*A Dog’s Devotion* is a podcast dedicated to those who love and care for senior dogs — the companions who give us their whole lives, even though their time with us is far too short.

As our dogs age, the journey changes. It becomes more complex, more emotional, and at times, incredibly difficult. This podcast is here to walk that path with you. We talk about everything that matters in your dog’s later years — from proper nutrition and asking the right questions at the vet, to recognizing quality of life, making the heartbreaking decision of euthanasia, and navigating the grief that follows the loss of a beloved companion.

Born from my own experience with my rescue dog Max, *A Dog’s Devotion* is a place for honest conversations, expert insight, and shared understanding. Because loving a senior dog is one of the greatest gifts — and one of the hardest goodbyes.

If you have questions, fears, or simply want to feel less alone on this journey, this podcast is for you.

Welcome to A Dog's Devotion, the podcast for all dog lovers. Here we talk about dogs changing lives, rescue dog stories, dog love, the human animal bond, and life with dogs. We as dog lovers know that our lives are so enriched when we have a loving dog by our side. To share adventures, love and just the silence of being together.

On today's episode, we are talking about the importance of dog rescue. The horrific stories that come with it break my heart, but they have to be told so we can put an end to it.

The Anna Shelter is trying to do just that. This episode of A Dog’s Devotion shines a light on the critical, life-saving work being done by rescues like The Anna Shelter, where abandoned, neglected, and abused animals are given a second chance at the love they’ve always deserved.

Behind their doors are stories that are difficult to hear—but impossible to ignore. Across this country, countless animals suffer in silence, victims of cruelty, neglect, and unimaginable abuse. And yet, in places like The Anna Shelter, compassion rises to meet that darkness. Here, broken spirits are rebuilt, trust is restored, and love becomes the bridge between pain and healing.

This conversation is not just about awareness—it’s about action. Because these animals cannot speak for themselves… but we can.

Please listen, share, like, and comment.
Together, we can be their voice.

There is more animal abuse in this country than ever before, we must do what we can to stop it. Thanks to Ruth from The Anna Shelter for the work she is doing. Some of what you will hear will tear your heart into pieces, it did mine - so just be aware we cover some horrific cases of animal abuse.

Thanks for listening, as always. Hopefully one day we won't have to cover stories like Mimi's.

xoxo
Carla, Max & Smokey

Description:
This week on A Dog’s Devotion, we honor the incredible life of Kaiserin — a beloved tripawd who, after losing a limb to cancer, became a champion trick dog and a gifted painter.

Though Kaiserin has since passed, her spirit lives on through her sister, Schultz and Wilhelmina, who continue to paint and carry on her beautiful legacy. Together with their mom, Natasha — a passionate dog trainer — their art is still raising money to help other dogs and cats battling cancer.

This episode is a powerful reminder of the resilience dogs show us, the unconditional love they give, and how even after they’re gone, their impact never fades. Kaiserin’s story is one of strength, inspiration, and a legacy that continues to change lives.

Life with a three-legged dog isn’t just possible… it’s extraordinary. And love like this never ends.

🎙️ Episode out now on all platforms — a must-listen.

You can follow us on Instagram @adogsdevotion1 and Natasha and her dogs @thelifeofschultz.
This week on A Dog’s Devotion, we shine a light on the extraordinary work of Three Little Pitties Rescue — a rescue saving all dog breeds and cats, and proving every single life matters.

Dog rescue in our country has never been more important. Shelters are overwhelmed. The need is constant. And yet… thousands of people show up anyway. Transport drivers. Foster families. Behavior teams. Volunteers. Donors. Quiet heroes working behind the scenes.

Today, I speak with one of the incredible women making it happen — one of the boots-on-the-ground voices in a movement fueled by compassion and action. From Texas to the Pacific Northwest, the East Coast, and the Midwest, they are moving animals from heartbreak to hope.

Please follow their lifesaving work and daily updates on Instagram: @threelittlepittiesrescue

And thank you — to you. A Dog’s Devotion has just been named one of the Top 39 Dog Podcasts in the Country. That honor belongs to this community. We will continue to amplify the people — just like you and me — who refuse to look away and are determined to save a dog’s life.
And you can follow on with me @adogsdevotion1, where l continue to share my love and grief of loosing Max, to learning to love another little soul who was so badly in need of a loving home.

Dogs are the best, and l prefer them over most people.
God bless every single one of them. xoxo

This week on A Dog’s Devotion, I sit down with the founder of Flying Fur Animal Rescue — a U.S. Army veteran whose life of service didn’t end when he left the military. Instead, it took flight in a whole new way.

He shares how Flying Fur Animal Rescue began, what keeps him going through the heartbreak, and why this work is so important — now more than ever. As a pilot, rescuer, and deeply compassionate human, he flies animals out of desperate situations, giving them a second chance at life when they need it most. His dedication, courage, and commitment to service make him the true definition of a hero.

This episode is also a gentle reminder — inspired by my beloved Max — that every act of kindness matters. Whether you’re rescuing animals, fostering, donating, volunteering, sharing stories, or simply loving a dog deeply, the work we all do — no matter how big or small — truly makes a difference.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for listening and for being part of this compassionate, dog-loving community.
Welcome back! A Dog's Devotion is kicking off a brand new year. We hope you enjoyed your holidays, and spent some time relaxing and enjoying the company of loved ones.
We took some time off, and are now refreshed and ready for the new adventures that 2026 will bring. We also welcomed a new member of our family, Smokey. A 7 year old Yorkie who we rescued from Adopt & Save a Life Rescue in Florida. He will never replace the love l had for Max, that will never go away. However, the sound of little paws running around, the dog cuddles and kisses are so nice to have again.

This is the first episode of 2026, and it is a special one. For any of you who have loved a senior dog, adopted a senior dog, and then ultimately had to say goodbye to a senior this one will touch your heart.

In this very special first episode of 2026, A Dog’s Devotion explores the extraordinary bond we share with older dogs — a love that is quiet, patient, and profoundly unconditional. Inspired by the beautiful book Unconditional: Older Dogs, Deeper Love, this episode is a heartfelt reminder that senior dogs don’t come with less love — they come with more.

Older dogs teach us how to slow down, how to be present, and how to love without expectations. Their eyes hold stories, their hearts hold gratitude, and their devotion runs deeper than words can express.

This episode is for anyone who has loved a senior dog, lost one, or is considering opening their heart to an older pup who still has so much love to give. It’s about choosing compassion, honoring experience, and recognizing that sometimes the most meaningful love arrives when we least expect it.

Thank you to my guest Jane Sobel Klonsky for joining me, talking about your book and sharing your love of senior dogs.

xo Carla

🐾💛

This week on A Dog’s Devotion, I sit down with Shannon Keith, the powerhouse founder of the Beagle Freedom Project — an organization that has changed the future for thousands of animals used in research labs around the world.

Shannon’s mission is both courageous and urgent: rescuing beagles and other animals from laboratory testing, fighting the systems that keep them hidden, and giving these dogs the chance to experience love, sunshine, and freedom for the first time in their lives.

In this emotional and eye-opening conversation, Shannon shares:
🐾 Why beagles are the number one breed used in testing (and what most people don’t know).
🐾 How Beagle Freedom Project rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes dogs who’ve never stepped outside a cage.
🐾 The incredible transformations these animals undergo once they finally experience compassion.
🐾 The legal battles, the victories, and the ongoing fight to change outdated laws.
🐾 What we can all do to help end animal testing — and support the dogs still waiting for freedom.

This is a powerful episode that will move you, challenge you, and remind you why the human-animal bond is worth fighting for.
If you love dogs, care about justice, or want to learn what’s really happening behind closed doors, you won’t want to miss this conversation.

As always thank you for listening, this episode will really open your eyes to the amount of dog testing that is still going on across the US, right in our own backyard, in places you would never guess. It is so sad to see these poor helpless animals suffer, and l am hoping this episode will shine a light on this so more people can get involved to stop it.

Thank you,

Carla

Welcome to A Dog’s Devotion.

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month — and this episode is one that means so much to me personally. Because my own rescue, Max, came from a shelter in Mexico. He wasn’t just a dog I adopted — he was the dog who rescued me right back.

In this episode, I share my story — how I first learned about Max, the long journey that brought him from the streets of Mexico to a new life in Calgary, and the incredible woman who made it all possible. You’ll meet Jaimee, his amazing foster mom from Pawsitive Match Rescue. She’s the one who picked him up, cared for him, and gave him the chance to start again.

When I met Max, something changed in me forever. It was instant — like he had been waiting for me all along. And now, years later, I can tell you with all my heart — adopting a rescue dog doesn’t just change their life… it changes yours in ways you could never imagine.

Across North America, shelters are overflowing. So many dogs — young and old, big and small — are waiting for someone to give them a second chance. This month, and every month, I hope this episode inspires you to visit your local shelter, consider fostering, or even adopt a dog who needs you.

Because every rescue has a story. And sometimes, that story becomes the most beautiful chapter of your life. Along with my rescue of Max, was of course the harsh reality of dealing with his passing. A grieving process that is very real. Dog loss is real, and heart breaking. But time will heal, and one day l will reach out to Pawsitive Match again, and find my next Max.

This week on A Dog’s Devotion, we explore The Kaleidoscope Desert, a sanctuary just outside Joshua Tree that brings together rescued animals and artistic expression in the most extraordinary way. Here, every creature — from dogs to zebras — is free to roam and be seen, and every visitor leaves transformed. It’s a place of color, creativity, and connection — where art heals, animals thrive, and hearts open wide. The desert is a magical place, and when you add art, and animals to the mix, amazing transformations happen.
Join Carla Bosacki as she speaks to owner of how she came to own 5 acres and live out her life passion of saving animals. For people who are suffering from dog loss and the grief that follows, this is a very special place that helps heal the soul.

Eddie’s spark lit a fire that continues to burn in his honour. After his passing, Lisa founded Eddie’s Ranch—a sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and loving senior and disabled dogs, giving them the care and dignity they deserve.

This is a story of devotion, legacy, and second chances.
Today, I’m thrilled to welcome Holly, an animal welfare scientist whose work with the Canine Science Collaboratory is both groundbreaking and heartwarming. Her research focuses on something that’s at the very core of this podcast—the positive emotional states of dogs, and how we, as humans, interpret their happiness. Holly’s work isn’t just about science—it’s about deepening our connection with our dogs, learning to see and honor the emotions they experience every day.
Holly’s Legacy – Finding Light After Loss

When Marianne lost her beloved Yorkie, Holly, the grief was overwhelming. Holly wasn’t just a dog — she was family, a constant companion, and a source of unconditional love. Her sudden passing left a deep void, and for a time, Marianne struggled to find her footing in a world without her tiny best friend.

But out of heartbreak came unexpected gifts: new friendships, a renewed sense of purpose, and a deeper understanding of just how powerful a dog’s devotion can be — even after they’re gone. In this emotional and uplifting episode, Marianne shares her journey through grief, the signs that Holly was still with her in spirit, and the beautiful ways her memory lives on.

As someone who’s experienced a similar loss with my own dog Max, I connected deeply with Marianne’s story. This episode is a gentle reminder that even in our darkest moments, love has the power to guide us forward.

If you’ve ever loved and lost a dog, this episode is for you.

In this episode, we welcome Tom Turcich—an extraordinary soul who spent seven years walking across six continents and through thirty-eight countries. But he didn’t do it alone. Along the way, Tom met a special companion—a stray pup he adopted during his journey and named Savannah, after the place where their paths first crossed. What began as a personal quest for meaning after the loss of a dear friend became something much deeper—a journey of healing, discovery, and the profound bond between a man and his dog. This is not just a story of endurance—it’s a story of love, loyalty, and the quiet, powerful ways a dog can walk us home.
