careful who we follow today.

You Offended Them - Admonition 223

And now, Admonition.

Sometimes there are some very interesting questions in scripture, and I find Matthew chapter 15 to hold one of the most interesting ones that I've looked at. It's a question that comes to Jesus from his disciples. Notice what we read in Matthew chapter 15 verse 12, Then his disciples came and said, do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?

Jesus has just made a statement in opposition of the Pharisees, He's called them hypocrites, and the disciples come to him privately and say, Do you know they were offended when you said that? And Jesus didn't walk it back. Say, Oh, Jesus needed to apologize! You shouldn't offend people. That's wrong! Jesus didn't say that.

Jesus said, Every plant, which my heavenly father is not planted will be uprooted. Let them alone. When you offend a sheep, you need to repent. When you offend a Wolf, you're protecting the flock.

Hear and Understand - Admonition 222

And now, Admonition.

Can a person who's not a Christian--not obedient to God--understand the word of God? There are some in the religious world that say, no, that's not possible. There are some in the religious world that say, until the Holy Spirit acts on someone's heart, they can't understand the word of God. Jesus believes differently than that, and I know that because in Matthew chapter 15 verse 10 when he called the multitude to Himself, He said to them, Hear and understand. Jesus calls upon people, everyday people, normal people in a crowd of people who are listening to him to hear and understand. Do you know what that means? Jesus isn't calling upon them to do something they were incapable of doing. Jesus isn't calling upon them to do something that the Holy Spirit had to act on them before they could do. Jesus is calling upon them to do what God has given us the ability to do, and that is to hear his word, understand it and obey it.

The Life of a Hypocrite - Admonition 221

Matthew 15:7-8 - Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: 'These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me.

In Matthew chapter 15 and in verse seven Jesus says of the Pharisees, Well, did Isaiah prophesy of you saying, these people draw near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Isaiah said about those in his day that they were willing to speak words that sounded like they honored God. They were willing to say things and do things that looked like they honored God. But in actuality, their heart was something entirely different. Jesus calls this type of person a hypocrite. We don't want to be considered, by God, as hypocrites. And here's something that we need to remember: God knows our hearts. Are you living the life of a hypocrite today? I hope not. But if you are, I hope you'll change today.

Honor Your Parents - Admonition 220

Matthew 15:4 - For God commanded, saying, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.'

And now, Admonition.

In Matthew chapter 15 in verse four we read this, For God commanded saying, honor your father and your mother and he who curses father or mother, let him be put to death. Here in this passage, Jesus is quoting the old Testament and Jesus is saying, this is a commandment from God under the law of Moses -- under the law that the Jews lived under in Matthew chapter 15 and this was a requirement of God's people to honor their father and their mother.

But did you realize that this word honor isn't talking about you? You speak to them respectfully. Oh, it certainly involves that -- It involves respect, but that's not what Jesus is saying -- Jesus is saying, and the law was saying, when your parents get to an age where they are in need of your assistance, your help, your support, your financial assistance you provide for them. If you have parents who are older, are you honoring your parents?

Can I Disobey God? - Admonition 219

Matthew 15:3 - He answered and said to them, "Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?

And now, Admonition.

Have you ever asked the question, can I disobeyed God? It may seem like a question that doesn't even need to be asked, but the simple reality is there are those who believe you can not disobey God and there be any consequences or that even God cares about disobedience. But the fact of the matter is, Jesus in Matthew Chapter 15 verse three, he says, why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your traditions? Jesus says, it is not only possible to transgress the commandment of God, but if you look through the remainder of the context, you're going to find out that Jesus considers that a very great offense, as a sin, as a matter of fact -- as something that will destroy our relationship with God.

You can transgress the law of God, you can sin, and you will be held accountable for that sin.

In Matthew Chapter 15 and in verse two the Pharisees asked this question, why do your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders for they do not wash their hands when they eat bread? This is one of those passages where we identify very clearly in the scripture that Jesus perspective about the tradition of the elders was very different than his perspective about the law of God. Because Jesus will correct their understanding and position on the tradition of the elders. They would hold and value the tradition of the elders, but they would ignore the commands of God. There is no tradition. There is no word. There is no doctrine of men that should ever stand higher in our minds and in our lives than the word of God. We need to be careful to put God's word where it belongs first in our lives.

Good Teachers Appreciate Questions - Admonition 217

Matthew Chapter 15, we read this: Then the scribes and the Pharisees who were from Jerusalem came to Jesus saying..." One of the things that we learn about teachers is good teachers appreciate questions. When students come to teachers with honest questions, we value those questions and we take the opportunity to answer those questions with legitimate and proper answers. But these people weren't coming to Jesus with legitimate questions. They were coming to Jesus with accusations that proved that they did not understand God's word.

We need to be those who recognize that when we ask questions about God's word and about God, we need to be honest with our questions and righteous in our hearts.

Are Others Still Working? - Admonition 216

Deuteronomy chapter three verse 18 we read, hen I commanded you at that time, saying the Lord your God has given you all this land to possess. All you men of Valor shall cross over armed before your brethren, the children of Israel, but your a wives, your little ones and your livestock, I know that you have much livestock, shall stay in your cities, which I have given you, until the Lord has given arrest to your brother and as to you. God tells the two and a half tribes that will stay and live on the other side of the Jordan River, You don't get to stay over here while your brethren go and fight to take the Promised Land that I promised to you.

We need to learn to prioritize others above ourselves. We need to learn that when others are still working, are still laboring. We don't need to be sitting back doing nothing. We need to be helping our brethren in the work.

He says, verse 29 until I crossed the Jordan to the land, which the Lord our God is giving us, but Sihon, King of Heshbon, would not let us pass through. And then he (Moses) tells Israel that God was the reason. Something has changed in 40 years when God told Israel to take the Promised Land, this land wasn't initially included, but something's changed. And now God says, these people are falling under condemnation. What's changing in your life? Is it changing for the better?

How long was Israel wandering in the wilderness?

Some might say, well, it was, it was 40 years. It was, but it's always important as you read Scripture to pay attention to the details of Scripture. Israel did wander in the wilderness 40 years from the time they left Egypt until the time they entered the Promised Land. But there period of, if we were technical, wandering, was 38 years.

Deuteronomy chapter two verse five, Moses is rehearsing the events of Israel, leaving their wandering in the wilderness and beginning to head towards the promised land, and notice what he says as they're going through the land of their brethren, Esau. He says, Do not meddle with them. For I will not give you any of their land. No, not so much as one footstep. God is telling them, This doesn't belong to you. Just because God said you're my people. Just because God said, I've prepared a land for you. Just because God said I have an inheritance for you. Didn't mean they could do whatever they wanted to. Respect what belongs to others. Respect what doesn't belong to you. Don't meddle in other's affairs.

Don't Sin Presumptuously - Admonition 212

In Deuteronomy chapter one, verse 43 we read this, So I spoke to you, yet you would not listen, but rebelled against the command of the Lord and presumptuously went up into the mountain. There are a number of times in scripture where we read about someone sinning presumptuously we read about it here with Israel. We read about it with the individual who on the Sabbath Day went and picked up sticks. This idea is someone who knows, they've been told specifically by God, don't do something and then they go and do it anyway. But they don't just do it, they do it as it were, shaking their fist at God, saying, you can't tell me what to do. Don't live this way. Don't sin presumptuously, there's a severe judgment that comes as a result.

Do Not Go Up - Admonition 211

As you and I look at our lives and we look at the commandments of the New Testament, do we see things that the Bible says Don't do this that we're doing? Are we heeding the commandments of the Lord?

This sounds good. This sounds like they're being obedient. The problem is God's already said, you're not going in the land because you refuse to go into the promised land. You will wander in the wilderness for 40 years. So while it sounds like they're saying we're going to obey the command of the Lord, it's not actually that way. They're still saying, we're going to do it our way on our timetable. That's not obedience. We need to be those who obey God when he tells us to do something and we need to do it the way He told us to do it.

The Leader You Want - Admonition 209

Deuteronomy chapter one verse 13 we read, Choose wise, understanding, and knowledgeable men from among the tribes, and I will make them heads over you. This is a command to Moses from God saying you pick out individuals from among Israel to be their leaders, to be their judges. This goes back to Exodus 18 where Jethro gives him this advice. The point is, these are the kind of people you're looking for as a leader. If your job is to find leaders, find this kind of wise, understanding, and knowledgeable men.

Long Enough At This Mountain - Admonition 208

In Deuteronomy chapter one verse six, we read, The Lord our God spoke to us in Horeb saying, you have dwelt long enough at this mountain. God's message to Israel is, you've come here, you've received the law, you've seen my presence, you've heard my voice, but you've been at Sinai long enough. It's time to move on.

Sometimes we find ourselves in similar situations. It may be a week out at Bible camp. It may be a week at a lectureship. It may be a weak at something like polishing the pulpit where you come and you just feel like, I just want to stay here. I just want to live here. I want it to be like this every day!

But it's not supposed to be. Some days you have to leave and go out and do the work. God has set for you to do.

This old apostle reaching the end of his life, writing to the church he had served for most of his life, writes to them and says, I don't know... I don't know what w e will be like in eternity, but I know this, we will be like him. Are you ready to go there? I hope you are today. If not, I hope you'll get ready today. Get ready to go be like Christ.

What Rich People Buy - Admonition 206

James 1:9-11 - Let the lowly brother glory in his exaltation, but the rich in his humiliation, because as a flower of the field he will pass away. Riches in this life can buy you a lot of things. It can buy you position; it can buy you prominence. But friend, if you're rich and you're a member of the body of Christ, may I encourage you to allow your riches to buy you humility? James chapter one, James writes, let the lowly brother (physically)... the lowly brother glory in his exaltation... Those who are poor, those who are lowly in this life, God exalts them. ...But the rich in his humiliation. If you're going to be happy about something and you're rich, if you're going to be happy about something today, may I encourage you, be happy if you're humbled. Be happy if you're lowered; be blessed in humiliation. It's hard to be rich and serve God.

The Filthy Rich - Admonition 205

I heard a phrase growing up that I don't hear much anymore, maybe it's being said just not around me, but it was someone's "filthy rich." We should never be filthy rich. We should never be so rich that it destroys our purity. But Paul writes to Timothy and he says, command those who are rich in this present age, not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God who gives us richly all things to enjoy. Let them... All right, if you're rich, this applies to you. ...Let them do good, that they may be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share.

If you're rich today, there's your call. Be ready to give, ready to share, and rich, not in money, but in good works.

Where Does God Dwell? - Admonition 204

Where does God dwell? Where is the home of God? What would it be like to be near the home of God? There's a lot of things in scripture that we could read on this idea, but Paul writes to Timothy, his son in the faith, and first Timothy Chapter six and he says this: Concerning the king of kings and Lord of Lords, who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light. The light of God is such that we in flesh, in human form, cannot be in his presence. God dwells in a place where we have to be changed to go. First Corinthians 15 says, that's the resurrection, and if you're faithful, you can go.

Share with me - Admonition 203

We love it when people share that way. We love it when someone shares the last piece of cake, last biscuit on the plate. Some of us are better at sharing than others. Some of us, it just comes naturally. It's just something we do. We share with people. Some of us, it doesn't come naturally. We have to give thought to it and we have to desire to share and we don't like it when somebody forces us to share.

But Paul encourages Timothy to share something with him, not what you'd expect. Verse Eight of Second Timothy Chapter One, he says, therefore, do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord nor of me his prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the Gospel. Are you sharing in those sufferings? Are you suffering for the cause of Christ? Share with me, won't you.

Pursue Righteousness - Admonition 202

Pray for the President Today - Admonition 201

Paul writes to Timothy and he says, Therefore, I exhort first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of things be made for all men pray for the world and all who live in it.

But he also says for kings and all who are in authority, if your prayer list doesn't include your president, King, queen, or whatever you have, may I encourage you to put them on that list?

Pray for the king, prayed for the rulers they needed. Pray and respect the power of prayer. Pray for those who need it. Pray for those you love. Pray today.

Lessons from the One Told No - Admonition 200

Paul had a problem. He didn't like the fact that he had a problem, but he had a problem and he wanted to get rid of it. So he went to the only person that he could actually get to fix the problem. He went to God. And he asked God to take away the thorn of his flesh. God said, no. God said, my grace is sufficient. In Isaiah chapter 40, this is what we read. He gives power to the weak and to those who have no might, he increases strength. God told Paul, when you're weak, I'm strong. Do you have weaknesses? Do you have difficulties? Do you have things problems you wish would just go away? May I encourage you to find God's strength in your weaknesses? Do that today.

The King is Coming! - Admonition 199

A cry goes out in the city. "The king is coming! The King is Coming! And it's great news. King's passing through. Everything in the village changes. Everybody picks up. It's like mom coming home and your room's a mess. You pick it up. You make sure everything's right.

The king is coming. Isaiah chapter 40 verse one, comfort. Yes. Comfort my people says God, speak comfort to Jerusalem and cry out to her that her warfare is ended and her iniquity is pardoned. For she has received from the Lord's hand, double for all her sins. The Voice of one crying in the wilderness. Prepare the way of the Lord. Make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

Take the twisted road and make it straight. Take the hills and level 'em out. The king is coming. Prepare the way. That was John's message. John the Baptist prepared the way of the Lord. He made hearts ready to repent. Have you repented?

Seeking Salvation From Christ - Admonition 198

Nothing was made that was made. Jesus offers you salvation. He offers you a way to the father, but did you also know he created everything around you? If you're going to seek salvation from this life, may I encourage you, seek it from the one who created this life. And upholds it by the word of his power, Hebrews chapter one. May I encourage you to seek it from Christ and him alone. Take that with you today and consider if you're seeking salvation from the right individual.

Sometimes We Talk Too Much - Admonition 197

Sometimes we say too much. That goes without saying. Sometimes we talk too often. There was a time in which Jesus said nothing. in Mark chapter 15, then Pilate asked him saying, do you answer nothing? He's on trial and he's giving no reply for their accusations. He says, Do you answer nothing? See how many things they testify against you? But Jesus still answered nothing. So that Pilate marveled. Here's the governor of the people and he's astonished that this man stands and says nothing.

Why can you say nothing when someone speaks against you? Let me encourage you to think about it this way. Jesus life spoke for him. Does yours?

Will You Go With God? - Admonition 196

We have turned every one to his own way, and the Lord has laid on him. Who? The lamb. The iniquity of us all. You can't go your way without a cost, and Jesus paid the cost. Will you change and go God's way? Give it some thought today. Go God's way.

Let Us Reason Together - Admonition 195

Reason... reason is a beautiful thing. To think and consider, to analyze, and to reason about something. It is a valuable tool, a valuable asset to any individual in their daily lives. But did you know God calls upon us to reason with Him? In Isaiah chapter one, in verse 18 he says, Come now, let us reason together. Says the Lord, though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow, though they are red light crimson, they shall be as wool. If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land. God says, reason with me. Come to an understanding with me. Obey me, and I'll bless you.

The Ceremony That Killed Two Men - Admonition 194

And now Admonition...

Two men were invited to take part in the ceremony. They were invited to take part in the beginning of a ceremony that that would set and alter the course of an entire nation. And they didn't live through the experience. Aaron had two sons names Nadab, and Abihu. He had four... those two we're talking about, Nadab and Abihu were priests of God. They were supposed to offer fire and incense upon the altar and they didn't do it properly. And do you know why? If you read Leviticus chapter 10 very carefully, you'll find out why... they were drunk. Have you ever been approached by someone who didn't know you and they thought they did? Came up to you and said, hi, good to see you, and you're thinking, who? Who is this person? The world's like that for a Christian. I'll not that we don't know people personally, but first John Chapter three verse one says, behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us that we should be called the children of God. Therefore, the world does not know us because it did not know him. Jesus Christ was an anomaly to the world. He was a contrast to the world. They didn't understand them. They didn't want to understand him. They rejected him and Jesus said, they hated me and they'll hate you too. May I encourage you, be a stranger to the world in your daily life.

How You Should Treat One Another - Admonition 192

How you should treat one another. It is important to consider how you treat one another. Lying destroys your influence for God. Truth-telling helps others to see God even when it is difficult.

Scripture:

Ephesians 4:25 - Therefore, putting away lying, "Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor," for we are members of one another.

Transcript:

The scripture admonishes us. Therefore putting away lying. Let each of you speak truth with his neighbor for we are members of one another. Have you ever given thought to that?

Have you ever given thought to the reality that you are a participant together with everyone around you, a participant together in obedience with God? And if you lie to someone, you hold them back from believing in God. You hold them back from obeying the truth. Why? Because you've destroyed your influence for the truth.

May I encourage you, speak the truth. Sometimes it'll hurt, but the man of God speaks the truth even when it does hurt. This writer says, speak the truth.

The Dead That Die in the Lord - Admonition 191

In Acts Chapter 12 and in verse one we read this, Now about that time, Herod the king stretched out his hand to harass some of the church. Then he killed James, the brother of John with the sword. James The apostle is going to die for Christianity's sake. He's going to die for the testimony of the lamb of God. And revelation says, Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord. James left this life at the edge of a sword. You might leave this life in one of a million different ways, but my question for you is, will you be ready? Herod would leave this life unprepared. I hope you will get in the scriptures. Read the word.

What Is Your Spiritual Foundation? - Admonition 190

What is your spiritual foundation? Jesus is to be your firm foundation. He is to be the support for all your choices and service in this life. Have you made Jesus the foundation of your life, or is your life crumbling beneath you?

1 Corinthians 3:11 - For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Paul writes to the church at Corinth in first Corinthians chapter three verse 11, he says: For no other foundation can any one lay then that which is laid, which he is Christ Jesus. In your Christianity, if you are a Christian, is the foundation of your spiritual life, Jesus Christ? If you're not a Christian, your foundation isn't Jesus Christ. Your Foundation for your spiritual life is not the only one in whom there is hope in eternity.

May I plead with you, build a foundation, build a foundation that will actually last not a foundation of stone or rubble, not a foundation of straw that can burn. Not a foundation of wood that can be destroyed, but a foundation in Jesus Christ. How can you do that? You come to know Jesus Christ through his scripture. Start there.

Be Careful How You Speak To A Baby - Admonition 189

You have to be careful how you speak to the babes in the Body of Christ. Be careful what you say to them and how you teach them. They are Christ's children and they should be loved, encouraged, and protected.

Scripture:

1 Corinthians 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ.

Transcript:

Paul writes to the church at Corinth, and he says this, in First Corinthians chapter three verse one:

And I, brethren could not speak to you as spiritual people, but as to carnal, as to Babes in Christ.

In your congregation where you worship. There are some people that you have to be careful how you speak to them. They're just babies. They're not babies physically, they're babes spiritually. You need to be patient with them. You need to be long-suffering with them.

May I encourage you, please be careful how you speak to a babe in Christ. Be careful what you tell them. Be careful how you tell them. Here's just a thought. Speak to them as you would a child. Not demeaning them, but in love and protect them for their Babes in Christ.

Are You Standing? - Admonition 188

1 Corinthians 15:1-2 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you--unless you believed in vain.

Transcript:

Paul writes to the Corinthians in First Corinthians Chapter 15 verse one and he says this, Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the Gospel which I preached to you, which also you received. And here's the key phrase in which you stand.

As we think about our lives, as we think about our religious lives, may I encourage you to always take this reality to heart. You have to stand for the Gospel. You have to stand with the Gospel. You have to stand behind the Gospel. If you are unwilling to stand in that which saved you, you will not stand up for the one who saved you.

Verse two says, By which also you are saved. May I ask you? Are you standing?

Summary:

Are you standing for the Gospel? Are you standing with the Gospel? Are you standing behind the Gospel? If so, are you really stand up for God?
1 Corinthians 15:1-2 - Standing in the Gospel is a part of the Christian life.
Consider this admonition today.

Herod's Companions - Admonition 187

And when Herodias' daughter herself came in and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, "Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you." He also swore to her, "Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom." So she went out and said to her mother, "What shall I ask?" And she said, "The head of John the Baptist!" Immediately she came in with haste to the king and asked, saying, "I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter." And the king was exceedingly sorry; yet, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he did not want to refuse her.

Mark 6:21-26 we find Herodias and her daughter present for Herod's birthday. And Herod will watch Herodias' daughter dance and he will promise her up to half the kingdom and she goes out to ask her mother what she should ask for. And her mother says, ask for John the Baptist head. And she makes haste to go back and to tell Herod, I want the head of John the Baptist on a platter.

And we read in Verse 26 and the king was exceedingly sorry yet because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he did not want to refuse her. Be careful who you surround yourself with. Some people won't want you to repent.

Herod Obeyed John the Baptist - Admonition 186

Mark 6:19-20 Therefore Herodias held it against him and wanted to kill him, but she could not; for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and he protected him. And when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.

Mark 6:20 we read, For Herod feared John knowing that he was a just and holy man and he protected him -- protected him from whom Herodias his wife who wanted to kill him -- And when he heard him, he did many things and heard him gladly. Herod was one who listened to John preach, who heard him gladly was open to what John told him and did many things as a result of what John preached.

But there was one area of his life he wasn't willing to listen to John, and it was about his marriage. He wasn't willing to listen to John and obey John's commands to put away his wife because he had no right to be married to her. We need to make sure that when we obey the word of God, we don't pick and choose. We obey everything God has told us to do.

A Path to Destruction - Admonition 185

We read in Mark Chapter six verse 22 and when Herodias' daughter herself came in and danced and pleased Herod in those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, ask me whatever you want and I will give it to you. He also swore to her, whatever you ask me, I will give it to you up to half of my kingdom.

This lustful act where Herod watched her Herodias' his daughter dance. The indication is this dance wasn't anything like wholesome. It most likely involved in modesty and lustful actions. Lasciviousness is what the Bible would call it. Lust leads you to greater sin. It will lead you down a path of destruction. We need to put aside lust. Paul said, flee youthful lusts, but follow after righteousness.

Would God Break Up A Marriage? - Admonition 184

For John had said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife."

Mark 6:17,18, 19 we could answer the question, Would God ever command that a marriage be broken up because two people weren't eligible to be married to one another?

Well, the answer's yes. Not only do we see it in the Old Testament, we see it in the new testament because John the Baptist comes to Herod and says, Herod, it is not lawful for you to have your brother, Phillip's wife. And he commands Herod to correct the situation. The only way Herod could correct the situation was to put away Herodias and no longer be married to her because she still was the wife of Philip. You know... We ought to obey God rather than man, and we ought to obey God's laws rather than man's laws.

A Law Ignored. A Law Obeyed. - Admonition 183

Mark 6:19 we find a law ignored and a law obeyed. Herodias held it against John the Baptist because he had come to Herod and said, it's not lawful for you to have your brother Philip's wife. So she held it against him. Verse 17 and wanting to kill him, but she could not. Why couldn't she? Why couldn't she kill... Or why couldn't she kill John The baptist? Because Herod said no, she obeyed the law of the king. She obeyed the law of her husband, but she was more than willing to ignore the law of God. We need to understand that God's laws ought to always take precedence in our lives, no matter who else's laws we ever obey.

John told Herod, this is against the law. This isn't lawful. You can't have Herodias. Now, how dare John say that? How dare John come and try to break up Herod's happy home? There are people today who will claim that we should ignore God's laws on marriage because of people's happiness. John the Baptist wouldn't have been one of them.

Mark 6:16 we read this, But when Herod heard thereof, he said, it is John, whom I beheaded, He was risen... Herod believed that Jesus, and the miracles that he was performing, and because of those things, that Jesus was John the Baptist returned from the dead. Herod was afraid because Herod knew what he had done was wrong. Herod knew that his judgment of John was unjust and that he had only done it because of her Herodias. We need to be certain that we live our lives different from Herod. We need to be certain that we live righteously. We need to be certain that we live in a way that we can stand before God on the Day of judgment and know that we lived in good conscience, not like Herod.

Have you ever done something wrong because someone else wanted you to do it? Have you ever done something wrong purely because someone else was insistent that you do that thing that was wrong? Herod gave into the influence of Herodias his wife. It's so important that we be careful who we surround ourselves with. It is so important that we be careful about who we allow to influence us and become close to us. We need to be careful to choose our friends and especially our spouse wisely.

Interpreting the Prophets - Admonition 179

Mark 6:14-15 - Now King Herod heard of Him, for His name had become well known. And he said, "John the Baptist is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him." Others said, "It is Elijah." And others said, "It is the Prophet, or like one of the prophets."

Others said, "This is Elias." There were many who believed that the works of Jesus were being done by different individuals. Jesus would ask his apostles, who do men say that I am? And some of them believed that he was Elijah come back from the dead. The book of Malachi, tells us that Elijah would return, it prophesied his return. Now Jesus will correct his disciples understanding and they would be told that it would be John the Baptist who came as the representative of Elijah. But here's the important point. They all believed these things were true about Jesus. We need to be careful that when we interpret the Prophets, we interpret them correctly, and in view of what the new testament writers tell us about those prophets.

Herod Had a Guilt Conscience - Admonition 178

Mark 6:14 we read this, and King Herod heard of him for his name was spread abroad and he said that John the Baptist was risen from the dead and therefore mighty works do show forth themselves in him. Herod had a guilty conscience. Herod had put John in prison and because of Herodias, we'll find this out in a few verses from now, he had put John to death. And now he thinks having heard these things that John was back, John was back and John was doing these miracles. Herod had a guilty conscience. We need to be careful about the things we do because our conscience will attack us when we do wrong.

In Mark 6:12, we read, So they went out and preached that people should repent. Jesus sends out his disciples here in this context, two by two; Sends out the 12 to the cities of Galilee and he sends them out and here's their message: Here's what they're teaching, Here's what they're preaching, Repent! John the Baptist taught the people to repent. Jesus taught the people to repent. The disciples taught the people to repent and in Acts 2:38 Peter's Message to Israel was repent. We need to learn that God expects us to change our lives to fit his commands, not change his commands to fit our lives.

Mark 6:11 we read, And whoever will not receive you nor hear you when you depart from there, shake off the dust under your feet as a testimony against them. Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the Day of judgment than for that city. Jesus says, if you reject my message, if you reject what I send out through my messengers, it's going to be more tolerable for Sodom than for you. These people would have seen the miracles he did. They would witness the healings and the things and the miracles that the disciples did, and he says, if you reject the message, judgment's coming upon you. We need to learn this lesson and we need to teach people that there's a fearful judgment ahead if they reject the message of God.

Jesus sends out his disciples with a message. The message belongs to God. The message comes from the father. The message has come through Christ to the disciples, to these people. The message didn't belong to the Messenger. The Messenger doesn't get to change the message so that the people hearing the message will obey it. Teachers and preachers may I encourage you, do not adjust the message of God to make it more tolerable for a people who won't listen. If they won't listen, the judgment is on them. Speak the truth. Hold fast to the truth without wavering. Do not change the message.

Jesus will tell his disciples as they go out to teach and to preach. When you go to a city and the people reject you--you can't find a household that will take you in, that will receive you, that will hear your words--when that happens, you understand something: they're not rejecting you. They're rejecting the one who sent you. We need to learn as we teach and preach to others. The rejection of the message is not a rejection of us. It's a rejection of the Father. It's a rejection of Christ. It's a rejection of the one who sent the message.

We read in Mark 6:10, Also, he said to them, in whatever place you enter a house, stay there till you part from that place. Jesus is going to tell his disciples, when you go to a city, you find the house, a household and you stay there with them. You don't depart. You don't go looking for the crowd. You don't go from place to place. You stay with those who heard you and received your word and they will become the nucleus for your evangelism in that city. Jesus is emphasizing the importance of a small group, a household, a place where that evangelism can happen. We need to learn and relearn today the power of a household doing evangelism and bringing others to Christ.

Take Nothing For The Journey - Admonition 172

Mark 6:8-9 He commanded them to take nothing for the journey except a staff--no bag, no bread, no copper in their money belts--but to wear sandals, and not to put on two tunics.

In Mark, chapter six verses eight and nine, He commanded them to take nothing for the journey except the staff. No bag, no bread, no copper in their money belt, but to wear sandals and not to put it on two tunics.

Jesus is giving them instruction about how they're to travel and he says, you don't take provisions for the journey. He's going to send them into cities and they are going to teach and to preach, and those who receive them are going to supply their needs, but there's something deeper than this.

He wants them to rely on God. He doesn't want them to go out and seek to teach others relying on themselves. He wants them to rely on God. We need to learn to do the same. Take nothing for the journey, but rely on him who sent you.

In Mark chapter six verse seven we read this: And he called the 12 to himself and began in them out two by two and gave them power over unclean spirits. Jesus is going to send out the disciples to preach and to teach and to do miracles two by two-and the reason is because Jesus understands the power of partnership.

You don't have to go far in scripture to find this example throughout scripture: Moses and Aaron, Paul and Silas, Paul and Barnabas, Paul and Timothy, Aquila and Priscilla. Teams of people teaching others. Because when you partner with someone, you can rely on their strengths in your weaknesses and they can rely on your strengths in their weaknesses. We need to learn the power of partnership

Is it always easy to get along with other Christians? No. No, it's not, but it is something we need to strive to do. Paul writes to the Church at Philippi in chapter four verse one and says, Therefore, my beloved and longed-for brethren, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, beloved. I implore Euodia and I implore Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord. And I urge you also, true companion, help these women who labored with me in the Gospel.

Here are two women who at one point labored with Paul in the Gospel teaching others, and now they're at odds with one another and Paul implores them to be of the same mind in Christ. We need to work hard to be of the same mind in Christ with all Christians and to get along for the Gospel's sake.

We read in Paul's letter to the church at Philippi. Yet indeed. I also count all things lost for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish that I may gain Christ.

Paul emphasizes as he sits in a Roman prison that he has lost everything he had in a physical sense. All of his possessions are gone. He's in prison. But he'd give it all up again. He counts it as rubbish. He counts it as nothing... Having obtained Christ. What would you pay for the excellence of the knowledge of Jesus Christ? You might have to give everything. Would you give it?

The Hardest Thing About Preaching - Admonition 168

Do you know one of the hardest things in the life of a minister--in the life of a preacher? One of the hardest things in the life of a preacher is when those whom he teaches turn their back on Christ. We read in Philippians chapter two verse sixteen: Holding fast the word of life so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain or labored in vain. Paul was concerned that they be faithful to God so that his labors weren't wasted. It's hard to teach people and then have them turn their back on God. But preachers, don't ever think that gives you a reason to give up, keep teaching and find those who will be faithful to the word of life.

Work Out Your Own Salvation - Admonition 167

What kind of person do you have to be to obey God? - Admonition 166

What kind of person do you have to be to obey God? I know one characteristic that is absolutely required. We read about it in Philippians chapter two concerning Christ. We read Philippians two verse eight: And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore, God also has highly exalted him and given him the name, which is above every name. In order to obey God, we, like Christ, must humble ourselves. We must decide to bring ourselves down and not be concerned about what happens next and God can lift us up.

Without Complaining or Disputing - Admonition 165

What do you need to do in order to become blameless and harmless children of God? Paul says in Philippians two verse fourteen: Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, If you want to be the kind of person God wants you to be, if you want to be blameless and without fault, then do all things -- He's talking about things of obedience -- do all things without complaining or disputing. When God tells you to do something, don't complain about it. When God gives you what you need to do in His word, obey out of love, not complaining or disputing.

Let This Mind Be In You - Admonition 164

How do you think? How do you consider what you should and shouldn't do? Here's a good evaluation for you. Philippians chapter two verse five says: Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. Paul writes this to the Church at Philippi, and he says, you need to have the mind of Christ, but what's he talking about? What's the context? What does he mean? Look back at verse three: Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind, let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interest, but also for the interests of others, because Christ left Heaven to die for you. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. Think about others ahead of yourself.

No One Like-Minded - Admonition 163

There's a problem with some people. The problem hasn't been just recently. The problem's not a modern problem. It's a human problem. We read this in Philippians chapter two verse 19: But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, that also I may be encouraged when I know your state. For I have no one like-minded who will sincerely care for your state, for all seek their own, not the things which are of Jesus Christ. We need to be those who live our lives seeking first the Kingdom of heaven. We need to live like Timothy and Paul and not seek our own, but instead seek those things that are above.

Sincerely Care - Admonition 162

When you think of characteristics that you need to build into your life, when you think about things that God would want you to be that would benefit others, can I recommend this one? Paul says concerning Timothy that he desired to send Timothy shortly to the church at Philippi for this reason: For I have no one like-minded who will sincerely care for your state. He's saying of all the people who are my companions, of all the people who are with me, Timothy, I'm sending to you because he is so much like me--he cares for you. Do you care for others? Do you think about their situation and do you work with them wherever they are? Let's be Timothy in our lives.

The Lord Was With Him - Admonition 161

Would you like to be Joseph? It might be easy for all of us to say, I would love to be Joseph. I would love to be one who obeyed God, who did what God wanted him to do and was faithful even when, when going through trials. I would love to be Joseph. And wouldn't it be so wonderful for it to be able to be said about us as is said about Joseph, that the keeper of the Prison, Chapter 39 verse 23, did not look into anything that was under Joseph's authority because the Lord was with him. I want to be like Joseph. I want to be the one whom could be described as the Lord is with him. Are you like Joseph? Are you faithful in your service to God?

Living in Excess - Admonition 160

Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years. And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities. And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine.

Sometimes we have a problem with living in excess. We use and consume far more than what we actually need. That happened in Egypt. That happened when they experienced in Egypt the seven years of plenty that God promised them in the dream that Pharaoh had. Because God said through Joseph in his advice, his wisdom to Pharaoh, you set aside one-fifth of all that is brought in during the years of plenty. And so they did. And when they set aside 20% do you know how much they brought in? They brought in so much, they set aside so much, just 20% mind you that they stopped counting how much it was. They brought in enough to feed the whole country for seven years, but in the seven years prior, they consumed four times that amount. Let's be careful about what we think we need as opposed to what God has blessed us with.

I Remember My Faults This Day - Admonition 159

Have you ever forgotten anything? Have you ever forgotten that you promised you would do something and then you realize later, I promise to do that -- and then I forgot about it. That happened to a person who Joseph knew. Joseph Knew Pharaoh's Butler and his Cup Bearer told him, When I get out of prison, when I am restored to my position, I will remember you as Joseph had asked him to do. But then when the man was restored to his position and began working again before Pharaoh -- he didn't. He forgot about Joseph. For two years, he forgot about Joseph. And he says, I remember my faults this day. The day he remembered the one who interpreted his dream in prison. When you tell someone you're going to do something, don't forget, do what you've promised and live faithful before God.

Are You A Faithful Servant? - Admonition 158

What does it mean to be a faithful servant? What does it mean to be a faithful employee? What does it mean to be the kind of person who can be trusted? We read concerning Joseph that he was one who was trusted by Potiphar, so that Potiphar did not even know what was in his own house because it was under the hand, under the care, under the oversight, of Joseph. Joseph was such a faithful servant that Potiphar knew, if it was in Joseph's hands, it was in good hands and he didn't have to worry about it. What kind of person are you? What kind of employee are you? What kind of servant are you? Are You a faithful servant?

Love Them Equally - Admonition 157

Genesis 37:3-4 - Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age. Also he made him a tunic of many colors. But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peaceably to him.

Have you ever known parents that favor one child over another? And have you ever known that situation to turn out well in that family? We've got a number of examples in scripture of that happening and it never turns out well. As matter of fact, in Genesis chapter 37 we read, When his brothers, Joseph's brothers, saw that their father loved Joseph more than all his brothers. They hated him and could not speak peaceably to him. Parents treat your children with love. Do not show partiality. Love all of them equally. Love them with the love of God and do what is right by your children.

Will Everyone Get Into God's Kindgom? - Admonition 156

Will God save everybody? Will everybody be welcome in God's kingdom? A lot of people answer that a lot of different ways. But here's Paul's answer. He writes to the Church at Ephesus in Ephesians chapter five we read this in verse five: For this, you know, writing to Christians, Christians, you know this for this, you know that no fornicator or unclean person nor covetous man who is an idolater has any inheritance in the Kingdom of Christ and God. Does God have standards? And will he judge people by his standards and will he exclude from his kingdom those who practice on righteousness? Oh yes, yes he will. So are you prepared for the Judgment Day? Are you living the kind of life that Paul says you will have no part in the Kingdom of Christ and God?

A Contrast to Christ's Sacrifice - Admonition 155

What's a good contrast to God's appreciation and care and love and concern and attitude towards the sacrifice of Christ? In Ephesians chapter five verse two we read: And Walk in love as Christ also has loved us and given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling aroma. So there's God's attitude towards Christ's sacrifice, but what's the contrast? Verse Three says, But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you as is fitting for saints. You want to contrast Christ's sacrifice with something God hates. How about fornication? Uncleanness. How about desiring what belongs to somebody else? Those are things God cannot stand.

As Dear Children - Admonition 154

Paul writes to the Church at Ephesians chapter five verse one, he says, therefore, be imitators of God as dear children. When you have children who looked to you, who look up at you and their young lives, they see exactly what they want to be. They see exactly how they want to live. They want to be like Mommy and Daddy. They want to live like Mommy and Daddy. They want to do what mommy and daddy do. We're to have that kind of relationship to God. We are to be imitators of God--trying to mimic His actions, His life, His pattern of living, His character as dear children. Who is your hero? Who are you patterning your life after?

It Sometimes Gets Worse - Admonition 153

Have you ever thought, if I just do what God says, everything's going to work out, everything's going to get better every single start looking up. Sometimes that's true, but not always. Sometimes we might be getting a little ahead of ourselves because sometimes when we obey God, things start getting worse before they start getting better. In Exodus chapter five we read this: Then, as they came out from Pharaoh, they met Moses and Aaron who stood there to meet them. And they said to them, Let the LORD look on you and judge, because you have made us abhorrent in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us. The Israelites were mad at Moses and Aaron who they were just being thankful for a chapter earlier because now their life was worse because Pharaoh was making their life harder. They said you're here to kill us. They weren't, but it got worse before it got better. When things go wrong in your life, but you're being faithful to God. Stay faithful.

How Do You React? - Admonition 152

Exodus 4:31 So the people believed; and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel and that He had looked on their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped.

How do you react to hearing God's Word and God's message for your life? How do you react to hearing that God sent his Son to save you from your sins? How do you react, when we read that God sent his son to purchase your redemption? The Israelites in the Old Testament, when they heard that God was going to deliver them from Egypt, here was their reaction: So the people believed, Exodus 4:31, and when they heard that the Lord had visited the children of Israel and that he had looked on their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped. Israel didn't always react the right way towards God. But in this one case, when they heard what God was doing and had done, they bowed their heads and worshiped. May We have that same kind of reaction when God presents us with redemption.

You Cannot Lead Where You Will Not Go - Admonition 151

25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone and cut off the foreskin of her son and cast it at Moses' feet, and said, "Surely you are a husband of blood to me!"
26 So He let him go. Then she said, "You are a husband of blood!" -because of the circumcision.
27 And the LORD said to Aaron, "Go into the wilderness to meet Moses." So he went and met him on the mountain of God, and kissed him.
28 So Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD who had sent him, and all the signs which He had commanded him.
29 Then Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel.
30 And Aaron spoke all the words which the LORD had spoken to Moses. Then he did the signs in the sight of the people.
31 So the people believed; and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel and that He had looked on their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped.

Have you heard the adage, you can't lead people where you won't go yourself? Moses was told by God in Exodus chapters three and four while at the burning Bush to lead God's people out of Egypt because God was their covenant God. He was the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. But part of that covenant was the sign of circumcision. They were to circumcise their male children on the eighth day because that's what God had told Abraham to do. All his sons and all the servants within his house and all of the children with the servants within his house, were all to be circumcised. It was the sign of the covenant, but Moses hadn't obeyed the covenant. And so at the end of Exodus chapter four, Zipporah, Moses' wife will have to circumcise their son and she doesn't like that. But here's the thing, you don't get to lead God's covenant people until you're obeying the covenant yourself. Do not try to lead where you won't go.

Who has made man's mouth - Admonition 150

Ex 4:10 Then Moses said to the LORD, "O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue." 11 So the LORD said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the LORD?

Have you ever been asked to do something that you didn't feel up to the task? Have you ever thought about the commands of God? I, I'm just, I'm not able to do that. Have you ever looked at evangelism and teaching someone else the Gospel and thought, I wouldn't be good at that. I need, I need to do something else. Moses made this excuse before God. In Exodus chapter four he said, But I am slow of speech and slow of tongue. He made the excuse saying, I can't go before Pharaoh. I can't speak on your behalf. God, I'm slow speech and slow of tongue, which the Lord replied. Moses, who do you think made man's mouth? Sometimes we believe ourselves inadequate because we're not understanding that God is the one who's in control. Start giving in to what God has commanded you to do and change your life today.

But I am Slow of Speech - Admonition 149

Have you looked at your life? Have you looked at your abilities? No matter what stage you are in life, no matter what age you are, no matter what position you are, if you looked at your life and wondered, what can God do with me? I don't know if Moses ever thought that, but God appeared to Moses at the burning Bush and God told Moses, you go and lead my people out of Egypt; you go and stand before Pharaoh and you tell him to let my people go and Moses will make excuses. One of Moses excuses is I am slow of speech and slow of tongue. God, I can't do what you're telling me to do because I'm inadequate for the job. And the Lord asked Moses question who made man's mouth? When God tells you to do something, I highly recommend you go do it. Let God worry about whether or not you are able to accomplish the task He has given you.

Not Even By A Mighty Hand - Admonition 148

Exodus 3:19 But I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not even by a mighty hand. 20 So I will stretch out My hand and strike Egypt with all My wonders which I will do in its midst; and after that he will let you go.

Have you ever started a task that you were pretty confident you would succeed at? You would be able to be successful and accomplish that goal? What if somebody gives you a task? Do you want them to give you a task you can actually complete?

Well, God gives Moses a task and then tells him, But it's not going to work out. God does that with his profit. Sometimes God will send Moses to Pharaoh and he will tell Moses, you tell Pharaoh to let my people go, and then he tells Moses, and Pharaoh won't listen. Pharaoh won't do it, So God, why are you sending me? Because I am going to deliver my people with a strong and mighty hand.

God gave Pharaoh and opportunity, but he already knew Pharaoh wasn't going to give in and Pharaoh would bring his own judgment to bear. Are you willing to hear God today?

That You Are Mindful of Him - Admonition 147

The Psalmist writer once wrote and questioned, What is man that you are mindful of him? Writing to God and asking God, Why do you care so much about this small speck of people on this small speck of a planet in this small galaxy, in this massive universe with all you've created, why do you care about man? And yet in Exodus chapter three, God says, concerning his covenant people, Israel, the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He says, I've seen their sorrows. I know their sorrows. I know their pain, and I have come down to bring them up out of Egypt. God not only cares, God acts on the behalf of his people. So here's the question for you. Are you one of his people? Because his enemies, he destroys, but the humble, he lifts up.

Israel might've thought that as they were in Egypt and they were afflicted by the Egyptians, but God says this: In Exodus, chapter three, God says, I have surely seen the oppression of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters for I know their sorrows. Word for sorrows there is pain. God says, I know their pain. You're a child of God. You have someone who knows your pain. Maybe you're just not remembering to think about him. Think about God in your time of struggle.

Who is God? Do you know who he is? Do you know anything about him? I know one thing about him. God told Moses when Moses asked before he went to Egypt to get God's people out of Egypt, he said, if I go there, they're, they're going to ask who? Who you are--who, who appeared to me? What shall I tell them? And God says, you tell them I am that I am has sent you. God says he is the self-existing One. He is the One who is the first cause uncaused. He is the one who is the originator of all that is. Do you know God? I hope you do today.

Faithful as a Servant - Admonition 144

Have you ever been told -- you go do this job and when you get done, you come right back here. Moses was told that Moses was told when he was 80 years old, the top of Mount Horeb before a burning Bush. You go to Egypt and you get my people out of Egypt, and the Lord told Moses, when you get them out of Egypt, you bring them back here to this mount, to the mountain of God. That mountain was Mount Sinai and Moses would do exactly that. Moses will be called faithful as a servant for he did what God said. How are you living? Are you faithful as a servant of God today?

I Would Love To Stand Before God - Admonition 143

Have you ever thought, I would love to stand before God? I would love to stand in God's presence. It might be a little bit more of an experience than you think it is. In Exodus chapter three, Moses comes near the burning bush and the bush is on fire, but it's not being consumed. And the voice comes to him from the midst of the bush and the Lord speaks to him. He tells him to take off his sandals for the place where he's standing is holy ground and Moses will fall flat and will turn his face away from the voice of the Lord. Why? Because the presence of God is an awesome... And scary place to be. Be careful what you ask for. Someday, you just might get it.

Can good things happen to you that you weren't planning on happening? Well, certainly they can, and in Exodus chapter two we see an example of that. Moses is fleeing Egypt. He comes to a well and here is a well, probably outside of a village, and these five daughters of a man come to water their flock. But other shepherds come and these shepherds by all indication--men--push away, push aside the females to water their own flocks. Moses stands up for these ladies. He stands up for these women and he waters their flock. He does good. And in turn, he meets not only his father in law to be but his wife because he chose to do good. Do good as you have the opportunity today.

Good Influences in Unexpected Places - Admonition 141

In Exodus chapter two we read about Moses, who's grown up in Pharaoh's house, going out to be with his people, the Hebrews, and he ends up defending a Hebrew man who's being persecuted by an Egyptian and kills the Egyptian. Pharaoh will hear about it. Moses will flee. And Moses thinks His people are the Israelites and they are, but he comes to find out that his people are the people of God. And you find the people of God in some of the most interesting places. He goes to Midian, and in Midian he finds a priest, a priest who will become his father in law, a priest who by all indications of the text, is a priest of the most high God. A descendant of Abraham who will help Moses become the leader he needed to be. You might find good influences in places you're not expecting. Keep your eyes open. See them in your life.

Is It All Over? - Admonition 140

Is it all over? Is it all over when someone does us wrong and we don't have the strength to stand up against them? How will we ever survive? How will we ever flourish and grow again? This might have been some of the questions that the Israelites had when the Egyptian started persecuting them afflicting them and giving them struggles that they were barely able to bear. But we read in Exodus chapter one that the more the Egyptians persecuted the Israelites, the faster the Israelites grew, the mightier they grew, the more God blessed them. Here's the point. If you think you're struggling and that you're going to give in and there's no way for God to get you out from under the difficulties you have, maybe you need to spend more time in God's word. Maybe you need to learn what God can do in the midst of affliction.

Does it bother you when people have a position or a situation work where they're endangering you because of their strength? Pharaoh, King of Egypt was afraid of the children of Israel in Exodus chapter one because they were growing mightier and greater than the Egyptians. But it's interesting if you think back to the book of Genesis that we're told concerning Abraham and those who interacted with him, that God would bless those who blessed Abraham and his seed and curse those who cursed Abraham and his seed. Pharaoh had an opportunity instead of being afraid of Israel, he had an opportunity to be blessed by Israel, but he chose wrong. How are you relating to those around you? Are you doing it in view of God's word? Consider God's word for your life today?

Have you ever thought about the kind of gifts God gives? The kind of things that God grants to us to experience? Have you ever gone out on a bright sunshiny day and you just can't help but be filled with the sense that God, has bestowed this, has granted this, for us to experience? Paul says God grants other things for us to experience. Philippians chapter one he says, Verse 29, For you, it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for his sake. Sometimes the things God grants aren't always pleasant to experience, but they are for our benefit. If you're suffering for Christ, hold fast and stay strong.

Have you ever considered this challenging phrase in Philippians one? Paul writes to the church at Philippi, let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ. So much could be said about that phrase. So much could be said about that admonition. Let your conduct, let your life... Let the way you live it be worthy of the gospel of Christ. Gospel is the good news. The fact that Jesus Christ came, lived, died, and rose again for our salvation, sacrificing himself for us to redeem us. Is your conduct worthy of the Gospel of Christ? May our conduct always be worthy of His gospel.

What kind of influence do you have on others? If you're a Christian, I hope it's this kind of influence: the kind of influence where people are better and grow in their faith and knowledge of God and their proximity and their closeness to God because they're around you. Paul says, concerning himself, Philippians 1:24, Nevertheless, to remain in the flesh is more needful for you and being confident of the confident of this. I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy of faith. Paul says, if I stay in the flesh, if I don't leave this life, it's better off for you because you'll progress in your faith and in your joy and relationship to God. What kind of influence are you having in those around you?

A Rock and Hard Place - Admonition 135

21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. 23 For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. 24 Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you.

You've probably heard the phrase, I'm between a rock and a hard place. Sometimes you find yourself in a situation in life where you are truly stuck between two difficult choices, but I imagine for most of us, we wouldn't say that about the situation Paul found himself in. The apostle Paul said, for me to live is Christ and the die is gain, but if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit for my labor, and yet what I shall choose, I cannot tell for I am hard pressed between the two. Having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better, nevertheless in the flesh is more needful for you. Paul said, I'm stuck between two choices that tear me apart. I want to leave this life and be with Christ, but someone, the church still needs me, so I'll stay. Does somebody need you? Are you a benefit to someone spiritually? Let's learn from Paul's example.

All Who Live Godly in Christ Jesus Will Do This - Admonition 134

Passage: Philippians 1:20

Can you practice what you preach? Do you live the way you speak? Do you do the things you tell others they should do? I know one person who did. It was the apostle Paul. He lived in such a way that he exemplified what he actually taught others. He wrote to Timothy and he said that all who live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. And then he suffered persecution. And when he suffered persecution, guess what? He didn't give up. He didn't walk away from Christ. He didn't say, I quit. A matter of fact, he said in Philippians chapter one verse 20--he says, "but with all boldness as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death." Is it true about you that you practice what you preach? I certainly hope so, and if not, I hope you repent and start living what you tell others today.

Philippians 1:12-13 - What is evident to the people around you, about your faith in Christ? For Paul, as he sat in a Roman prison, we read this. In Philippians chapter one verse 12 and 13, "but I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance the Gospel so that it has become evident to the whole palace guard and to all the rest that my chains are in Christ." Paul was chained. Paul was in prison, but Paul said, it has become evident to everyone around me that my chains aren't physical. My chains are to Christ. I am in bondage, enslaved, to my Lord whom I serve. Can that be said about you today or are you serving yourself?

Filled With The Fruits Of Righteousness - Admonition 132

Thanksgiving time might come around any day now and when it does, you might eat a lot of food and if you eat a lot of food, you might become filled. You might become full. You might even become overfilled. In Philippians chapter one, Paul says to the Christians in Philippi, he says, being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God. Let me ask you this, is your life filled with the fruits of righteousness that come by being a Christian, being attached to the vine, which is Jesus Christ - John Chapter five? Are you filled with the fruits of righteousness so that your life brings glory to God? If not, why not? Be filled with Christ today?

The Furtherance of the Gospel - Admonition 131

Have you ever had bad things happen to you and you wonder what good could possibly come from all of this trouble? Paul ended up in prison, thrown in jail, beaten, shipwrecked, taken to another city, into Rome, and then put in jail again and stayed there. But in Philippians chapter one, while in prison, he writes this, "But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the Gospel." For those who preach the Gospel, hard times come, but sometimes we find that the hard times are open doors to preach the truth. Are you looking for open doors to proclaim the Gospel? I hope you preach the Gospel and let God worry about the troubles.

How's your love? How's your love for Christians and your love for God? Philippians chapter one verse nine, Paul says, and this I pray that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment. The word "abound" here is kind of a word-picture for a river that's overflowing it's banks, it's abounding. It's flowing more and more and more. How's your love for God and your love for Christians? Is it abounding? Is it abounding because of your knowledge of God's word and your knowledge of what God has done for you and your discernment about what is right and wrong? I hope so. May Your love be abounding today and for the rest of your life.

Paul and Timothy, bondservants of Jesus Christ, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the bishops and deacons...

Have you ever thought about the roles and positions in the church where you attend? Are they what the New Testament describes? In the New Testament church, there were primarily three roles. You read about them in Philippians chapter one in Philippians chapter one verse one, Paul and Timothy are called bondservants of Jesus Christ and they're writing to the church and here are the three positions they described to all the saints in Christ Jesus, the common Christians, those called out of the world and into the Gospel, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi with the overseers and deacons. These servants of God serve in the position of overseers and special servants or deacons. These are the roles that the New Testament Church had. Are those the roles that your church has?

What Is Fellowship in the Gospel? - Admonition 126

Php 1:3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, 4 always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, 5 for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now,

What Is Fellowship in the Gospel? We should always participate with one another in certain things. We should be involved with one another and work together, especially if we're Christians. And one of the things Christians should be involved with one another in is the Gospel. Philippians 1:5 says, for Your Fellowship in the Gospel, that word fellowship means joint participation. He says, your fellowship in the Gospel from the first day until now, this church had participated with Paul in the Gospel. They had supported him financially. They had worked with him and they had helped him in preaching the Gospel. Why? Because it's the good news. It's the good news that will save your soul. Romans 1:16.

How do you feel about Christians? I know how Paul felt about Christians. The Apostle Paul said this to the church at Philippi. Paul said, every time I think about you, it is a joy for me to pray to God on your behalf. This was because of the kind of people the church at Philippi was made up of. This is because they were the kind of people who participated in God's work and loved the Lord. How do you feel about Christians? I hope you feel the way Paul did.

Can a man be rich and righteous? - Admonition 124

Jesus said it was harder for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God than for a camel to go through the eye of a needle. Is it possible then to even be a righteous person and rich at the same time? The Bible tells us “Yes,” but the character of the individual will determine their destiny.

Also, his possessions were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very large household, so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the East. Job 1:3

There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil. Job 1:1

Can a man be rich and righteous? The answer to that is in Scripture. Some might quote Jesus as saying that it's harder for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God then for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, but there's another passage to consider as well. Job Chapter one verse three concerning Job, we read, his possessions were 7,000 sheep, 3000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, 500 female donkeys, and a very large household so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the east. Sounds like a rich man... but what was his character like? Verse One says he was blameless and upright, one who feared God and shunned evil. This man was righteous because his faith in God and his obedience to God came before his riches and was there long after his riches were gone.

God says the correct response to sin and evil is to shun it, to turn away from it.

Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?” Job 1:8

How do you feel about sin? How should you feel about sin? I know one person that God said felt the right way about sin. In Job chapter one we read in the Lord said to Satan, from where do you come? So Satan answered the Lord and said, from going to and fro on the earth and from walking back and forth on it. Then the Lord said to Satan, have you considered my servant Job? That there is none like him on the Earth, a blameless and upright man. One Who fears God and Shuns Evil. The word shun there means to turn away from. God says the correct response to sin, the correct response to evil, is to turn away from it. Do you feel about sin the way God does? I hope today you're turning from evil

Do Not Be Afraid, Only Believe – Admonition 118

As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, Do not be afraid; only believe.”

Transcript:

In Mark chapter 5 Jairus has come to Jesus. He’s a ruler of the synagogue. He’s come to Jesus and he says, my daughter is, is near to death. You can heal her if, if you’ll come to my house. So Jesus does. But as they’re going, word comes that Jairus’ daughter is already dead. And Jesus says to the ruler of the synagogue, verse 36 do not be afraid. Only believe. Jesus wants this man who had enough belief in him and his abilities to come and ask him to heal his daughter, to still believe, even though it was past the point that this man thought there was any hope. You’re not without hope. If you will hear the word of God and obey it. You don’t have to be afraid. You can believe.

You would be surprised what's in the Bible. I know individuals in the first century who were. Notice what they said concerning Jesus and when the Sabbath had come, Mark Chapter six verse two, "He began to teach in the synagogue, and many hearing him were astonished saying, where did this man get these things?" They heard what Jesus said, and they were astonished, but everything Jesus taught them by all indications of scripture came from the word of God from the Scriptures, but He knew it far better than they did. You'd be astonished what's in the Bible. So I encourage you, pick up your Bible and start studying. You might be astonished what you find.
